Bear Fighter Alexandrov Faces Packs of Opposition

WFC Hometown Heroes Champion Dimitri Alexandrov has prided himself for most of his career as a bear fighter. It’s what he does: he fights bears.

But recent events suggest that perhaps he needs to think more about finding strategies to fight animals in packs. Like lions or tigers. Because it seems like so many of the challenges he is facing are coming at him from multiple angles, courtesy of multiple people.

As a champion, Alexandrov knows that he has to be prepared for all comers. Having 2 or 3 people targeting a championship at any given is not abnormal. But 4 or 5? At the SAME time? That’s a challenge. And that was what was facing Alexandrov this past Saturday as he stepped in the ring against a wide variety of challengers in a 6-Person Scramble match. Justin Lee, Curt Gannon, NCWO Oklahoma Champion Killbane, Thrash and Richie Adams all set their eyes on taking the title from Alexandrov, but to do so, they had to survive 15 minutes of competition and be the last person to have a pinball of submission in the match.

Alexandrov started out the match strong, pinning Killbane after just over 2 minutes of time had elapsed. But approximately 30 seconds later, Richie Adams rolled up Alexandrov in a Schoolboy and pulled the tights, gaining a pinball victory. At that point, Adams played a very intelligent game. He spent most of the time OUTSIDE of the ring, where he couldn’t get pinned himself, but he also would slide int he ring to break up pitfalls and keep someone else from becoming interim champion. For almost 10 minutes, Adams stood on top like that and in that time, many other happenings took place in the match. Justin Lee and Curt Gannon had suffered some miscommunication earlier in the night and Gannon seemed not to trust the “Broken Arrow Bad Boy”, but Lee sacrificed himself when Killbane came in the ring with a steel chair and went swinging, taking a shot clearly meant to wipe out Gannon. Speaking of Killbane, he and Thrash operated well together as Legend Has It for quite a while in the match, but when Thrash went for a pinball for the first time after working with Killbane to put Alexandrov down, Killbane decided that the partnership was over and it was every man for himself. And Killbane didn’t get to execute his plan to become the HTH Champion when WFC Prime, BPW Lion Heart and CPW Champion Tommy Dean rushed the ring to attack the “Murder Man” after he started swinging the chair. Dean and Killbane battled to the back and then there were 5 competitors.

This actually made it easier to pin don Adams and after 10 minutes of being the interim HTH champion, Gannon forced him to tap out. 30 seconds later Thrash pinned Gannon, putting him in the superior position. And with less than 2 minutes left, it seemed like his size and power were going to see him bring the championship back to the Villains. But Alexandrov called on the support of the fans and was able to pick Thrash up in a Death Valley Driver and put him down for the 3 count. All he had to do was survive 1 more minute, but Curt Gannon wasn’t going to allow that to be easy to do. Gannon locked in a Rear Naked Choke with 30 seconds left and did everything he could to force Alexandrov to submit, but that did not happen and the “Saint of St. Petersburg” reigned supreme after the bell rang.

Alexandrov had been through a fight and one could probably forgive him for wanting to take time off and recuperate, but the next day, he found himself being summoned to the ring by C. M. Burnham at the ASP Event. 1 month prior, Alexandrov had cost Garcia the ASP Mid-American Title in an impromptu match against Luke Savage. And Burnham was still seething about that when he demanded that Alexandrov come answer some questions. Alexandrov explained that he did what he did as revenge for when Burnham cost him his shot at the ASP Title in a match against Tino Valentino to determine the #1 contender. That didn’t matter the leader of Legendary. Words soon evolved into actions as Alexandrov grabbed Burnham by the beard, but Garcia then blasted him from behind. Garcia then began to put the boots to Alexandrov until the arrival of Savage and Thrash, who made his return to ASP after several months of absence. But that return changed its tone quickly when Thrash grabbed Savage and executed a World’s Strongest Slam on him. And then, in an incredibly shocking moment, Thrash threw up the “L”, signifying that he had joined Legendary! With that, he and Garcia began to double-team a fallen Alexandrov. And as if that weren’t enough, Double D and ASP All Time Champion Erica arrived so that D could get some licks in on Savage after their confrontation two weeks before. This all prompted Red to make a tag team match seeing D and Thrash take on Alexandrov and Savage. Despite having the numbers advantage, with Burnham, Garcia AND Erica at ringside, Alexandrov and Savage endured tremendous physical punishment and still managed to come back. Recognising that they could not win the match, Burnham ensured that they did not end up with a pinball loss on their record, sending Garcia in to interfere. And with D taking care of Savage, Garcia put Alexandrov in position so that Thrash could connect with a Vader Bomb, doing certain injury to the ribs of Alexandrov. And, just to put the final bit of insult onto the situation, Burnham made it crystal clear that he would drive Alexandrov OUT of ASP if it was the last thing he ever did!

So the odds are certainly stacked against Alexandrov in the coming months. Jermaine Johnson will challenge Alexandrov for the HTH title in July. Burnham will surely have something prepared for Alexandrov as well. But this is nothing new for “The Sworn Enemy of Bears Everywhere”. Giant opponents, overwhelming odds: It’s all just another day of competition for the man recognised as the best wrestler in Oklahoma in 2020. And if he can find a way to overcome these odds, perhaps he can win those awards again in 2021.
