IWR Wrestling, through an agreement with Universal Wrestling Archives is able to offer you what you have all been waiting to purchase for a long time. The 3rd largest wrestling promotion in the United States back in the 80's is now available on DVD and VHS. These are duplicated from the original STUDIO MASTERS. Re-live the action from the world famous "Cowboy" Bill Watts Promotions: Mid-South Wrestling, Power Pro Wrestling, & Universal Wrestling Federation! This is your chance to own a piece of WRESTLING HISTORY! This also includes releasing house shows as well from Mid South. One of the greatest promotions of all time is now going to be released on DVD. All the great talent... all the great feuds... all the classic promos... the blood and guts is now here. Wrestling the way you like it, old school style!
In the late 1960's through the late 1980's, a Professional Wrestling promotion was built by wrestling great Cowboy Bill Watts. The promotion spanned many of the Mid-Southern states in the U.S.: Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Eastern Texas and Southern Missouri. The promotion was appropriately named Mid-South Wrestling. The Mid-South Wrestling broadcasts enjoyed exceptional ratings success. In fact, they were in the top three of syndicated programming nationwide at the time. Because of its success, Mid-South spawned a second set of syndicated broadcasts, called Power Pro Wrestling. Although the promotion covered a small area of the United States, wrestling followers all over the world became fans of Mid-South. The matches weren't glitzy or fancy. They were no-nonsense, get down to business REAL wrestling.
The promotion eventually grew to nationwide syndication, and was renamed The Universal Wrestling Federation. The UWF featured the same great athletes and matches. Only the name changed to reflect the wide distribution of the program. The ownership again changed in 1990 when Ene Sooro Watts acquired the sole rights to the three promotions and their by products. Ms. Watts has other media interests as well, therefore naming the distribution company, Universal Wrestling Archives, Inc. a.k.a.UWA.
If you are accustomed to the lights and pyrotechnics of today's wrestling, you might not know what to think of these matches at first. But after you see the quality of what goes on inside the ring, you'll be hooked. These shows are legendary for their outstanding matches and wild antics. You will notice too that even though it's a "no-holds barred" atmosphere, the wrestlers kept their body language and their spoken language clean. You won't see the innuendo and filth that accompany most of today's wrestling.
The promotion was fertile ground for wrestling stars. Many of wrestling's greatest names either got their start in the Mid-South or appeared on the broadcasts. Most matches feature commentary from Hall of Famer "Good Ol' JR" Jim Ross. Browse the on-line catalog and find out! They are in the process of compiling an ever growing list of the talent that wrestled in this territory, but here's a sample of some of it's legendary talent:
Cowboy Bill Watts, The Rock & Roll Express, The Midnight Express with Jim Cornette, The Junkyard Dog, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair, Magnum TA, Terry Taylor, Hacksaw Butch Reed, "Dr. Death" Steve Williams, Mohammed Ali, Tully Blanchard, Terry Funk, Harley Race, Kerry Von Erich, Kevin Von Erich, David Von Erich, Fritz Von Erich, Rick Steiner, The Blade Runners: (The Ultimate Warrior & Sting), "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, The Samoans: (Afa & Sika), "The Million $ Man" Ted Dibiase, The Fabulous Freebirds: (Terry Gordy, Michael Hayes, Buddy Roberts, & Jimmy Garvin), The Road Warriors: (Hawk & Animal), "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert, Missy Hyatt, Dick Murdoch, The Iron Sheik, Jack "The Snake" Roberts, Rick
Rude, "The Big Cat" Ernie Ladd, "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff, Bob Orton Jr., "The Ugandan Giant" Kamala, One Man Gang, Tito Santana, King Kong Bundy, Hercules, The Guerreros, Shawn Michaels, The Fantastics (Tommy Rogers & Bobby Fulton), The Barbarian, The Sheep Herders aka The Bushwackers, Bobo Brazil, Big John Studd, "Mr. USA" Tony Atlas, Arn Anderson, Gino Hernandez, Tommy Rich, Mil Mascares, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, Andre The Giant & MANY MANY MORE.
