Danni Bee Fights For Oklahoma Pride At OKC Pop Festival!

Danni Bee Fights For Oklahoma Pride At OKC Pop Festival!

Posted: Jul 5th 2022 By: CMBurnham

The rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas has been ongoing almost as long as both territories have been states. Many sports fans are quick to show their loyalty and the players for each side feed off of that localised nationalism.

Pro wrestling fans are no different in this area as wrestlers who are proud of their Texas heritage are typically not welcome in the Sooner State. And the Texans are loud and proud of their love for their state and their typical hatred for their neighbours to the north.

On June 25th, that Oklahoma/Texas rivalry manifested itself at the Oklahoma City Pop Con when Mission Pro Wrestling brought members of their talent roster up for a show. Based out of Texas, MPW had done a show in Oklahoma before and many Oklahoma based talents, including Skylar Slice and Anna Lynn had worked for them. But on this show, a match that was advertised as being for "bragging rights for their state" was held as MPW Tag Team Champion Rache Chanel took on Oklahoma City's own NCWO Women's Champion Danni Bee.

Bee is no stranger to Oklahoma fans, making her presence known in many of the Oklahoma City federations over the past couple of years and also making inroads into Texas. She even made an appearance at an AEW show. Always proud of her Oklahoma City roots, Bee was fully prepared to win the match in honour of her Sooner heritage. Chanel, on the other hand, made it very clear that Texas was the superior state in her mind. Chanel also made it clear that the rules were there, but if she didn't feel like following them, she didn't plan to.

Bee showed off her in-ring skills and ability against her more ruthless foe and came close on several occassions to gaining the pinfall. Chanel took the battle to the outside displayed an aggression that those unfamiliar with her might not expect. 15 minutes ticked by and both competitors started to become a little more desperate. More frequent pin attempts and bigger moves followed one after the other. And still the time ticked down. 4 minutes became 3...then 2....then 1. And finally, after 20 minutes had expired, the bell rang and ring announcer Anna Lynn declared the match a time limit draw.

But the crowd wasn't happy with that and after a chorus of boos, several members began to call for 5 more minutes. And that brought out AEW World Women's Champion Thunder Rosa, the owner of MPW. Rosa got in the ring and confirmed with the crowd that they wanted to see an additional five minutes, but then said that due to the limitations of the time, she could not authourise that at this event. However, she noted that since Rache was a tag team champion, it seemed like a good idea for Danni Bee to find a tag team partner and to come down to an MPW event in Texas to challenge for the MPW Tag Team titles.

So the battle goes on. While Oklahoma may not have won this time, technically neither did Texas. Perhaps in an upcoming MPW event will finally bring resolution, at least in this tiny battle. But as for the bigger Oklahoma/Texas feud, the battle is ongoing.
