At the end of 2022, Trevor Murdoch recalled that on one occasion Triple H asked him and Lance Cade to protect him from a possible attack from Road Dogg and Billy Gunn, who were not working for WWE at the time, but were in the same city where WWE was having a house show and Dogg & Gunn were in town for an autograph session. More recently, the now NWA wrestler continues to pull the same thread in an interview on "Under the Ring" with Phil Sturm. Murdoch said “Lance and I earned a reputation in WWE: ‘If you mess with one, you mess with the other. You better leave them both alone’. There was a time, back in the day, when Triple H wasn't on great terms with Billy Gunn and Road Dogg. We were doing a live event and Billy and Road Dogg were doing an autograph session nearby. They had sent a message that when Hunter came out for his match, they were going to get in the ring and give him a beating. Hunter comes up to us. We didn't know about this. Hunter comes up and tells us the whole story. 'I want you guys to see my fight.' We were young, ‘Of course we’ll watch your fight’. He told us the story and we said, ‘Sure.’ 'As soon as you see those guys jump the fence, go out there and leave them in ridiculousness.' "We watched the fight, they didn't show up, nothing happened, but it really made it clear to us that they knew we'd come in and do the job when we were told."

He has mental health issues. He can help any organization, Mauro. Mauro Ranallo is that good. He’s not a great traveler and that’s not knocking Mauro. It’s just he has issues that are more important than who’s doing 'Dynamite' next week.”

The documentary is described as “is a feature documentary based on the wildly colourful, outrageously animated, pile-driving phenomenon of the Singh wrestling dynasty. Follow us as we wind back the clock to the infectiously fun 1970s era wrestling and the emergence of a Punjabi immigrant now known as the legendary Gama Singh of Stampede Wrestling, and witness the continuation of that professional wrestling lineage in current day with Gama’s son, Raj.” It will be directed by Akash Sherman and produced by Shane Fennessey, Adam Scorgie, and Sunny Sidhu. Crave has not announced a premiere date.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Khosrow Vaziri, perhaps best known as the Iron Sheik or Col. Mustafa, who passed away June 7th at the age of 81. At the time of this writing, the cause of death is not known. Vaziri was born in Iran idolizing Olympic gold medalist Gholemreza Takhti and became an amateur wrestler to try and follow in his steps. He also served as body guard for the Shah of Iran, Reza Pahlavi. After competing for a spot on the Iranian wrestling team in 1968, Vaziri came to the United States in the early 1970s and became assistant coach of 2 Olympic teams. In 1971, he was the Amateur Athletic Union Greco-Roman wrestling champion and gold medalist and served as assistant coach to the United States Olympic team in 1972 in Munich. That year, he met Verne Gagne and went to train with Billy Robinson at Gagne’s camp. He then went on to become a coach and trainer for Verne, helping to train several notable wrestlers such as Ricky Steamboat, Greg Gagne, and Jim Brunzell. In 1973, Vaziri made his first venture into Oklahoma, competing as Ali Vaziri. He primarily competed in opening matches and did not stand out, only staying there for about 3 months. Though initially competing as a babyface, one of the promoters in Verne’s territory suggested that Vaziri adopt a gimmick similar to that of The Sheik and Vaziri did that, completely transforming his career. He would compete in several territories as “The Great” Hossein Arab before making his way to the NWA, where he finally settled into the name of The Iron Sheik. He would again compete briefly in the Oklahoma area for MSW in September 1981, but again did not stay long, departing again just 4 months later. Sheik made his way around the territories before making his way back to the WWF, where he had spent parts of 1979 and 1980. This would be the height of his career as the tensions between the United States and Iran were at their height and Vince McMahon saw an opportunity to capitalize on that. On December 26, 1983, The Iron Sheik defeated WWF World Champion Bob Backlund for the title, becoming the only Iranian-born WWF World Champion in the company’s history. He only held the belt for about a month, losing it to Hulk Hogan on January 23, 1984. This kicked off the “Hulkamania” period and the national expansion of the WWF. Sheik stuck around and partnered with Nikolai Volkoff and they won the WWF World Tag Team Titles from Barry Windham & Mike Rotundo at the first WrestleMania. They held the belts for about three and a half months before losing them back to Windham & Rotundo. Sheik continued his career in the WWF, but ultimately was fired after he and Jim Duggan were pulled over by police on the New Jersey Turnpike on the way to an event. Both were arrested for possession of marijuana and cocaine, but that wasn’t what got them fired. It was the complete breaking of kayfabe as the Sheik and Duggan were “mortal enemies” on the screen. After a brief and uneventful return to the WWF, Sheik went to WCCW and feuded with Matt Borne for the WCCW Texas Title. He also made his way back to the AWA before coming back to the NWA where he briefly feuded with Sting for the NWA World Television Title. He then ventured back to the WWF, but this time in a completely different guise as Col. Mustafa, partnering with General Adnan and Sgt. Slaughter as The Triangle of Terror. He primarily served as co-manager to Slaughter during his WWF World Title reign, but also competed on occasion, even getting a WWF World Title match at the 1992 Royal Rumble. Vaziri spent much of the next 5 years on the indies before returning to the WWF, still a manager, but co-managing The Sultan with Bob Backlund and Tiger Ali Singh with his father Tiger Jeet Singh. After failing a drug test in 1997, Vaziri departed the WWF for the final time as a full-time performer. He would return for Wrestlemania X-7, winning the gimmick Battle Royal (primarily because he could not safely go over the top rope given the condition of his knees by that point). In 2005, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by long-time rival Sgt. Slaughter. He would make a couple of other appearances in 2007 and 2010 before retiring from the business. After that, he became something of a cult figure, even outside wrestling. His Twitter, which is run by his managerial team, is well-known for the inflammatory posts against people such as Hulk Hogan and Brian Blair. He made some movies and did stand-up comedy. And his battles with drug addiction were fairly public, though in 2013, he said that he had been clean from cocaine for 4 years in an interview. Vaziri competed on 14 Oklahoma based cards. The earliest was for TSW on May 28, 1973, where, as Ali Vaziri, he defeated Ronnie Paul in Tulsa, OK. His last appearance was at an NWA event in Tulsa where, as the Iron Shiek, he defeated Brad Armstrong.
The wrestling world is mourning the death of The Iron Sheik, the charismatic former WWF World Champion who passed away at the age of 81. "WWE is saddened to learn that Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, known the world over as WWE Hall of Famer The Iron Sheik, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, at age 81," said a WWE statement. "WWE extends its condolences to The Iron Sheik’s family, friends and fans." The company also profiled The Iron Sheik with a story on their WWE.com website. All Elite Wrestling also tweeted a statement following the news of his passing. "AEW joins the wrestling world in mourning the passing of the Iron Sheik. Our thoughts are with his family, his friends and his fans," AEW said. The news of The Iron Sheik's death was also covered quickly by mainstream media, including ESPN, The New York Post, Daily Mail, Bleacher Report, NBC News, Variety, TMZ, The Hollywood Reporter, CBS News, People, Deadline, Sports Illustrated, The Washington Post, and many others. Mick Foley: “The wrestling world lost a true legend today, with the passing of Khosrow Vaziri, better known to fans across the globe as The Iron Sheik. Although I never got to know The Sheik well, I was fortunate to have been on hand for two of his most iconic matches - his WWE title victory over Bob Backlund at Madison Square Garden on December 26, 1983 and his “Boot Camp Match” with Sgt Slaughter at MSG in August, 1984. I also had the honor of wrestling the iron sheik for the first and only time – on a tour of Dominica in 1987. Khosrow Vaziri was truly one of a kind. I send my deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those who loved him.”
Triple H: “The legend. An all-time great performer and WWE Hall of Famer who brought his character to life and transcended our business. My condolences to The Iron Sheik’s family, friends and fans.”

Natalya: “NOTHING BUT LOVE AND RESPECT to the Iron Sheik. The wrestling world has lost an icon and a very special person.”

WWE uploaded a tribute video for The Iron Sheik. The video was shown during SmackDown on Friday night.
Hulk Hogan paid tribute to The Iron Sheik, who passed away at the age of 81. While Hogan was often the butt of jokes on Sheik's Twitter with the trademark "F*CK THE HULK HOGAN" and similar rude, yet hilarious tweets, the two were great friends in real life. "The wrestling world has lost a true legend, and Sheikh's contributions to our industry will never be forgotten. I'll always cherish the battles we had in the ring. Our matches were intense, and our rivalry was legendary. We shared a bond that only fellow wrestlers can understand," Hogan wrote. Hogan defeated Sheik for the WWF World Title in January 1984 at Madison Square Garden in New York City and kickstarted what came to be known as "Hulkamania". The two later feuded in the early 1990s as Hogan went after Sgt. Slaughter and Sheik joined in as Col. Mustafa. "Iron Sheik's unique charisma, undeniable talent, and unforgettable personality made him an unforgettable figure in the hearts of wrestling fans worldwide. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of wrestlers to come," Hogan added. After Sheik retired, he continued to insult Hogan in the media, especially on "The Howard Stern Show", making for some hilarious moments. One time, Hogan was in studio and the production called Sheik live and the two went at it, with Sheik cutting a promo and calling Hogan a jabroni and many other adjectives...but then said he would forgive Hulk. "Thank you, I forgive you too Sheik, I love you," Hogan said. "I love you too man," Sheik responded as the crew of Howard Stern burst out laughing at Sheik's instant turn. Hogan ended his tribute to Sheik writing, "Rest in peace, Iron Sheik. You will always be remembered as a true warrior of the ring."
