Trevor Murdoch wins NWA World Heavyweight title at Alwayz Ready

Posted: Jun 12th 2022 By: Bryan Rose

Trevor Murdoch won the NWA World Heavyweight title for a second time at NWA Alwayz Ready after Matt Cardona vacated the championship due to injury.

The originally advertised main event, Cardona vs. Nick Aldis for the title, did not take place. Instead, a four-way was set up, with Murdoch, Aldis, Sam Shaw (formerly Dexter Lumis) and Thom Latimer battling it out for the vacant title. Murdoch won the match after hitting Aldis with a top rope bulldog.

Cardona appeared at the end of the show and initally refused to vacate the title. After the four contenders came out to argue their case for a title match, NWA President Billy Corgan persuaded Cardona to vacate the title. After giving Corgan the title, Cardona stormed out of the ring, upset.

Cardona underwent surgery for a torn bicep earlier this month after suffering the injury at GCW’s Downward Spiral event in a match against Blake Christian. The NWA did not make an announcement about the status of the main event prior to the show.

Two more title changes took place on tonight’s show in Knoxville, Tennessee. Pretty Empowered (Kenzie Paige and Ella Envy) defeated The Hex (Allysin Kay and Marti Belle) to win the Women’s Tag Team titles. Meanwhile, the Commonwealth Connection (Doug Williams and Harry Smith) defeated La Rebellion (Bestia 666 and Mecha Wolf) to win the NWA World Tag Team titles for the first time.
