Champion Vs. Champion! (Part 1 of 2)

Champion Vs. Champion! (Part 1 of 2)

Posted: Oct 25th 2007 By: CMBurnham

This Saturday will mark the 2nd ComPro Night of Champions and will feature a heavyweight title match as ComPro Champion Anthony Jackson will defend against FCW Champion The Canadian Red Devil. While only Jackson's title will be on the line, this match has still been one that the fans have anticipated since the announcement of the Devil as the #1 contender to the title.

Both men have approached the match in their unique way. Jackson has actually been absent for several shows since winning the title from AWOL. But he made his return this week to ComPro and, although his voice was run down from an appearance at the FCW show earlier that day, he still had plenty on his mind to share with the crowd.

Jackson expressed his dissatisfaction with his match against the Devil several weeks prior. He said that loss caused him to rededicate himself and realise that the jokey, "all talk" guy wasn't him. Given what he believed to be unfair circumstances surrounding his loss, he also came to believe that he needed someone to watch his back. He said that he went to several bowling alleys looking for help and finally found someone. He announced that person as "The Oklahoma Legend" Rocco Valentino, but it wasn't Rocco that came through the curtain. Rather, it was Rico Suave, who Jackson seemed to have concluded was Rocco because they both wear yellow tights.

Jackson then gave a brief history lesson on his association with Rocco, which dated back to OPW. He mentioned that he beat Rocco for 2 titles (the TPW Heavyweight and TPW Oklahoma Titles), thus making him the true superstar in Northeast Oklahoma wrestling. While telling this story, every time he would mention something he did to Rocco in the past, he would assault Rico, ultimately leaving him in a heap in the ring. He then promised that he would defeat the Devil and retain the ComPro title with "Rocco" watching his back.

There had been some discussion recently on the ComPro message board as to whether or not Rico was actually related to Rocco. We at Oklafan can assure everyone (including Mr. Jackson) that, while it is true that Rico used the Valentino name when he entered TPW, that was FCW Tag Team Champion Justin Lee's idea and, as far as we are aware, Rico is not related to ANY of the Valentino or Casanova clan.

None of these antics seemed to affect the Devil. That morning, he defended his FCW Title in a Triple Threat Match against El Super Colibri and Michael York. Even the presence of the Shadow of Death at ringside didn't distract the champion from retaining his title. And then that evening, the Devil faced SWCW Tag Team and Sooner Xtreme Champion (and former OCW Oklahoma Champion) Beau Dalton in the main event. Anthony Jackson came out to sit at ringside and scout the match, which he did without interfering. After the Devil pinned the "Superstar", Jackson entered the ring and a brief staredown occurred between the 2, resulting in Jackson slapping the Devil on the mask, then exiting the ring.

So the mindgames are in full swing as the championship match approaches. Come back tomorrow as we present the 2nd part of this article, which will detail the previous meetings between Jackson and Devil.
