Why Matt Sydal Signing With AEW Is Significant

Posted: Nov 24th 2020 By: Daniel A, Nelson - Bodyslam.net

Despite making a slippery start (sorry, I had to), Matt Sydal has settled into his groove at AEW rather quickly.

So far, Sydal has been picking up more wins than loses in AEW, something that’s quite rare for unsigned talent in the promotion. When you look at it like that, his signing actually seems like it was inevitable but look at guys like Ben Carter, Sydal could have easily signed anywhere.

However we obviously now know it’s official, Sydal is all elite.

The way I see it, Sydal has now introduced himself as a title challenger and a hard milestone for any upcoming athletes to surmount. This adds to the ever growing high-profile feel of AEW’s main roster.

Sydal brings a fine balance of showcasing himself whilst also making his opponents look great.

He’ll continue to have great matches whilst in AEW and some of the potential match ups he could have sound devastatingly good;

Kenny Omega, PAC, either Lucha Brother, Hangman Page, MJF, Ricky Starks etc etc

What are the chances of Sydal being a champion?

As far as the world title goes, never say never is a rule of pro wrestling but Sydal holding the world title seems extremely unlikely. He’s a terrific wrestler and he’s over as a fairly big name but with the depth of the AEW roster, it just doesn’t seem likely.

The TNT title is a different story. This belt has Sydal written all over it, Sydal being a multi-time TNT champion some day just seems perfect. The TNT champion fights more often than the world champion and that’s the main reason why this suits Sydal better. He may never be the absolute top guy of AEW but he can certainly be amongst the best if given the chance.

Sydal will make some waves in AEW, I can’t wait to see what’s next for him.
