Chavo Guerrero Jr. recounts telling Zac Efron how he would prepare him for in-ring scenes in The Iron Claw movie

Guerrero Jr. praised Efron for his dedication to bulking up for the role.

A24’s The Iron Claw movie is hitting theaters on December 22nd. The Iron Claw is a Von Erich family biopic and playing the role of Kevin Von Erich is Emmy-award winning actor Zac Efron.

When it comes to the in-ring portion of filming, Efron worked with Chavo Guerrero Jr. Chavo guest appeared on René Duprée’s Café De René livestream and spoke about his interactions with Efron.

He recounted explaining to Efron how he would help prepare him for the in-ring scenes. Guerrero Jr. then talked about Efron bulking up for the role and said he hopes Efron gets the recognition for that.

So the new movie coming out, Iron Claw, the story of the Von Erichs movie, that’s coming out soon. But I’m teaching Zac Efron and not to drop names but I’m teaching him. I’m going, ‘God, okay, what I’m teaching you is kind of like what we do in wrestling but it’s not. I’m not teaching you to wrestle WrestleMania. I’m teaching you to look like you know how to wrestle in a scene. Two different things.’ I said, ‘But at the same time, what I teach at a seminar, like pro wrestlers, doesn’t work here.’ So it’s two different things. Both similar but they’re both very different. You can’t just apply one to the other.

I hope he gets that recognition because he did a phenomenal job acting. He’s so good. But he put all of this weight on for that. He doesn’t walk around like that. He’s always in great shape, don’t get me wrong because that’s just his lifestyle but man, this guy never missed. I mean, in between wrestling practices, he’d go down and eat his quick little meal and drink his shake and stuff. So, he just never stopped. I saw him transform bigger and bigger and bigger, tighter stuff. Man, he was just really stage ready so anybody who does that, you know how hard that is, how hard to keep that is, you know? So, I really hope that he gets that recognition he deserves. He’s awesome, and a great guy.
