Romero Contreras sets multiple records at the 2006 Oklahoma Stampede
Posted: Feb 7th 2006 By: oklastaff
TPW Oklahoma Champion Romero Contreras won the Oklahoma Stampede last Friday and set multiple different records in the process.
Romero was the 11th man to enter the ring in the event which began with Rocco Valentino and Bernard Funk. Upon entering the match, Romero eliminated 7 men, including Rocco and Funk, leaving himself the lone remaining star. But that wouldn?t last long as Tri-State Champion Ryan Davidson soon joined him, along with the Prophet, Mid-South Champion Michael Faith, Brian Lakewood and TPW Tag Team Champions Sexy Bologna. But Romero persevered and, upon eliminating Sudden Impact, was declared the winnner of the match.
Romero is only the second man to win 2 Oklahoma Stampedes. He?s also the second man to be Oklahoma Champion and win the Stampede. Brent Albright held both these records previously, having won an Oklahoma Stampede in 2002 as OCW Oklahoma Champion at the Tulsa Indoor Fun Fair. Romero eliminated 10 men, which is believed to be a Stampede record, although there is no documentation from previous events on this matter.
Usually, the winner of the Oklahoma Stampede is granted a shot at the TPW Oklahoma Champion. But since Romero is the Oklahoma Champion, he was granted the title match of his choice. He announced on the TPW message board yesterday that he intends to try and capture the TPW Tag Team Title, a title he?s never held, and will announce his chosen partner at the next TPW show on February 11.
