NEWS
MVP, Cedric Alexander, and Shelton Benjamin, who at one time formed The Hurt Business, were seen talking in the background with Adam Pearce as Damage CTRL were walking to the ring on last Monday's episode on "RAW".
In a post-show angle after Friday night’s "SmackDown", The Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar) attacked Drew McIntyre & Sheamus and laid them out.
Matches and segments added the the WWE YouTube channel last week include Goldberg's WWE debut on the March 31, 2000 episode of "WWE Monday Night RAW".
WWE went on a firing spree when the pandemic hit, and many superstars lost their job throughout the past couple of years. Some of them were total surprises, some of them not so much, but one thing was for sure: the Vince McMahon regime was ruthless when it came to cost-cutting. When McMahon left WWE in July and his son-in-law Triple H took over creative and talent, it was inevitable that some of his favorites would be making their return. A new regime in charge was ready to inject some life into the company which had been somewhat suffering under McMahon's way of thinking. Triple H didn't just bring one or two of "his" people...he brought back a lot of them, many of which were part of his NXT project when he was in charge, an NXT project which was gutted, literally, by Vince and John Laurinaitis. Triple H's team was slashed and his trusted colleagues were fired, but we all know how that ended. The returns started quickly at SummerSlam and continued at a steady pace. In total, 18 WWE Superstars found their way back to the company. Dakota Kai, Braun Strowman, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Mia Yim, Sarah Logan, Emma, Tegan Nox, Karrion Kross, Scarlett, Dexter Lumis, Hit Row (Top Dolla, Ashante Adonis, & B-Fab), Johnny Gargano, Candice LaRae, Bronson Reed, and Bray Wyatt all returned to the company following the return of Triple H in power. Io Shirai, who was about to walk away, also signed a new deal and was moved to the main roster. William Regal, who was fired by WWE in January 2022 and joined AEW in March 2022, quit AEW in December and is starting again with WWE in January 2023. Regal is one of Triple H's closest friends and advisors and AEW President Tony Khan facilitated his WWE return by agreeing not to pick up Regal's optional year so he can go back and also be with his son, Charlie Dempsey, who wrestles for NXT.
Ric Flair was on Corey Graves’ “After The Bell” podcast where he talked about his career and more. During it, he revealed that Charlotte Flair was away from WWE for several months after losing the SmackDown Women’s Title to Ronda Rousey at "WrestleMania Backlash" last May because she was getting married to Andrade and also had a major issue with her teeth. Originally, she was only supposed to be gone for a few months, but her absence lasted until late December when she returned to capture the SmackDown Women’s Title. “I’m so happy for her, and they’re very, very happy, and you know what happened? It happened at a time where she could take a break, where they didn’t get married and then go back to work. The arm thing with Ronda and she got hit in the mouth in that same match and had a major issue with her teeth, which are from all the years of cheerleading, wrestling, and whatever else, but it was a well deserved rest. I mean, sometimes it’s good to walk away from it. There’s certainly no loss of respect losing to Ronda Rousey. I mean, I thought they had a hell of a match and it was a good opportunity for her to get away. She and Manny (Andrade) had an opportunity to spend a lot of time together. They bought a new home. I mean, it’s really been good for them, but at the same time, I know how bad she wanted to get back into it. After a while, all that gets old and now I want back in.”
For the last year, there has been speculation about The Rock coming back for one more match at "WrestleMania" where he would wrestle Roman Reigns. Because of The Rock’s Hollywood schedule, it couldn’t happen at "WrestleMania 38", but now, the company is looking at "WrestleMania 39" in 2023 as a possibility. On his "To Be the Man" Podcast, Ric Flair recently stated that Cody Rhodes or Randy Orton, who is sidelined after undergoing surgery, should step up to face Reigns if The Rock isn’t available. “Well, as I said before, my first preference, I’m tied with two things. I’d like to see Cody (Rhodes) and/or Randy Orton, if his back. I don’t think Randy, I looked it up, I don’t think Randy and Roman have ever worked, except in a tag match maybe. But obviously Cody, Cody was on fire when he got injured. And I mean, he brings so much energy and I mean, he has really become a hell of a talent, and I think that’d be a great match also. Now it’s sold out, they can do what they want, I think it’s sold out on both nights already.”
Ric Flair recently talked about a wide range of topics on his "To Be The Man" podcast, including his desire to be a wrestling manager. Here are the highlights: If he would like to be a manager in wrestling: “I’d love to manage somebody right now. I could manage any number of guys but it’s never gonna happen, so it’s just a dream. I would really love to manage Andrade (el Idolo) because he is such a great worker, but you know, it’s just the language barrier sometimes holds guys back that are much better than they’re ever given an opportunity to be.” If there was any fallout after Dark Side of the Ring’s Plane Ride From Hell episode from either Fiterman Sports Group or CarShield: “The day it went down, Ryan (Fiterman) called me and he said, ‘Hey, man, I got your back. I know it’s bullsh*t’, and the same thing with the people from CarShield, and it was bullsh*t.”
Impact Wrestling uploaded their Don West tribute video that aired on this Thursday’s episode of "Impact". The video includes comments from Gail Kim, Josh Alexander, Moose, Chris Harris, O. D. B., Eddie Edwards, Sami Callihan, and Frankie Kazarian. You can watch the video by licking here.
Matt Duffield, formerly known as pro wrestler Matt Riviera, began his term as a member of the Arkansas House of Representatives for District 53 on January 1st. He was elected to office on November 8, 2022. For the 94th General Assembly,
Sam Stackhouse suffered a fractured orbital bone, a fractured nose bone, and a broken nasal cavity during the Game Changer Wrestling events in Atlantic City, NJ on December 31st and January 1st. He is expected to be out of action for 4-6 weeks. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Mike Pappas, who passed away December 31, 2022 after a battle with colorectal cancer. He was 81 years old. Pappas, whose real name was Emmanouel Savvenas, began competing in 1968 after learning how to wrestle in Greece. His career only lasted about 10 years and most of it was spent in the WWWF as an undercard guy. But he did have bigger pushes in Tennessee with Nick Gulas (who was instrumental in getting him his work visa) and Iowa. In 1974, Pappas made his first appearance in TSW. It was a one-off appearance, but he would return for 2 more matches in 1975 and a brief 2-month run in 1977. Pappas retired from in-ring competition in 1978 and moved on to a second career as a master goldsmith. In 2021, a documentary about his life, entitled "The Flying Greek" was premiered and Pappas received the Courage award from the Cauliflower Alley Club. In February of 2022, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Independent Circuit Wrestling Federation at an event in Republic, MO. Mid-States Wrestling also gave him a Lifetime Achievement Award at an event in Pappas' hometown of Springfield, MO less than 2 weeks before his passing. Pappas has 9 documented matches in TSW. The earliest being a tag team match on November 24, 1974 in Tulsa, where he teamed with Ted DiBiase against The Hollywood Blondes (Jerry Brown & Buddy Roberts), but there is no record of who won this match. His last documented match in Oklahoma was on April 23, 1977 in Lawton, where he teamed with Terry Sawyer against Professor Ito & Mr. Sakurada, but again there are no records of who won this match.
Greg Oliver of SLAM! Wrestling wrote a story about the passing of Mike Pappas, which you can read by clicking here.
