BRAWL FOR ALL: UWE readies for biggest event of the year, Showdown 14

BRAWL FOR ALL: UWE readies for biggest event of the year, Showdown 14

Posted: Sep 14th 2024 By: Jake Sermershein

In just a week’s time, the world of United Wrestling Entertainment could be changed forever.

On Saturday, Sept. 21, UWE puts on its biggest event of the year: Showdown 14. With a variety of matches on the card, all eyes go to the main event between Brad Eubanks — aka the Man They Call Fuel — and Colt Killbane, who are battling for the fate of the company.

Eubanks earned the shot to challenge Killbane for the UWE World Championship after outlasting 29 other wrestlers in the Sooner Stampede over-the-top rope battle royal. Even though Eubanks earned the chance to fight for the title in the main event, Killbane added a special stipulation: If Eubanks lost, the founder would give up ownership of the company, putting Killbane in full control.

“I didn’t pick the stipulation; Killbane made me put the ownership on the line against him. They could just fire whoever they wanted,” Eubanks said. “They could change the name or even move UWE out of Tahlequah. If this is the end game for UWE, you better believe I am going down fighting.”

Heading into the Sooner Stampede, Eubanks was fresh off a big loss to Killbane. At UWE’s previous event, the pair faced off, with Killbane winning in dominant fashion. Needing just three moves — all spears, a wrestling move like a football tackle — and 42 seconds, Eubanks was soundly beaten by the champion.

Killbane didn’t want to give Eubanks the chance to challenge for the title, although Eubanks won the right at Sooner Stampede.

Getting into the Sooner Stampede wasn’t Eubanks’ doing, though. The Man They Call Fuel didn’t enter himself into the event. A mystery member of the roster put Eubanks’ name into the pot, surprising him when his music played at the event.

“[Brad] said, ‘I destroyed his confidence, didn’t leave anything left on the table and he didn’t want to be a professional wrestler anymore,’” Killbane said. “If that was true, why did he walk out in the Sooner Stampede and fight off 29 other men? Because of his ego. They want to bring me down – not just in Oklahoma, but everywhere I have been.”

During the contract signing for the championship, a skirmish broke out. Killbane’s faction, The Wave, started a fight with Eubanks. Soon other wrestlers poured out from the locker room to even the numbers, leading to a full-on brawl. After getting beat to start the brawl, Eubanks got the upper hand with a diving splash onto the roster.

Along with Eubanks’ main event, Showdown 14 has a stacked card with championship defenses, grudge matches and more. After breaking the attendance record at last year’s event, UWE is hoping to do the same with the 14th edition of the event.

“Showdown 14 is going to be the biggest of all time,” Eubanks said. “Last year’s event broke our attendance record of over 500 attended, hopefully, we can achieve that this year. It was a fundraiser in its first year and has grown into a community event. UWE is no longer a professional wrestling event; it is a community event that happens to have pro wrestling in it.”

Along with the main event, Showdown 14 has five other matches announced. Apex Champion Seth Daniels will take on Warhawk in a grudge match against former teammates. Tag Team Champions Black Flag Rising will defend their titles against The Party Bird Crew. After that, King Riker will battle Trench Blythe. Calhoun Will is to challenge Marlboro Slim in a match where the loser has to shave his back. The final announced match pits Shotgun Webber against the Wave of the Future tag team. If Weber cannot find a partner, he has to battle the duo aloe.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.
