According to Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, The Rock-N-Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) will have their last match in Evansville, IN a team on July 3rd at Game Changer Wrestling's "Rock-N-Roll Forever" pay-per-view event. Their opponents will be The Rejects (John Wayne Murdoch & Reed Bentley).
Gail Kim recently spoke with Dominic DeAngelo on "AdFreeShows" and had a conversation about her decision to retire from the sport back in 2019, with her last bout being against Tessa Blanchard at Impact Wrestling's "Rebellion" pay-per-view that year. Check out why Kim decided to hang em up in the highlights below. Says she was having problems walking after matches: “I couldn’t walk after my matches like, legitimately couldn’t walk. I was using my luggage as almost like a walking stick to get myself from spot to spot. Once I felt like I slowing down in the ring, and maybe the fans couldn’t tell but I knew. That was the first part.” How she accomplished everything she wanted to in the sport: “The second part was, ‘Well, what’s the next thing that I want to accomplish?’ And honestly, I had accomplished everything I wanted to … The icing on the cake was just the Hall of Fame.”
Gail Kim has achieved enormous success through her time in Impact Wrestling, ahead of Impact Wrestling’s 20-year anniversary celebration at Celebration, Gail Kim spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard. There, Kim looked back on her memorable battles with Impact Hall of Famer Awesome Kong and Taryn Terrell. After her famous rivalry with Awesome Kong, Gail Kim noted her eagerness to have another “magical moment” within the Knockouts Division. “Awesome Kong was obviously, I think as a performer, as a wrestler, you always look for those magical moments, as we call them. They’re very rare and sometimes some people are lucky to have just one. So I was always striving to have that next one after Awesome Kong, and I honestly didn’t know if it would happen. It really is an alignment of the stars in terms of your opponent and your chemistry with them.” Gail Kim shared that she did find exactly what she was looking for with Taryn Terrell, her opponent in a Last Knockout Standing match at "Slammiversary XI" in 2013. “When Taryn came along, we knew each other from Smackdown and WWE previously, but she really wasn’t utilized as that talent. She always did want to wrestle, but I think she was seen as this pretty face. She was a general manager of ECW. So when she came into the company, she hadn’t been in-ring action for a while. So they slowly built her the way that it should be done and got her comfortable back in the ring. They decided to have us work together.” “I always try to play to my opponent’s strengths, and I knew she always wanted to be very physical. She always expressed that backstage. I was a very physical being as well. She just had that trust within me as well, which you absolutely need when you’re in the ring with someone else. I just knew her strengths as she was a stunt woman outside of wrestling and she loved that as well. And so I knew she would step up to that next level with me, which you don’t get to meet too many people that will go kind of balls to the wall, as you call it, with you.” “She absolutely did. So that day, I feel like people just really didn’t have many expectations out of this match. And so we just went for it and we couldn’t have asked for anything more in terms of fan reaction, pure reaction. It was definitely a magical moment.” Gail Kim noted that they followed the Last Knockout Standing match with a ladder match on TV, and they asked for a different stipulation so it wouldn’t be compared to the first bout. “That was supposed to be another last Knockout standing match, and because the company loved the first one so much, they said, let’s do it for our TV audience’. And I said, ‘No, we just absolutely cannot.’ I didn’t want it to be compared because it was the same type of match. So I asked her, ‘Would you like to do a ladder match? You know, are you in?’ And she said, ‘absolutely, whatever you want.’ So it was a literal begging of two, the management separately of each person to say, please, let’s can we do this ladder match? Because we don’t want to have to top that type of match and have it compared. We just want to create another magical moment. Eric Bischoff was there at the time and he said with that much passion, how can we say no? And so we’re just so fortunate that we were given that ball and was able to run with it. And Slammiversary obviously was that Last Knockout Standing Match. So those are my memories of Slammiversary and just obviously so dear to my heart.” Kim went on the praise Terrell’s passion and work ethic, noting that Taryn wanted to prove herself and showed her passion for the business. Kim said all of the women had something to prove back then and she feels like it’s a never-ending battle trying to get on an equal level with everyone else.
Trevor Murdoch emerged victorious not once, but twice at NWA's "Alwayz Ready". Murdoch now reigns as the NWA World Heavyweight Championship for the second time after defeating Nick Aldis, Samuel Shaw, and Thom Latimer in a Fatal 4-Way Match on June 11th at "Alwayz Ready". Following his title win, Murdoch spoke with "The Shining Wizards Podcast" and detailed the difference between his first time clutching the championship last year and his most recent win at "Alwayz Ready". “I’ve had a lot of people ask me what’s the difference between my first title run and me winning the title [now]. And I’ll be honest with you. The first time, it felt like it was for Harley, and felt like it was more for my family, and for St. Louis and for the people who have supported me. This one? Boys, this is all me. This is all mine. I’m going to blaze my own path my way, and if I piss people off, I’m sorry. At the end of the day, I’m still going to end up being World Heavyweight Champion.” “I’ve heard so many stories about top guys having to step on people to be elevated or to get their opportunities,” Murdoch continued. “I’ve heard so many kinds of semi-horror stories, and I always told myself I didn’t want to be that guy. I didn’t want to carry myself that way in the business. I didn’t want people to think that way. But I’ll be honest with you. Maybe they had it right the whole time, guys. You know what I mean? Because we’re still talking about those champions. And now they’re nice guys. Now everybody loves them and thinks they’re great. While they were going after the World Title, people thought they were the biggest pieces of shit out there. I don’t care what you think about me right now, because at the end of the day, you’re going to understand why I’m doing what I’m doing.” Murdoch found himself in that Fatal 4-Way Match after Matt Cardona relinquished the title due to injury. Cardona initially defeated Murdoch for the championship earlier this year. However, Murdoch never received a proper rematch against Cardona for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship he lost. Murdoch went on to share his thoughts on Cardona, issuing a warning in the process. “Me and Matt are going to have our dance. Whether I’m World Champion or not, he owes me a W, and I’m coming to get that shit. Would I rather have had Matt in there for the World Championship? Sure as hell, yeah. I’m the World’s Heavyweight Champion. That means I beat the best, and Matt’s one of the best. He’s lucky that unfortunately he had a biceps tear. Once I knew that happened, my attention moved directly towards Nick (Aldis) because I know that Nick was swarming around it. One of the things I learned from my first run, when I was chasing after the World Heavyweight Title, I chased and chased and chased Nick everywhere. I was relentless. While I was doing that, what I didn’t realize was, I was burning myself out. I wasn’t able to be the World Champion I wanted to be and Matt Cardona capitalized on it. Now, this time is going to be a whole lot different. Not to mention, I waited. I sat back and I waited for my right moment and the right time. I told everybody. It wasn’t a surprise. I’ve been telling people for weeks. I’m coming, and I’m going to be the World Champion again. Now, if they didn’t listen to me, that’s their own damn fault. I sent the warning. I’m coming and I proved it every time I’ve stepped in the ring.” Additionally, Murdoch also wrestled Aron Stevens earlier in the evening at "Alwayz Ready" in Stevens' “Swan Song”. Murdoch went on to explain his thoughts on being the last opponent for Stevens in NWA. “You’re here to make friends or make money. That’s where that statement comes from. Again, I don’t know why Aron would choose me to be his last opponent to wrestle. Most guys want to end up going out on their feet. Right now, I’m in the middle of no-nonsense bullshit. I don’t care about what’s going on with other people. I know that sounds horrible, but it’s sure as hell working for me. So, I’m focused. I’m focused on what I’m going to do. Aron, God love him… it wasn’t a good decision to have me as his last opponent.”
Impact Wrestling’s Scott D’Amore thanked WWE and A. J. Styles for the video message Styles sent in for "Slammiversary". He said “Thank you so much to @AJStylesOrg for taking the time to share his thoughts and feelings about @IMPACTWRESTLING. AJ is truly the more Impactful talent in the 20 year history of this company. Thank you to @WWE for allowing AJ to be part of #Slammiversary”
Styles responded to D’Amore “Thanks Scott, it was an honor. You’ve always been good to me. It was a pleasure being able to show you and impact my gratitude.”
With Jeff Hardy out of action, Matt Hardy needed a tag team partner for his match at AAA Triplemania XXX last Saturday night in Tijuana, Mexico. Jeff was pulled from his match after his third DUI arrest this past Monday in Florida and AAA said the match will go ahead as planned with a mystery partner tagging with Matt. John Morrison, introduced as Johnny Hardy, ended up being his tag team partner, dressed in typical Hardy attire and doing the usual moves. The two lost the match against Dralistico and Dragon Lee thanks to Morrison turning on Matt. Hardy was ready to end the match with the Twist of Fate but Morrison low blowed him and then hit the neck breaker, allowing Dralistico to finish Hardy off. Following the match, Hardy recovered and then hit the Twist of Fate on Morrison as payback.

AEW star “All Ego” Ethan Page was the latest guest on "Insight with Chris Van Vliet", where Page discussed a number of pro-wrestling-related topics, including his hope to keep moving in an upward trajectory as he gets closer to being with the company for two years. Highlights from the interview can be found below. How he hopes to keep moving in an upward trajectory: “As long as I’m in a better position than I am now – it’s not that I’m not about chasing titles or main events, I just understand the way the business works a lot more now in my old age. I’ve been doing this 16 years. As I’m maturing in professional wrestling, my mindset has definitely changed. As long as I’m on an upward trajectory, I’m okay with it.” What he would like for his legacy to be before he retires: “I would love that. I won’t hang my hat on that. For me, my goals have changed in the sense that, I want to be able to work for a very long time, but I don’t want to be in the ring for a very long time. I want to be able to leave a legacy in professional wrestling that has a connection with a large enough audience that I can be that guy at a convention in his 50s and 60s, getting to relive those glory days, meeting fans that grew up watching me performing, have a connection in pop culture to stay relevant and stay busy. For me to retire and kind of just sit at home, I don’t think that’s going to be me. I want to be able to make sure I’ve left a foundation to be able to stay in the industry in some capacity, maybe even as a producer or helping people with the promos. I’m also pivoting. We’re talking about the toy hunts, I’m trying to build a business on the side and find a niche market that I can succeed in. Now I’m doing my own comic book, so that’ll be coming out in a year or two. A lot of things in the works, but I’m not going to say no if I’m gonna be champ. Hell yeah.”
2022 has been a landmark year in the career of Wheeler Yuta. After signing with AEW the year before, the young star has begun to make progress up the card, earning acclaim from fans along the way. In late March, Yuta began to attract the attention of the newly created Blackpool Combat Club, and more specifically William Regal. After a wild brawl with Jon Moxley on the April 8th edition of "Rampage", a bloody Yuta was finally accepted into the group. However, not everyone has been quite so impressed. During a recent edition of "The Jim Cornette Experience" podcast, Cornette cast his eye over the recent Casino Battle Royale on "Dynamite". In the match, Yuta returned from a short stint in Japan, lasting well into the final stages. In breaking down the match, Cornette explained in no uncertain terms that he does understand the appeal of the young star. During the conversation, Cornette was asked what he’s got against Yuta, before delivering a withering assessment of the Blackpool Combat Club member. “Between him [Yuta] and [Daniel] Garcia who have they got the pictures of? Garcia. They have every… Yuta’s got something. Yuta has got some kind of God damn evidence on somebody. From every top star in the company doing everything they can to get Yuta over I’m sorry. He’s a nice young man, he’s very athletic, he’s got the charisma of f*cking cabbage, he’s bland and thin, and they’ve got people running around in the company already that with that level of push would be amazing. But because I guess he does a good imitation of a Japanese wrestler, he’s got to get pushed instead of the fucking money potential here. So he dumps Hobbs [out the Battle Royale] which is like trading your house for a tent as a wise man once said.” Wheeler Yuta recently returned to AEW after short spell with New Japan Pro Wrestling where he entered the Best of the Super Juniors Tournament. He ended with a record of five wins and four losses, which earned him ten points. Although he failed to advance to the finals.
Jim Cornette has gone out on a limb and named someone you may not expect as the best wrestler AEW have within their ranks. Not one to mince his words or shy away from controversy, Cornette has been critical of a number of elements of AEW in the past, including having heavy criticism towards one wrestler currently competing for the company. Speaking on his "Jim Cornette Experience" podcast, the legendary manager gave Will Ospreay another chance to impress him during one of his early AEW in-ring performances against Dax Harwood on the 15th June 2022 Road Rager edition of "Dynamite". Here are the things that I wrote about Ospreay, because this is the first time that I have seen him in a singles match [in AEW]. Remember, we said the 6 man from last week, I’m trying to see if this guy is as good as they say he is, but he didn’t do anything. In the past Cornette has had plenty of praise for Ospreay’s opponent, and that led to him wanting to watch this match in a lot more detail than he sometimes would. So here with Dax, yes you would have to be a parapalegic to not have a good match with Dax, but I wanted to see something. I wrote down that he looks good, he has a good attitude and he seems to be serious about his wrestling. He is athletic, he’s got a heel demeanor and facial expressions. And they did nice stuff, he takes a big back drop and I am a fan of anyone taking a big back drop these days, you never see it. They did a nice heat spot, went to the break where Ospreay kicked Dax into the steps. Of course Ospreay got penalized like we were saying a few days ago, anytime the heel on tv for any company stops the babyface you don’t see any of the heat, they go to the break and when they come back the babyface is making their comeback, what a rib. But anyway, Dax did a comeback, hit a bunch of Germans, missed a diving headbutt, Ospreay hit a big splash and got a 2 count. They stared going back and forth with nice stuff and false finishes, and people were going bat sh*t. I wrote that this is great stuff. Giving heavy praise, Jim Cornette went on to say that Dax Harwood is the best competitor AEW have, and also praised Will Ospreay as being leagues above Kenny Omega. I wrote two things, Dax Harwood is the best wrestler in AEW, and that Will Ospreay blows Twinkletoes Olivier [Kenny Omega] away. If everybody was crowing about somebody being a great wrestler in Japan then it should have been Ospreay instead of Twinkletoes. But then, Ospreay hits some kind of running elbow thingy and beat him 123. They did so many things that looked better as a finish, but ok, again, the problem now is, Dax is one of the best if not the best on the AEW roster, which now means that he is being penalized by losing every match that he is put in. In one of his other stark opinions, Jim Cornette recently discussed what will cause the end of wrestling.
Jim Cornette doesn’t understand how WWE have ran out of title contenders for Roman Reigns. On last Friday’s edition of SmackDown, Roman Reigns would defend his WWE Universal unified world titles against Riddle in the main event. Reigns would win the match, making it known that there was no one left for him to defend against next. Following that statement, Brock Lesnar’s music would hit and despite the general reaction being positive to Lesnar’s return, many are concerned with the WWE running it back so soon after WrestleMania. While speaking on "The Jim Cornette Experience", Cornette criticized WWE for running out of credible challengers for Reigns, once his feud with Lesnar is over. “Here you have a rematch of the biggest WrestleMania match that they could put together and that they did. But now the problem is, if Brock and Roman, the rematch is at SummerSlam that is the biggest money match they can put together. Then what do they have planned for Survivor Series, Royal Rumble, and next year’s WrestleMania by this point? They keep having to rehab and revamp and rematch the same handful of guys.”
"On The Sessions with Renee Paquette" , Effy discussed his feud with Jeff Jarrett from GCW. He said “I have to brag on myself. Now that he ran back to Vince (McMahon), and maybe we're doing a Memphis storyline where this goes longer, but I think I deserve one more match. I was at the top of the mountain. I did not die to the guitar shot that happened at Hammerstein Ballroom. I no sold a guitar shot, I've never seen it done from Jeff Jarrett. Second, I took The Stroke with a guitar around my neck, I've never seen it done before. Everybody tried to talk me out of it because it's very dangerous, but I said, 'I have to have this moment.' Everyone asked, 'How is Jeff Jarrett?' I got the full Jeff Jarrett experience. I got to fight him, I got to lose to him, and I got to have him decide to change the finish halfway through a show. You have to get the full Jeff Jarrett and when you look back on the memoir you go, 'Well, he got me too,' me and Vince have that in common now.”
Jeff Jarrett explained how his new role with the company came about. Jarrett recently returned to the company in an executive role, as he was named the Senior Vice President of Live Event Booking. During an appearance on "WWE After The Bell" with Corey Graves, Jarrett described how he had spent over a year with WWE, starting in 2019, and worked multiple roles, even as the pandemic turned the business upside down. “In 2018, I got inducted into the Hall of Fame. Fast forward a year later, did Royal Rumble and then came on kind of in a quasi producer role, and then I guess I was under CWT, creative writing team, which encompassed a lot. But then after about six months, I was moved into the live event department. So in a lot of ways, I’m kind of coming back to the position that I got into. I loved it. It’s a passion of mine. X Live events is a passion of mine, and I worked in live events in 2019 up til the pandemic. “So the whole world shut down as we know it, and then during the pandemic I worked in international for quite some time. And then we went our separate ways….” Jarrett then recalled how the company brought him back as part of its process of ramping back up live events after it returned to the road last summer. “As of late, it all happened really quick,” said Jarrett. “And it’s hard to believe that WWE’s back on the road almost a year, and as that ramping up process and everyone knows how the organization makes smart decisions, runs lean and mean, highly profitable, but I’m really grateful that the team, the executive team, said hey, we’d like you to basically come back into the live event department. There’s so much that goes into live events and years ago, it was called house shows. “The live event name, what it’s called, is really much more appropriate because that’s what it is, you come see it live. Now that we have RAW and SmackDown for the last 20, 30 years, and they’re no longer pay-per-views, they’re premium live events. So we changed the wording in a lot of ways and what I’m kind of dialed into is my first priority, the non-televised live events. It is an incredible undertaking.”
WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded Beth Phoenix & Santino Marella vs. Trish Stratus & John Cena from the December 22, 2008 episode of RAW.
John Laurinaitis has been placed on administrative leave according to PWInsider.com and Bruce Prichard has been named interim Head of Talent Relations. The news was given to WWE personnel last Monday at RAW and Laurinaitis was not present for the show. Laurinaitis features in the current WWE Board of Directors investigation of Vince McMahon’s $3 million payout to a former employee. The investigation uncovered that after the unnamed employee was given a raise by McMahon she was handed to Laurinaitis “like a toy” and moved to his Talent Relations department where she was his assistant. The man formerly known as Johnny Ace will not be returning until the investigation is complete and also depending on the findings of the Board. McMahon temporarily stepped down from his role as WWE Chairman and CEO but has retained his creative duties.
Former WWE manager Dutch Mantell (AKA Zeb Coulter) recently revealed alleged details of John Laurinaitis' "reputation". Laurinitis was named alongside Vince McMahon in recent reports about a $3 million settlement with a former employee and a subsequent internal investigation. Mantell opened up about Laurinaitis' reported reputation backstage of "sleeping with the Divas". He stated that Laurinitis was involved in a secret relationship with talents backstage albeit in his private time. He recalled past reports and said "Well, I heard more about Laurinaitis than I did about Vince. Because Laurinaitis is, I mean, I heard all kinds of stories about him. You know he would leave the TV, and then he would somehow meet up later, that was his own private time, and the diva he met with, it was her own private time too. That was kind of hush hush, but he had quite the reputation from what I hear. Now, did I do it? No. First of all, I was too freaking old, and second of all, and it's you got to actually work at a little bit. I didn't feel like working but see, Laurinaitis is in the position he was in, you know, he could just tell those girls anything, especially a new girl." Mantell further claimed that the link between Laurinaitis and WWE talent would raise eyebrows, especially when certain women received favorable treatment. However, he insisted that these were "alleged" pieces of information about Laurinaitis' past conduct backstage. Mantell continued, "And as soon as the girl had something to do with Laurinaitis, all the other girls knew it. So he'd put her on an island by herself, which actually caused more problems than what promotion or a move up the card could cure. So, when you look at these big Divas, there's no telling how they got there. I mean talent might have been one reason, something else may be on another reason. Allegedly, allegedly, that's my favorite word allegedly, I heard a lot about Mr. Laurinaitis."
As previously reported, Bruce Prichard has taken over as Interim Head Of Talent Relations. Now, according to Fightful Select, WWE talent are concerned with Bruce being the head of talent relations, with one going on to joke that Vince only knows three people. “The monkey’s paw put a finger down for some, as now one of the heads of creative is also charged with talent relations. Former and present talent alike chimed in, with one saying “Vince only knows three people,” as a joke to John Laurinitis and Bruce Prichard being tasked with roles. Another said that they’d had multiple texts from talent stating that there is concern about Bruce handling both roles, because now if you want time off, you have to ask the person who effectively is your filter between creative and Vince McMahon.” Seems like things in WWE are at a all time low right now, but hopefully things will turn out for the best with Bruce in his new role. Change remains to be seen thus far.
Mick Foley's son Dewey is no longer a member of the WWE Creative team. Some reports say he left in April, others say it was recent. At one point, he was the lead write of "WWE 205 Live". He is now going to promote Mick's "Foley is Pod" podcast as Mick says he is stepping away from social media and letting Dewey handle the chores.
Ric Flair‘s swan song will now be held in front of a larger crowd. Jim Crockett Promotions has announced that “Ric Flair’s Last Match” has been moved to the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. The event was initially scheduled for The Nashville Fairgrounds on July 31st, but after it sold out in less than 24 hours, it has been relocated to the larger venue. Additional tickets are available at RicFlairsLastMatch.com. In the press release, “The Nature Boy” commented on the news by expressing his excitement about the bigger crowd. “On July 31, I’m still going to walk down that aisle and style and profile as only I can,” said Flair. But now, a bigger crowd, brighter lights! ‘The Nature Boy’ can’t wait to do what I do best. WOOOO!” “Ric Flair’s Last Match” will air at 5:05 p.m. EST on FITE on July 31st.
Ric Flair says Jay Lethal is upset that he’s not currently part of the plans for his big event on Starrcast weekend. On the latest episode of his "To Be The Man" podcast on AdFreeShows.com, Flair and co-host Conrad Thompson planned for Jay Lethal of All Elite Wrestling to be a guest on this week’s show. Lethal was going to discuss his in-ring history with The Nature Boy, but he didn’t show up for the recording. According to Flair, Lethal has an attitude over not being booked for the “Ric Flair’s Last Match” set to take place on July 31st. “Well, is he gonna hear this if I say it? I don’t care. He’s got an attitude,” Flair said. “He wants to be part of the show, and I said it ain’t gonna happen. You know that happens, and all of a sudden, everybody’s feelings are hurt. You know, this is what we talked — what we discussed. Some people’s feelings are gonna be hurt.” Thompson chimed in, stating that he hated to hear that and that he thinks the world of Lethal. Flair said he did as well, but he doesn’t have the authority to put Lethal on the card. “I do too, and I’m not saying anything bad,” Flair said. “Just I don’t have the authority or even I’m — I guess, the owner of this venture. I don’t have the authority to put him on the card. So I think he’s upset about that, but he’ll get over it.” Lethal and Flair have been training together in the build to Flair’s last match, but Flair’s opponent has still not been announced.
Ric Flair still has no official opponent for his final match during Starrcast V weekend, but it’s been revealed that the Impact Wrestling World Title will be defended that night. Starrcast and FITE TV hosted a press conference today for the “Jim Crockett Promotions Presents: Ric Flair’s Last Match” event, which will take place on Sunday, July 31st from the Municipal Auditorium in Nashville, TN. The match was recently moved from the Nashville Fairgrounds to the Municipal Auditorium after tickets sold out within a few hours. The press conference featured Flair, Jeff Jarrett, David Crockett, Nashville Deputy Mayor Brenda Haywood, FITE TV COO Mike Weber, Thuzio’s Steve Kaye, and others. Nashville Mayor John Cooper was originally scheduled to be on the panel, but the Deputy Mayor noted that he was regretful that he couldn’t make it. The Deputy Mayor also announced that July 31st will be Ric Flair Day in Nashville, and Mayor Cooper has something special planned for Flair that day. Going into the press event it was believed that Flair’s opponent(s) and/or partners would be revealed, but there was no announcement. Flair mentioned during the press conference that “we’ll get the opponents put together” but he did not elaborate. He told one reporter that he can’t drop any hints on who the opponent might be because he’s truly not booking it. Another reporter asked Flair who his ideal opponent would be, and he said it doesn’t have to be a big name, just someone who can work. One reporter asked Jarrett if he is involved in the actual match with Flair. He briefly hesitated, but said he is not a part of the match. Jarrett added that he is a business partner of Starrcast promoter Conrad Thompson, and in a lot of ways he was representing Conrad at the press conference, and he’s a part of Starrcast. Flair also noted during the press conference that Conrad, his friend who is married to his oldest daughter, called him a few months back and asked him what he thought about wrestling one more match, and if he could get ready for it. Flair said he’s gotten himself in shape, he’s more than prepared, and he doesn’t want people to think something will happen to him during the match as he knows he will enter the ring and walk out of the ring. Flair also said he won’t be as good as the Flair of 1989, but he promises he will be better than the Flair of 2009. He added that this could go down as one of the best moments in the history of his career if he can prove to everyone, including the skeptics, that he can be really good at this, not great, but really good. Regarding potential issues, Flair said he’s only worried about two things that day – an inner ear issue he’s had over the years, and his pacemaker, noting that if it comes unplugged, he can just plug it back in. He also mentioned that he just won’t take a blood thinner pill that day. The press conference ended with a friendly back & forth between Flair and Jarrett, who joked about an inside joke, and that was it. Flair has been rumored to team with F. T. R. (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) to take on The Rock-N-Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) and a mystery partner, but there’s no word yet on if they will be involved. While Flair’s match was not confirmed, it was announced that Impact World Champion Josh Alexander will defend his title against Major League Wrestling's Jacob Fatu. The American Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) vs. The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) was also announced. These two matches made it seem as if Impact is helping to promote the JCP event, but that has not been confirmed. It was noted that more matches will be announced in the coming weeks. The pre-show for “Jim Crockett Promotions Presents: Ric Flair’s Last Match” will begin at 6:05pm ET. The event is expected to run for around 3 hours. Starrcast V will take place during the last weekend of July, from Nashville, TN, from the Fairgrounds and the Auditorium. This will be a major weekend for Flair as his final match, put on by the one-night return of Jim Crockett Promotions, will be held on Sunday, July 31st. "The Roast of Ric Flair" will be held that Friday, July 29th. Starrcast V will also feature a Four Horsemen reunion stage show that Saturday, July 30th. “One Last Ride: For The Horsemen” will feature Flair, J. J. Dillon, Lex Luger, Barry Windham, Arn Anderson, and Tully Blanchard. Starrcast V is scheduled to air live on FITE TV that weekend. "The Roast of Ric Flair" stream is $16.99 by itself, but you can purchase the roast and all of the different Starrcast V panels and stage shows for $69.99. You can also purchase a bundle with Flair’s last match, the roast and a plaque with a piece of the ring canvas for $199.99, or just Flair’s last match for $34.99. They are also offering the entire line-up of Starrcast panels and stage shows, with Flair’s last match and the roast for $99.99.
Nashville, TN mayor John Cooper declared June 23rd “Ric Flair Day” at the Nashville Fairgrounds at 1pm.
During an interview with "Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling Podcast", Kurt Angle discussed Ric Flair’s return to in-ring action. It’s been announced the match will happen on July 31st at the Starrcast event in Nashville, TN. The rumor is it will be Flair & F. T. R. (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) vs. The Rock-N-Roll Express and a mystery partner. “I think it’s awesome. I think that if he’s going to do it, I’m not sure who’s going to wrestle. I was told possibly Ricky Steamboat, or maybe even Jay Lethal, but I think Ric needs to go with a younger wrestler, somebody that can carry him a little bit better. If he goes with an older wrestler, it’s going to look a little bit like two old men wrestling. I think that Ric needs a younger talent if he wants to have a great match.”
Ric Flair believes events sell themselves now as much as the wrestlers do, and he wants to see talent be able to open up a bit more. The Nature Boy recently appeared on the "Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling" podcast ahead of his final match ever at Starrcast V. During the interview, Flair touched on wrestlers not being allowed to cut loose in the current era, especially when it comes to promos. This, he believes, has led to events selling themselves just as much as the stars. “You can tell a mile away whether the kids feel it or not. It’s a lot of pressure to read something that you don’t naturally feel in your heart. That’s a big difference. I mean, you could tell the guys that they really take off because they’re taking what they’ve been handed to memorize and then they put some emotion into it, But that’s just talking generically today. That doesn’t sell tickets. When The Rock comes back and wrestles Roman, that’ll sell tickets. When Steve Austin came back, that sold tickets. It’s just a different timeframe. “The talent is great, make no mistake, there’s some great wrestlers, Orton, my daughter, Sasha Banks, Styles, like there’s a list of great, probably 10 between the two companies. But the events sell themselves now as much as the wrestlers do. I don’t think they turn them loose enough. I know that they want to make sure they get the right advertisers. Everybody has to be happy. It’s a whole different world, but I still love it. I just feel like the guys that are really great like Randy and my daughter are held back because they (WWE) don’t want them to go that far. They don’t want anybody to become The Rock again that’s going to walk off. They don’t want somebody like Steve that could say, ‘I don’t want to do it.’ Back in the day, Hulk could say yes or no. He had that kind of power. I don’t know if that’s healthy, but Vince won’t let that happen again.”Ric Flair’s last match will take place at Nashville Municipal Auditorium on July 31. His opponent is expected to be announced this Thursday at a press conference. Ric Flair and Tyson 2.0 Chairman Chad Bronstein recently spoke with WrestleZone about the partnership between Flair and Mike Tyson’s cannabis brand. Bronstein spoke about why Flair and Tyson make a great pairing, saying that it’s an authentic relationship that resonates. “The authenticity of Ric and Mike is why multi-state operators are willing to work with them, and then when they come to the dispensary, which we’ve done a lot of tours and Ric’s about to go on one, it’s a lot of fun for the retailer when Ric and Mike show up, and the level of audience that comes. It’s pretty big, so I think that’s what one of the selling points is that a five-year-old knows who they are, and your great-grandfather or grandmother knows who Mike Tyson and Ric Flair are. I think that’s why they resonate, as Ric was saying,” Bronstein noted, “the consistency of who they are, the relevance they continue to create, that’s why operators want to work with them.”
Ric Flair wants his last match to be better than everything fans saw from him after he faced Shawn Michaels at WWE's "WrestleMania 24". In his first match since 2011, Flair will lace up his boots one last time on July 31st at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium alongside Starrcast V. In an interview with Connor Casey of ComicBook, Flair made it clear that his last match has to be better than everything he previously did at the end of his career, when he worked for TNA. He made it clear that he’s feeling more confident than ever, and he’s been training hard ahead of his return to the ring. “It has to be really good, it has to be better than anything I did after Shawn Michaels,” Flair said. “It’s not about the money. It’s all about re-establishing the fact I have my self-confidence. It’s never been higher. Back then, at that time, I was still having self-confidence issues and I was paying out (for his divorces) more to three people and had to go to work. Now I don’t have to do anything. But it gave me a goal. I’ve been working out. Kelly (Brewster) and I worked together, as partners in this (his upcoming comic book series) but she also trains with me and it’s a lot of hard work. We drive 45 miles up to John Cena’s place in the morning for an hour and a half. And then we go down to Saint Peak to training like there’s no tomorrow for two hours and it’s a lot more fun for me if I have someone to compete against.” “The Nature Boy emphasized his live of wrestling and his mission to end his wrestling career on a positive note. “I love wrestling,” said Flair. “I’ll never get it out of my system. I just want to have a better match and go out on a higher note than I did last time.”
Ric Flair will be managing his son-in-law Andrade el Idolo in a match against Carlito in Puerto Rico on Saturday, August 6th. Flair said “On August 6th In San Juan, Puerto Rico, The Nature Boy Will Be Managing The Great @AndradeElIdolo Against Carlito Colón. Make No Mistake- There Will Be Blood, Sweat, And Tears! Carlos, You’ve Felt The Pain. On August 6th, Carlito Will Too! WOOOOO!”
Manny Fernandez brought Terry Funk his Hall of Fame ring from the International Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in Albany, NY. Funk was unable to travel but they did an induction ceremony recently with Mick Foley.
In a video on Instagram regarding an update on his health, Jim Duggan said he was feeling sorry for himself, listing the several health problems he went through over the past few years including kidney cancer, several trips to the ICU with heart problems, and now prostate cancer. "They take out my prostate and I still have to have radiation because the cancer is still in me. I’m sitting there feeling a little sorry for myself," Duggan said. “Then I look in the mirror, and the man in the mirror is looking back hard at me. And it’s, ‘Duggan, pull your head out! Stand up straight! God bless that you have only 6 more weeks of radiation. God bless that you only have six more weeks of radiation,'" a fired up Hacksaw said. He said that despite everything, he still got it a lot better than a lot of other people. He urged fans to get their physical examinations done to save their lives. Duggan announced that he's battling cancer again for the third time in May, five months after he declared that he was cancer free.

The wrestling world reacted to the death of legendary referee Dave Hebner, who passed away last Friday at the age of 73. WWE issued a statement on its website and social media, writing that the company is saddened to learn that the long-time referee had passed away, mentioning some of his memorable matches he officiated and of course the whole Andre the Giant/Ted DiBiase angle. "Following the conclusion of his impressive officiating career, Hebner would work for WWE in a backstage capacity until 2005. WWE extends its condolences to Hebner’s family, friends and fans," the statement concluded. Impact Wrestling added, "Impact Wrestling is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dave Hebner. We offer our sincere condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time." Hermie Sadler, a big family friend and former race car driver who published a photo of Dave a few weeks ago, wrote "I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of Dave Hebner. Good man. Great husband and father. Great friend to many. I am so glad I got to see him recently. This man touched a lot of peoples lives and he will be missed." Longtime friend Gerald Brisco said the two have been friends since 1970 when the Hebners were setting up rings. "Had much respect for the Hebner’s. They were part of the company biggest angle both are deserving to @WWE HOF." Referee Charles Robinson wrote that it was sad to hear about the passing of Dave Hebner. "Certainly one of the nicest people I met in this business," Robinson said. Former referee Tony Chimel also said that Hebner was a nice man and someone who will be missed. Former WWE Executive Director and WCW President Eric Bischoff replied to Earl Hebner's tweet and wrote, "Very sorry to hear this Earl. Thoughts are with you and the rest of your family. RIP Dave." The Iron Sheik, who worked with Dave Hebner during his time in WWF, wrote in his typical all caps, "DAVE HEBNER MY HEART BREAK BUBBA I LOVE YOU FOREVER." Matt Hardy wrote, "RIP Dave Hebner - You & @TheEarlHebner were always so kind & supportive towards myself & Jeff. I have lots of love for the entire Hebner family. My thoughts go out to your family & friends. Godspeed, Dave." WWE producer Hurricane Helms also wrote how Dave was always kind to him while WWE Hall of Famer Sean Waltman described the Hebner twins as two of the nicest people he's ever crossed paths with in pro wrestling. "I am so saddened to hear about Dave Hebner’s passing. I adore this whole family so much," added Gail Kim, who worked with Dave in TNA. "I’ve been so fortunate to be able to work with Dave, Earl, Brian and Katie and I’m thinking of them all today at this sad time. Let’s celebrate Dave’s life. Love to the Hebners." Mickie James, who also worked with the Hebner family many times, wrote, "My thoughts and prayers are with all of the Hebner family right now. I’m so saddened to hear of the passing of Dave Hebner. Sending you both @TheEarlHebner & @babyhebner every bit of my love. Our condolences to your family, friends & all his loved ones. Im so sorry."
For a second time in the same weekend, the wrestling world was in mourning, this time remembering another legendary WWE referee, Tim White. White, who served as a referee until 2002 when he tore his shoulder during a Hell In A Cell match between Triple H and Chris Jericho, was a favorite to many and got his fair share of bumps along the years. He also accompanied many WWE Superstars to appearances throughout the years. "WWE is saddened to learn that long-time referee Tim White has passed away and extends its condolences to White’s family, friends and fans," said a statement by WWE. Shawn Michaels, who had many matches refereed by White, also reflected on the death of Dave Hebner. "Saddened to hear about both Dave Hebner and Tim White. Both incredible men I was privileged to spend time with in and out of the ring. My thoughts are with their families," HBK wrote. Ric Flair also remembered both referees in a tweet he sent out today. "I'm saddened to hear about the passing of two of my friends - Dave Hebner & Tim White. I’m grateful to have known both of these incredible men. Rest in peace!" Fellow former WWE referee Jimmy Korderas, who worked with White for several years wrote, "Another big brother is no longer with us. Rest in Power my dear friend Tim White." Former WWE Champion Big E wrote that he lit up every time he saw Tim White, a man who was often tasked with shepherding them at appearances and conventions the last several years. "He was always extraordinarily kind and warm. I will miss you, my friend. My deepest condolences to his family and friends," Big E said. NXT commentator Wade Barrett wrote, "Sad to hear the news about Tim White. He was a total gent and a great laugh to hang out with. I knew I was guaranteed a fun day whenever he’d escort me on any WWE appearances." Dolph Ziggler added, "Tim White brightened every room he walked into & the WWE locker room was especially lucky to have him. Being around Timmy on several PR tours was a joy! We would get our work done & meet after and he would tell old road stories & we’d laugh til the sun came up. Cheers, sir." Posting photos of the two together from his own home bar and gym, Sheamus wrote, "I’m absolutely gutted. Timmy, thank you for the laughs, your advice, amazing stories and great times. I love ya fella." Shelton Benjamin also worked with White throughout his WWE career and said that we lost a great guy. "Tim always made me feel like much welcomed family. My condolences to the White family." Former WCW President Eric Bischoff said he always looked forward to seeing Tim. "Last time was around Christmas. As always, Tim was as warm, genuine, and full of life as usual. I'll miss hearing your stories. See ya down the road." J. B. L. described White as one of the best guys he's ever known. "He and Arnie were the epitome of old school cool. Ron and I tore up his bar a few times….and we had more nights together in more countries than I can count having a great time. Rest easy Legend. Love you," J. B. L. wrote. Paige said White had a heart of gold and was always the nicest person in any room he was in. "I’ll miss his Andre the Giant stories and hugs. Lucky to have known such a great human. RIP Tim," Paige said. "The World's loss. The World is a less better place without Tim White," continued Sean Waltman. Adam Scherr, known as Braun Strowman in WWE, added, "The world lost an amazing human. Tim was one of a kind. He was always in charge of handling me when I was with WWE. I was so honored to have him at my side like Andre did. You will be so very missed my dear friend. I’ll see you in Valhalla." Matt Hardy wrote, "Timmy was always so great to me & was a huge supporter of The Hardys. He was the kindest, most fair man you could ever meet. My thoughts go out to his family & loved ones - Rest in power, my friend." William Regal said he was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of his dear friend. "My deepest condolences to his family. A great man, referee and person. We’ve laughed so hard together we’ve both had tears in our eyes. There’s not a better way to remember you. Rest well."
Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Jake McCoy, AKA Dirty Harry Sanchez, who passed away June 18th at the age of 39. At the time of this writing, a cause of death had not been released. McCoy, whose real name was Jacob Coffey, began training for pro wrestling around 2001 and competed off and on for almost 10 years. His earliest recorded match is on February 14, 2003 in Muskogee as he teamed with Cade Sydal under the name Frybread and lost to Northern Threat (Luc Lapointe & Dexter Hardaway). He then made two appearances for TPW under the name Black Bear. On June 21, 2003, he defeated TPW Tag Team Champion Rick Styles by DQ and then teamed with TPW Oklahoma Champion Sonny C to defeat the TPW Tag Team Champions The Heatseekers (Rick Styles & Karl Davis) in a non-title match. Four days later, in Tulsa, he teamed with The Shadow of Death and lost to New Canada (The Canadian Luchadore & AWOL). At this point, Coffey returned to SRPW, where he would spend the bulk of the next 3 years. Rechristening himself Dirty Harry Sanchez, Coffey teamed with Shane Morbid to form a team known as The Bloated Floaters. Billed as cousins, Morbid did everything he could to abuse Coffey while Coffey did everything he could to try and earn Morbid's admiration. Coffey was a mainstay of the Hardcore Division and won his first championship, the SRPW Hardcore Title on March 7, 2004, defeating Brigg. He held that title until June 18, 2004, when he lost it to Morbid. That was one of a handful of title changes for that belt, which was contested under 24/7 Rules and Sanchez regained it that same day by pinning ringside photographer S. K. Fulton who had managed to capture the title. This second reign would last about a month when Sanchez, who was defending the title against Dexter Hardaway, but would lose it to Morbid who took advantage of the 24/7 Rule. Sanchez would have to wait about 3 & 1/2 months before winning the Hardcore Title for the third time on November 5, 2004, this time defeating Beau Dalton for it in a Triple Threat Match that also involved Morbid. But after winning it, Sanchez was attacked by West Coast, Inc. (Beau Dalton, Jack Dalton, & Adam Thornstowe) in the parking lot and dragged back into the ring, where Beau pinned him to regain the belt. Almost 4 months would pass before Sanchez captured his 4th and final SRPW Hardcore Title, this time pinning Kenny Campbell on February 26, 2005 in a Triple Threat Match that also involved Chris Kahne. But this reign would only last 1 day as he would lose it to Morbid in a Triple Threat Match that also involved Pork Chop on February 27, 2005. At this point, Sanchez set his eyes on proving to everyone that he was more than just a fun-loving guy. He wanted to seen as a top-level competitor and the best way to do that was to win the SRPW Title. It took the better part of two months, but Sanchez was finally able to pin SRPW Champion Luc Lapointe on April 15, 2005 to win the belt. Sanchez would defend his title against a litany of opponents including Paul Linam, the Suzuki brothers (Jose Suzuki & Juan Suzuki), Mitch Carter, Jack Legacy, 3rd Rail, and Chuck Singer before finally falling victim to his old nemesis Shane Morbid on October 7, 2005, ending his one and only Heavyweight Title reign. Sanchez remained a mainstay of SRPW until it closed, at one point becoming #1 contender to the SRPW Boys and Girls Club Title, but he never received that title opportunity as he disappeared from SRPW for a few months right after winning that. He would return as a member of Team SRPW with Luc Lapointe, Dexter Hardaway, Big Daddy Moore, and SRPW Champion Bobby Burns and lose a War Games-style match to the P. I. N. K. Nation (Shane Morbid, Ray Martinez, Jack Dalton, Beau Dalton & Bobby Dalton) on August 4, 2006, which led to the shutdown of SRPW. Jake would be gone from wrestling for over two years before reappearing on November 8, 2008, this time at ComPro where he went by the name Jake McCoy and lost to Tim Rockwell. McCoy also formed a version of The Good Ol' Boys tag team with Bud Barnes. For a time, McCoy just seemed to show up to compete, either in tag team competition with Barnes or in singles matches against the likes of Tim Rockwell, The Greatest Bolo, and Cast-Iron Cothern. He even briefly reformed The Bloated Floaters with Shane Morbid. On February 7, 2009, McCoy defeated The Greatest Bolo for the ComPro Oklahoma X Division Title. This led him to matches against opponents like Dexter Hardaway, Brandon Groom, and Draven Cross. Ultimately, it would be Goldeneye who would take the title from him on April 11, 2009 in a match where the masked competitor was contractually obligated to wear a dress. At that point, McCoy again disappeared from wrestling, though he did make a one-off appearance at a TAP event on June 14, 2009, losing to Michael York. Again, after spending about 2 years away, McCoy returned on October 8, 2011, losing to Richie Adams at a ComPro event in Sperry. This time, McCoy formed a tag team called The Dramatic Athletes with X-Cal and immediately targeted ComPro Tag Team Champions Michael York & Ignition. And it wasn't long before they took the belts from the champions on January 7, 2012. They fended off challenges from the former champions as well as The New Era team of Richie Adams and Goldeneye and that duo, guided by Stevie Caballero, beat The Dramatic Athletes for the titles on May 12, 2012. McCoy had one more ComPro match, defeating Michael York in a singles match. He then made his one-and-only WFC appearance at their first event in Broken Arrow on June 23, 2012 when he teamed with Tim Rockwell and Striker to defeat The Bullies (Russ Rogers, Kyle Kelly, & Anthony Jackson, w/ Richard Pierce). Sometime after that, McCoy suffered a career-ending foot injury and was never able to return to the ring. In total, McCoy has 90 documented card appearances at the time of this writing. He will forever be remembered as a fun, big-hearted person with a huge smile and an engaging personality.
