Caballero's War Plan Derailed Twice Prior to ExtravaSlamza!

Caballero's War Plan Derailed Twice Prior to ExtravaSlamza!

Posted: Aug 3rd 2022 By: CMBurnham

It seemed like the perfect plan at the time.

Stevie Caballero, the head of the Caballero Cartel and the thorn in the side of Tim Rockwell for much of the existence of WFC, had been revealed to be in an alliance with WFC Director of Operations Richard Pierce. Together, along with assistance from Dr. Nightshade, they put together a plan to take down WFC from the inside.

They had the numbers. They had the duplicity. They thought they had everything going for them.

Unfortunately, they didn't seem to remember that Tim Rockwell is a villain. And that he has an extremely dangerous friend/tag team partner in Alex Royal.

They also didn't count on WFC Tag Team Champions Toxic Masculinity aligning with Rockwell after Johnny Lightning and Johnny Dynamite fought so vigerously against Rockwell and Thrash.

So Caballero went with a classic wartime strategy. Attack from two sides. And introduce a new weapon to the war at the same time. Catch the opponent off guard and at least one of the two targets should fall.

It should have worked, at least on paper. But Caballero wasn't dealing with a table-top RPG here. He was dealing with owner and founder of WFC.

And besides Royal, Rockwell had another surprise up his sleeve. At the beginning of the WFC event this past Saturday, they announced Bob Johnson, the chief financial investor in This Is Wrestling, the newest wrestling company to come to Oklahoma. And of course, with all this attention on the three men in the ring, Caballero quickly realised that the focus was off of him and his stable. So he came out to interrupt Mr. Johnson as he was addressing the WFC Faithful, flanked by the members of the Caballero Cartel. And very quickly, Richard Pierce, who was on special assignment providing colour commentary for the broadcast, made his way to ringside as well. Caballero picked up where Rockwell had left off the previous week. He accepted the challenge that the Rock & Royal Express had laid down to any two members of the Cartel. But Pierce offered to sweeten the pot just a little bit more. He said that if the Cartel were victorious in this tag team match, Rockwell and Royal would forfeit their positions in the Dream Team facing off against members of Control Your Narrative on August 6th. Rockwell & Royal agreed, despite not knowing which two members of the Cartel they would be facing.

Pretty quickly, it became apparent that Bobby Dylan would not be part of that main event as he would be challenging for the WFC Tag Team Titles. Or perhaps it would be best to refer to him by his new moniker: Bunkhouse Bobby. Caballero also revealed the newest member of the Cartel in the form of Deadeye Dawson, a complete unknown in WFC. But if you're a champion, you always have to be prepared for any challenge and that is exactly what Toxic Masculinity were. Johnny Lightning and Johnny Dynamite controlled the opening portion of the match until a miscue by Lightning allowed the Caballero to take over. And Dawson looked impressive in his debut, blending nicely with Bobby and putting the tag team champions in danger. Ultimately, Lightning was able to make the tag to his partnrer Dynamite who briefly fought off both members of the Cartel. Lightning then his Bobby with a Superkick while Dynamite gave Dawson a Spinebuster. Then the champions connected with a simultaneous Elbow Drop/Flying headbutt combination to pin Dawson cleanly in the ring. An irate Caballero, who realised that once again championship gold had slipped through his fingers, ordered Dawson and Bobby to attack the Johnnys, but the arrival of the Blue Bolt, who brought a steel chair to the ring with him, sent the Cartel retreating and Stevie off to focus on the other front of attack.

When it was time for the main event, the revelation was made that it would be Reed and WFC Drillsville Champion Rhett that would face off against Rockwell & Royal. And just as the Cartel had Caballero in their corner, the Rock & Royal Express had Bob Johnson in theirs, together with his trusty bat. Rockwell vented a lot of frustration against the Cartel, leaving Rhett nearly senseless after 3 running knees into the corner, while Royal did everything he could to enact punishment against his former protege Reed. But the match took a very different tone after a close two-count in the ring as Rhett and Reed bailed to the outside. It appeared that they were simply trying to buy some time and recouperate, but instead, the Cartel members made their way over the barricade and Rockwell and Royal were not shy to pursue. Both teams then paired off and battled all over the American Legion Post #1. Trash cans were spilled near fans. Reed was repeatedly given Helluva kicks after being set on chairs. A pool cue may have found its way into an unfortunate place on Reed. And Rhett was beaten from pillar to post by Rockwell. At one point, Rockwell took Rhett to the back and then they returned, it appeared that Rhett's hair and head were wet, perhaps the victim of a swirly in the locker room toilet. Whatever the case, eventually Rockwell and Royal brought their opponents back to the ring where Rockwell delivered a running knee to Rhett, leading to a Brainbuster by Royal for the pin.

Caballero's war plan had failed. No WFC Tag Team Titles. No spot in the main event at ExtravaSlamza. But Caballero has faced defeat before. And while he might not be able to put his influence into the 8-Man Tag Team match, the WFC Tag Team Titles were still out there. Obviously Rhett was not the right pick for the job. But perhaps Reed and Cruze could get the job done. And after pulling some strings with Richard Pierce, it was announced that Reed and Cruze would challenge for the tag team championships on August 6th.

The war is not over. As long as Caballero is in WFC, the war will never be over. Stevie Caballero hasn't survived for over 15 years in the Oklahoma independent wrestling scene by giving up. He has additional plans and renewed determination. Perhaps its not a war of multiple fronts. Perhaps Caballero hopes to win a war of attrition. Because of Rockwell has to wear down eventually, right?
