How Much Longer Can The Prince Rule The Roost?
Posted: May 30th 2024 By: Michael Hunt
For almost 10 months, WAH Champion Romeo Reese has stood atop the WAH mountain. And he has looked down and found that he does not like what he sees.
Challenger after challenger has come to him to try to dethrone him. And all have failed. But since the beginning of 2024, a new challenge has presented itself to Reese. One that won't back down. One that keeps coming back because he believes it is time for a new ruler.
That challenger is WFC Tag Team Champion Eddie LeVaughn.
LeVaughn has always considered WAH his home. It's where he got his start. And in his time there he has won the WAH Living Hope Title and the WAH Tag Team Title with Dove Puro. But he has never climbed the biggest mountain there is.
LeVaughn hopes to change that come June 8th.
The issues between LeVaughn and Reese began when Reese's cohort, Jean-Claude, beat LeVaughn for the Living Hope Title on February 10, 2024. Instead of doing what might have been expected and demanding a rematch for that belt, LeVaughn decided to try and level up, challenging Romeo Reese for the WAH Title. And he won that match....by countout. So the belt did not change hands. 3 weeks later, on March 23rd, Reese and LeVaughn faced off again and this time Reese won...by Countout. So still no solid decision. On May 11th, LeVaughn tagged with Bobby Dylan against Reese and Jean-Claude and LeVaughn saw victory there. But that was in a tag team match, so again, the belt could not change hands. Nonetheless, with both men having a win of dubious distinction, everyone including them wanted to see a final resolution to their issue.
May 25th saw the WAH event begin with a contract signing between LeVaughn and Reese. Several other key players, including Jean-Claude, Dan Webber, WAH & MajCW Tag Team Champion Tank Bryson, and WAH Spotlight & BPW Lion Heart Champion Trench Blythe all made their way into the ring as well, most of them demanding to know who their #1 contenders would be for Night of Champions on June 8th. After getting everyone but the concerned parties out of the ring, WAH Co-Commissioner C. M. Burnham was able to facilitate a peaceful signing of the contract between Reese and LeVaughn, a rarity in wrestling. But he put too much stock in his belief that things would continue to be peaceful as he demanded that both men shake hands before leaving the ring. LeVaughn was quite willing. Reese was more reluctant (as he had been reluctant to cooperate all night) and just when it looked like he might adhere to wrestling's honourable code, Jean-Claude attacked LeVaughn from behind. A brief beatdown occurred before WAH Co-Commissioner (and Reese & Jean-Claude associate) Robbie Awesome saw fit to move the champions to the back. But the night had just begun for the top two men in WAH.
Later that night, Jean-Claude came out and announced the annual French Open, where he announced that any wrestler in the back could come out and challenge him for the Living Hope Title. While both Dan Webber and Bobby Dylan had declared their interest in the belt, forcing C. M. Burnham & Robbie Awesome to make #1 contenders match between them, neither of them took advantage of this opportunity. Instead, Corporal Punishment made his return to WAH. The Corporal looked great and ready to go as he stepped into the ring against Jean-Claude and a battle between France and the USA quickly ensued. On several occasions, Punishment looked very close to adding the Living Hope Title to his accomplishments, finally panicking Romeo Reese so much that he entered the ring and attacked Punishment, causing a DQ. For a moment, it was two-on-one until another surprise return happened in the form of former WAH Champion and current NWA star Rush Freeman. After Freeman and Punishment cleared the ring of the troublemaking champions, Burnham announced that since Reese and Jean-Claude wanted to function as a team, he would put them in the main event AS a team against the returning WAH stars.
Before that main event could happen, though, Jean-Claude took great interest in the #1 contenders match between Dan Webber and Bobby Dylan. Both men had earned Living Hope Title opportunities before, but those had been denied due to the manipulations of Robbie Awesome. And both men were fan favourites so the match saw the fans conflicted as to who they wanted to see win. There were multiple opportunities for either man to gain the victory with Webber coming EXTREMELY close after a spinebuster followed by a superkick, only to see Dylan grab the bottom rope in the pin to cause the break. But as this match looked to be drawing to a conclusion, Reese ran into the ring and attacked BOTH men. And then Robbie Awesome grabbed the microphone announcing that he was "Extremely sorry", but that since there was no winner, there was no #1 contender and therefore Jean-Claude had the night off at Night of Champions. C. M. Burnham was NOT happy with this and came out, announcing that there was a better choice and the crowd was thinking right along with him as cries of "Triple Threat" began to emerge from various members of the fanbase. So Burnham gave the fans what they wanted and announced a Triple Threat Match for the WAH Living Hope Title as Jean-Claude would defend against BOTH Dan Webber and Bobby Dylan.
So it came time for the main event and the champions knew they were in for a huge fight. After isolating Corporal Punishment for quite a while, he was able to make the tag to Rush Freeman and Freeman came very close to pinning the WAH Champion after a brief flurry. That brought Jean-Claude over to his opponent's corner outside the ring as he yanked Punishment down. And while referee Mike 2 tried to get those men back to their corners, Romeo Reese kicked Rush Freeman directly in the groin, rendering him unable to defend himself. Since the referee didn't see it, he saw no need to question things when he turned his attention back to the ring and counted the pinfall by the champion. Once again, dirty deeds had prevailed as Romeo Reese and Jean-Claude got their hands raised.
But the night was not over as an irate Eddie LeVaughn charged to the ring to take some revenge out on both the champions. He attacked Romeo Reese from behind and the battle was on. After fighting off both men on the outside of the ring, LeVaughn threw Reese into the ring, picked him up in a fireman's carry and seemingly planned to put him down with an F5. But Reese fought out of that, got off of LeVaughn's shoulders and the two men began a brawl that would have made hockey fans everywhere proud. This brought C. M. Burnham out motioning for help from the back to break the two apart, but it didn't matter if he could part them because eventually one broke free from the wrestlers restraining him and attacked the other. The two men battled inside the ring AND outside the ring until Burnham was FINALLY able to get them to calm down. Robbie Awesome escorted Reese and his contingent to the back while Burnham stayed with Eddie until it seemed like everything was clear.
With this much emotion boiling over, the championship match on June 8th is certain to be one that will never be forgotten. But while Reese can rest, train and prepare strategy in the ensuing time, LeVaughn does not have it as easy as he and Mr. Nasty will have to defend the WFC Tag Team Titles on June 1st. And LeVaughn has also stated his interest in entering the Freedom Rings Rumble on June 2nd. The potential for injury in either of these matches has to loom in the back of LeVaughn's mind. And if something does happen to prevent LeVaughn from competing, or if somehow Reese denies yet another challenge to his throne, the reign of The Prince might just be eternal.
