C. M. Burnham: “Morrison NEEDED Me To Become UWO Champion!”
Posted: Jun 16th 2021 By: Michael Hunt
When asked to describe new UWO Champion Brawler Morrison, many words come to mind:
Aggressive
Rough
Vicious
Even, at one time, psychologically unstable.
What has never been applied to Morrison is the word “co-dependent”. While it’s true that he has been part of two different tag team championship combinations, Morrison much prefers to go it on his own. He’s a man who wants to be in charge of his own destiny.
So why, then, does he keep a manager like C. M. Burnham around?
Morrison was recruited into Legendary, Burnham’s ASP faction, after the departure of Angel Camacho and that proved to be, for the most part, a worthwhile substitution. While Morrison has never claimed the ASP Title like Camacho did, he is a former 5-Star Champion and has held his own against several former ASP Champions. That success certainly must make Burnham happy, as success in the ring equals success in the bank account, especially of the manager of successful competitors.
Morrison seemed content with this arrangement for quite a while, but in recent weeks, there seem to be some fractures emerging in this partnership. At the beginning of June, on the most recent episode of UWO TV, the main event saw Morrison face off against newcomer Jake Cole. But Morrison didn’t wait for the traditional introduction that Burnham usually gives him. Instead, Morrison went straight to the ring and told Burnham to leave. A compromise of sorts was reached when Burnham said he would simply sit at ringside and observe. And the match was fairly even. Even Erica’s presence at ringside was relatively subdued. These 3 men know what was at stake. They knew that they wanted to get this opportunity. None of them had held this title before and the chance to add another accolade to their resume drove them to be as aggressive as ever. In the end, though, it was Dexter disposing of Double D and then Morrison pinning the veteran competitor that put Morrison on top.
Burnham was elated but again Morrison remained obstinate in his distaste for his associate. But while the pair were arguing, the champion decided to jumpstart the REAL main event and force Morrison to take the championship opportunity right there! Blindsiding Morrison from behind, Blade used his size, power and veteran instincts to batter and already beaten-up Morrison. But that was not the odd thing. The odd thing was that throughout the match, Blade kept trying to verbally instigate Burnham. He kept saying that he knew Burnham wanted to hit Morrison for all the disrespectful things Morrison had been saying publicly for the past couple of weeks. But Burnham refused and Blade simply became more aggressive towards Morrison. This pattern continued until Morrison was reversed on an Irish Whip and thrown into referee Brent Wall. Blade them rushed into the corner, splashing both men and rendering Wall momentarily unaware of what was going on.
Blade took the opportunity to try one last time to appeal to Burnham’s anger. He grabbed Morrison and hauled him over to the ring ropes, telling Burnham to hit him with his cane. And it looked like Burnham was finally going to give in and do what the champion insisted on. But instead of connecting with Morrison, Burnham hit Blade under the chin. While it’s unclear if this was an accident or on purpose, the end result was that Blade was down, Morrison was up and Burnham was trying to get Morrison realize the opportunity that was literally laying at his feet. One running-knee strike later, and Morrison was the new UWO Champion
None of that resolved the issue between Burnham and Morrison and that relationship remains strained to this point. After handing the belt to Morrison (or, perhaps more correctly, Morrison snatching the belt out of Burnham’s hands), Burnham gathered his belongings and left. But even in leaving, Burnham repeated something he said every time Morrison expressed his contempt for the manager: “You NEED me!” And when contacted for a comment, this same idea was the centerpiece of Burnham’s quote:
“Morrison needs me at ringside. He doesn’t understand why, but it is absolutely vital that I am there. This is a symbiotic relationship of sorts. He brings me money and I bring him motivation. Even now, where it appears that the relationship is strained, trust me, it’s as strong if not stronger than ever before! Without me, Morrison might still have become UWO Champion. But with me at ringside, it was assured! Morrison is a Legendary! Morrison is a Winner. And Winners Don’t Suck!”
Burnham promised a video explaining the more cryptic parts of this coming early next week. Until then, fans simply have to accept that this pairing continues to exist and that there is one word that will probably always define Morrison:
