AJ Styles Comments On Third Party Streaming
Posted: Sep 9th 2020 By: Mike Nunn - Bodyslam.net
On September 5, Vince McMahon sent a message to WWE superstars and employees asking them to cease all activity on third party platforms such as Cameo and Twitch. WWE confirmed the report in a statement, saying they wanted to protect their intellectual property.
On Monday, WWE reportedly held a meeting with talent and clarified the situation, saying that wrestlers can still stream under their real name and they must inform WWE of their streaming habits. The usage of Cameo was reportedly not clarified.
Speaking on his Twitch stream, AJ Styles discussed what the talent were told by WWE.
“From the contact that I’ve had and the information I got, WWE does want us to interact with our fans, and that means streaming. They want this to happen. They want you to have a YouTube channel. What we know was a little vague at first, but we’re going to talk about things that need to happen. There were things going on that we knew that we couldn’t do, but times have changed. It’s a weird time. We did different things and it was borderline whether we knew we could do it or not. Streaming is not going to be taken away, YouTube is not going to be taken away. There will be changes in other areas, I’m sure of it, but I don’t know exactly where that is. I’ll say it one more time, WWE wants us to stream and interact with our fans. Don’t stress out about ‘bad guy WWE,’ it’s not like that. Things have changed. It’s a great place to work, I’ll let my own children work for this company,”
Xavier Woods, who has found huge success in the streaming world with his highly popular YouTube series UpUpDownDown, commented that he will stream for as long as he can. Others, such as Paige, have already changed their handles to reflect their real names.
WWE received enormous criticism from fans on this subject and have drawn further criticism from legends such as Mick Foley, Kevin Nash and CM Punk. You can check out their comments here. However with these latest developments, it would seem they have backtracked on their initial stance.
