The Most Awesome Summer Commences!

The Most Awesome Summer Commences!

Posted: Jun 18th 2024 By: Michael Hunt

Always read the fine print.

That's the big lesson to be learned for WAH. After losing their original home at Living Hope Church in Tulsa, WAH found a new home in Zion Community Church near Sand Springs. That new venue came about primarily due to a connection to Robbie Awesome, a former Oklahoma wrestler and manager. He had moved on to other things in his life, but wrestling always held a big place in his heart and when he heard that WAH needed a building to run their events, he was quick to procure a spot for them.

On the surface it seemed very benevolent. And because of this, WAH owner Pastor Brent spoke with the WAH Board of Directors and secured an employment contract for Awesome. He would be co-Commissioner of WAH alongside C. M. Burnham, the former ring announcer for WAH who had agreed to step in due to the resignation of former commissioner Toney Marcus Jones.

For any fan who knew Robbie Awesome, none of this seemed particularly characteristic of him. Robbie had always been a rather self-centered individual. He had a brilliant mind for managing other talent and was very gifted when speaking to a crowd, but acts of kindness and consideration were never Robbie's forte. Nonetheless, there was a large roster and while Burnham had plenty of experience as commissioner in other wrestling companies, he was glad to accept the help.

Until he realised that it was not help Robbie was providing. Because, like any trickster-devil in morality stories, Robbie went to great lengths to disguise his intentions at first, but they slowly began to emerge. And when Burnham recognised the problems and tried to have Awesome removed, Robbie reminded everyone that WAH wouldn't have a venue if it was not for him. So if he went, the venue went with him and WAH was right back to where it was in September 2023: piled in a Storage unit with no clear possibility of starting back up.

Awesome and Burnham almost came to blows at one event as Robbie got under Burnham's skin so much that Burnham stripped off his coat and was seemingly prepared to go at it physically. This brought WAH Board of Directors member Mike Iles out to mediate a quick resolution between the two. Iles recognised that Robbie loved to be a disruptive influence on the matches, undoing many of the things that Burnham put in place, so Iles installed a stipulation that neither Awesome nor Burnham could undo stipulations to matches. They could only ADD to them. This seemed to make things better, at least temporarily. But Robbie made no secret who he was supporting in WAH. As always, he focused heavily on proven talent, including former WAH Champion Romeo Reese and WAH Living Hope Champion Jean-Claude. Both these men were aligned with each other, but now having the co-commissioner on their side made things seemingly better for both.

June 8th saw the WAH event start as usual with Pastor Brent greeting the crowd, leading the crowd in the National Anthem and prayer and then handing the microphone over to Burnham, who ran down each of the matches. And after each one, Robbie Awesome interjected his opinion about that match and who he thought the winner would be. As each match went by, Burnham became more and more annoyed until finally Robbie went way past the line in his comments about the Romeo Reese/Eddie LeVaughn match for the WAH Title. And Burnham had had enough. He told Awesome that he knew he wasn't allowed to fight Robbie and that in all likelihood, if he did, he would probably lose because he wasn't a trained wrestler. But he felt confident that he could out-think Robbie, so a challenge was issued and accepted. Both men pulled out their phone, went to the WAH roster page and sent 4 men's name to the media coordinator. An impromptu 4-on-4 match was held and whichever man's team won would have FULL control of WAH for the next 2 events.

Awesome's team was impressive: Power in the form of Anthony Wild, experience in the form of Dark Karnage and UWE Tag Team Champion Anarchy [2nd] and unpredictability in the form of El Gallardo, who had not been seen in a WAH ring since November. Burnham's team was impressive as well: High Flying from Floyd Maystorm, Perseverance in the form of The Super Star and Heavy on enthusiasm and unpredictability in the form of Miles Bane and The Lunchdor. All 8 men got their moment to shine and it appeared that Burnham's team was on the verge of victory when Robbie Awesome grabbed the baseball bat that Dark Karnage brought to the ring and hopped up on the apron. Burnham jumped up to grab the baseball bat out of Awesome's hand and a tug of war erupted, bringing referee Ben Kelly over to deal with them. This allowed Anthony Wild to deliver a low blow to the Super Star and leave him incapacitated for the pin. After Awesome relenquished the bat, Burnham could only look on as his team fell to defeat as the 1-2-3 was counted.

WAH was now in the hands of Robbie Awesome. And the Awesome Takeover began in earnest. The first thing Robbie did was to make Burnham the ring announcer for the night, so that he could be forced to sit and watch what Robbie was going to do and know there was nothing he could do about it. Next he made the main event an Anything Goes match (Though this would backfire on him as Eddie LeVaughn would capture the WAH Title from Romeo Reese). And right before the Triple Threat Match for the WAH Living Hope Title, he told Dan Webber that if he did not win the match, he would be fired from WAH. Jean-Claude retained and Webber found himself forced to leave the company where his career had begun.

And that was just one event's affairs. Robbie now sits poised to reign over WAH alone at both the June 22nd and July 13th events. The level of narcissism that Robbie showed on June 8th will certainly explode with no one to hold him back. Because, as Robbie would say himself, "You can't spell 'Awesome' without 'Me'" And that's just who Robbie thinks this whole summer is about.
