Colibri Stands Alone Against "La M"...Or Does He?

Posted: Jan 3rd 2008 By: CMBurnham

Since invading ComPro at the end of November, 2007, Ray Martinez and Jesus Rodriguez, who collectively refer to themselves as "La M", have put a target on the back of El Super Colibri. And for the past month, Colibri has done his best to ignore and resist the advances of La M and their influence. During this time, Colibri has lost several key matches and seems to be all alone in this vendetta. But could it be that someone else has also been a target of La M? And if these individuals teamed up, might it be better for them in the long run?

For anyone attending ComPro shows, it's been clear since December 1st that Colibri was the target of La M's aggression. Martinez offered Colibri a slot in the group, which Colibri refused. And true to the organised crime background that Martinez likes to emulate, he and Rodriguez then began a war of terror on the highflying rookie. After Colibri defeated Shane Morbid to become the #1 contender to the ComPro Oklahoma X Division Title, with a little unasked for help from Martinez and his Spanish-English dictionary, Ray told Colibri that he didn't need the "white fans" and their cheers to make him special. They didn't care about him anyway. Colibri refused the offer to join La M and was double teamed for his efforts, culminating in Martinez promising that Colibri would soon be part of the group.

Things were no better the next week. Although Colibri gained a victory of ComPro Oklahoma X Division Champion Bernard Funk, again Martinez was a factor, this time with a tire iron. He told Colibri that this was what it took and suggested that the high-flyer didn't want to be another "whitewashed Uncle Tom like (FCW Tag Team Champion) Romero Contreras". He told Colibri this was his last chance to join willingly and next time, lightning would strike Colibri's back.

Colibri believed that he could overcome anything placed in front of him and walked into the 3rd Night of Champions prepared to capitalise on his opportunity and win his first title. With the momentum of a non-title victory going into this match, Colibri was confident and it looked like things might work out for him. But once again, La M made their appearance and while Jesus distracted the referee, Ray hit Colibri with the tire iron, allowing Funk (who saw none of this) to get the pin. Martinez then stood over Colibri after the match and told him that next time, it wouldn't be just a title that they cost Colibri.

And it only continued to get worse as after Christmas break, La M interfered in the match between Colibri and FCW Champion The Canadian Red Devil. Like Funk before him, the Devil was unaware of what happened when Martinez hit Colibri with the tire iron. And Ray made it very clear to Colibri and the audience that the rookie would not win another match until he joined La M.

So it appears that the 2-on-1 focus is paying off for the Mexican bullies and they will do whatever they can to Colibri without him having any help. But while all the focus seems to be on Colibri, no one seems to have noticed that another player could be prepared to come to the rookie's defence. Back at the beginning of the month, Rodriguez's first single's match in ComPro was against Tim Rockwell. That match went Rodriguez's way, thanks in part to the application of the Spanish-English dictionary. 2 weeks later, Rockwell and Rodriguez faced off again, this time with Rockwell getting the win via DQ when Ray entered the ring to interfere. And then 2 weeks after that, Rodriguez and Rockwell fought to a double count-out, with Rockwell notably knocking Martinez on his posterior just before the decision was rendered, much to the fans' delight.

Perhaps Colibri and Rockwell need to have a little talk with each other and form an alliance against La M. Recently Martinez has strongly hinted that there is another member of his faction on their way to ComPro. This might just be a ruse on Martinez's part, but Rockwell and Colibri shouldn't approach the situation with that mentality. Working together seems to be the one guaranteed way to combat the bully tactics of the Mexicans. If nothing else, an alliance could provide incentive to the other members of ComPro to buddy up and prepare for when La M turns their sites on them.
