Mickie James wears many hats, but she wants to add a belt at In Your Face Monday on WWE Raw
Posted: Sep 15th 2020 By: Jim Varsallone
WWE Superstar Mickie James, a woman who wears many hats, returned recently after missing action with an ACL, and she immediately threw one of her hats in the ring, challenging for the WWE Raw women’s title.
WWE women’s champ Asuka has answered the challenge, and the two will battle for the red, white & gold title belt on “In Your Face Monday” during WWE Raw on the USA Network.
James rides horses, can play the violin, has done commentary, conducts training seminars, is a wife and mom, is an advocate for children and sings. How good? She opened for top country music group Rascal Flats.
With all that, first and foremost, she is a WWE Superstar on the red brand.
James looks to become WWE champion for the seventh time, but standing in her way is the aggressive, fierce Raw women’s champ Asuka, someone familiar from their NXT days.
If Asuka isn’t enough, Natalya and Lana have presented a problem for James, since her return last month. With that in mind, she is ready for “In Your Face Monday” during Raw inside WWE ThunderDome at the Amway Center in Orlando.
In my audio interview with James, she discusses her title match with Asuka on Raw, Natalya, Lana, working commentary, Patrick Henry High School, horses, Bunny and more.
During her recovery and rehab from ACL surgery, she worked commentary for WWE Main Event.
James, 41, is from Richmond, Virginia. She is part Native American of the Powhatan tribe.
She learned to ride, respect and love horses thanks to her grandmother, who owned a horse farm.
James, who played the violin, is also a talented country singer, cutting several records. She has opened for Montgomery Gentry, Randy Houser, Gretchen Wilson and (as mentioned) Rascal Flatts.
What an interesting journey for this WWE Superstar.
A six-time WWE women’s champ, James trained at the KYDA Pro Training School in the Washington D.C. area and at the Funking Conservatory, a professional wrestling school owned by WWE Hall of Famer Dory Funk Jr. in Ocala, Florida.
James debuted in 1999. She wrestled the indies, including KYDA Pro and Maryland Championship Wrestling. She also competed for Ring of Honor.
In 2003, she signed a developmental deal with WWE and joined Ohio Valley Wrestling in Louisville, Kentucky. She was promoted to the WWE main roster in 2005 and remained as a top competitor through 2010.
James competed for Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and twice more for TNA, winning the Knockouts title three times.
WWE afforded her another opportunity in 2016, and she’s been with the ultimate sports entertainment, social media and branding company ever since.
During her early years of wrestling, she competed as Alexis Laree, working the indies, including Bill Brown’s Florida Championship Wrestling with Bernie Siegel.
James is a graduate of Patrick Henry High School in Ashland, Virginia. She earned an Associate of Arts degree in business administration and studied for her Bachelor of Arts degree in operations management.
She is married to NWA champ Nick Aldis (aka Magnus), and they have a son, Donovan.
WWE Raw is 8 p.m. Mondays on the USA Network.
