Controversial Show Featuring Involvement From Joey Ryan Cancels Event, Deletes Twitter Account

Posted: Mar 2nd 2021 By: Jonathan McMahon - Bodyslam.net

Earlier today, the announcement of a charity show caused an uproar online as fans and even Tony Khan were outraged an independent wrestling show for women’s charities booked Joey Ryan. Ryan, who faces several allegations of acts of abuse and improper acts during the movement, was not only featured on the poster in a manner that tried to hide him from a prominent feature in addition to the fact that the promotion he once ran, Bar Wrestling, is listed as the promoter of the event.

Independent wrestler MV Young announced he was pulling from the event as he announced he was misled over certain things involving the show. In addition to that, Tony Khan announced on Twitter if Ryan was involved that AEW would pull their talent and would just donate to the charity though questioned if the show was even legit after finding out how deep Ryan’s involvement potentially was.

Now after the controversy and uproar, the account that announced the show has said they will be cancelling the event. In the announcement, they do claim everyone booked had all details, and they did go through AEW’s 3rd party booking system to get their talent. Eventually, they decided that instead of making the talent choose between the booking or being involved in something that had Joey Ryan, they canceled the event.

"We apologize for riling everyone up. It is clear that we’re in over our heads.

We’ll say that everybody booked was fully aware of all details including going through AEW’s 3rd party booking system for talent.

Rather than put talent in a tough situation, we’ve canceled the show."

Instead of choosing to remove Ryan from the show or putting the event on without his involvement, the show is now completely canceled and the Twitter account has now been deleted. However, it seems like this has been in the works for some time according to David Bixenspan.

"For what it's worth, there had been a rumor circulating for at least a couple weeks that Joey Ryan was using a front promoter to book a show that would be used to "normalize" booking him. But there were no details attached.

Thankfully, he made it easy before long."
