NEWS
Pro Wrestling Illustrated released their annual PWI 500 this past week. This year the list did include women that mostly compete in intergender matches. Coming in at #1 for this year was current AEW World Champion Jon Moxley. Among others on the list were:

7. Cody Rhodes – son of Dusty Rhodes

14. Roman Reigns – son of Sika
15. Nick Aldis – husband of Mickie James
16. Bray Wyatt – nephew of Barry Windham
20. Jacob Fatu – nephew of Rikishi

92. Ricky Starks
96. Karrion Kross
100. John Morrison
137. Dustin Rhodes – son of Dusty Rhodes
176. Jake Hager

403. Robert Gibson
421. The Beer City Bruiser
426. Gino Medina
462. MVP
469. Matt Sydal
494. Moonshine Mantell

Ricky Morton published the following on his Facebook page on August 23rd: “Hoot and I have officially been a tag team for 38 years. Making us the longest reigning tag team that still currently performs in today’s time in professional wrestling history.”

During his Twitch gaming stream AJ Styles said he would love to go after tag team gold and his pick of partner would be Finn Balor, another former leader of Bullet Club.

The NXT Title reign of Karrion Kross ended a few days after he won it as he was deemed unable to compete for the foreseeable future due to his separated shoulder injury he sustained against Keith Lee at "Takeover: XXX". Kross, who was accompanied by Scarlett, vacated the title at the start of the NXT show this past week. “When you go to war you should expect casualties on all sides. My shoulder separated, I’m in searing pain, but I love it, it brings me to life,” Kross said. “However, I’m a realist, and I understand the reality of the situation. There’s no way they’re gonna let me defend the NXT championship in this condition,” Kross added, as he took the title from Scarlett’s shoulder.

JBL, Mandy Rose, The Viking Raiders (Erik & Ivar), and Sarah Logan were guests on The Bump Wednesday morning.

Steve Austin just taped a future episode of "Broken Skull Sessions" with Jerry Lawler. WWE Network News reported that it will premiere on the WWE Network on Sunday, September 6th.

WWE’s YouTube channel uploaded Jinder Mahal vs. A. J. Styles for the WWE Championship from the November 7, 2017 episode of SmackDown and Goldberg vs. Shawn Michaels for the World Heavyweight Championship from the October 20, 2003 episode of RAW.

Ring of Honor announced some more participants for its upcoming Pure tournament. On this week’s ROH Week By Week YouTube show, they announced that Kenny King and Dalton Castle will join the field that already included: Jay Lethal, Matt Sydal, Jonathan Gresham, Josh Woods, David Finlay, PJ Black, Rocky Romero, Tony Deppen, Wheeler Yuta, and Rust Taylor. The rules of the tournament include: mandatory Code of Honor handshakes to start and end the match, 20-counts on the outside, a maximum of three rope-breaks per competitor per match, no closed fists to the face (1st one is a warning, 2nd one results in a disqualification), and if any wrestler interferes in a match, they will be terminated from ROH.

Give the folks at Paradigm Pro Wrestling a little credit for hype. It has booked UFC Hall of Famer “The American Psycho” Stephan Bonnar against “Filthy” Tom Lawlor on Friday, November 6th in Sellersburg, Indiana … and bout being hyped as “The Biggest Fight in Independent Wrestling History.” It is the first time the two have ever fought, and it will be under UWFi rules.

The "Two Rows from Ringside" podcast did an interview with Kamala last month and just released it. You can listen to it by clicking here.

Jimmy Uso has revealed that he has a torn ACL and has to have surgery. It will probably put him out of action until perhaps January. Uso is the son of Rikishi. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family of Brad Armstrong, who's father Bob passed away on August 27th at the age of 80. Bob was a professional wrestler as well beginning his career in 1960 and wrestled his last match May 11, 2019. He was also the father to three other pro wrestlers besides Brad. They are Scott Armstrong (who is also a former WWE referee), Steve Armstrong, and "Road Dogg" Jesse James.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of Carnage who passed away August 22nd from complications due to gall bladder surgery. He was 47 years old. Carnage, whose real name was Chris Scott, had traveled extensively in Europe throughout his childhood. He graduated from a high school in Germany, where he was also class president. His travels continued into in the 1990s, winning an arm wrestling competition in Gorky Park in Moscow, Russia in 1991. Like many, he got involved in backyard wrestling and transitioned from that over to the professional ranks, starting his career in Georgia in 1995. He first appeared in Oklahoma in 2004, teaming with Dominator and competing on the first IZW event where his team and the team of Aaron Neil & Johnny Z lost to Luc Lapointe & Se7en to become the first IZW Tag Team Champions. Carnage would team with Dominator again on the next IZW show and lose to X2C (X-Cal & Cade Sydal), which prompted a breakup of the team. The next night, Carnage defeated Dominator, beginning an on-again/off-again relationship with that individual. In October, Carnage returned and was defeated by John O’Malley to become the first IZW Hardcore champion. But the next month, on November 19, 2005, Carnage defeated O’Malley for the title. He would only hold it a month, losing it to Kenny Campbell on December 10, 2005. Carnage’s initial run in IZW would end March 18, 2005, when he faced Campbell and O’Malley in a Triple Threat Match for the Hardcore Title that O’Malley won. In October 2007, Carnage formed Great Plains Championship Wrestling, which ran monthly shows in Cache, OK for the next 2 and a half years. While GPCW ran, Carnage renewed his feud with Dominator. He also feuded with Slash, Brandon Bishop, and Seth Allen. Carnage would win the GPCW Heavyweight Title on three occasions. He won a battle royal on December 7, 2007 to become the inaugural champion. He lost the title to Slash on February 29, 2008, but regained it from him one month later in a Hardcore Match and held it until January 16, 2009, when Brandon Bishop won the title from him by forfeit due to an injury. But Bishop was unable to make the show the following month, so Carnage, who had recovered from the injuries, defeated Se7en for the vacant belt on February 13, 2009, his 3rd and final time to hold the title. His reign was ended two months later when he lost the title to Seth Allen on April 17, 2009. Carnage also held the GPCW Wichita Mountains Title, which he won from Li’l Joe in a Fatal 4-Way Match on February 19, 2010 that also included Ky-Ote Joe and Dane Griffin. Carnage was the last Wichita Mountains Champion as the company ran their last event on April 16, 2010. In June 2008, GPCW took a 6 month break and Carnage returned to IZW, this time under the management of Christopher Bentley. He tore through many lower card foes such as Austin Tacious, Ronnie Storm, and Javi Hernandez before losing by DQ to Angel Williams. Carnage would then proceed to "Halloween Hangover" and was the winner of the inaugural Monster’s Bash Battle Royal. But he never received any title opportunities and after losing to Eric Rose by Countout in a Qualification Match for the 5-Way Scramble for the IZW Impact Division Title at "Chaotic Christmas", Carnage again departed IZW and reopened GPCW. Carnage would return to IZW as a surprise opponent for Aaron Neil on February 21, 2009 and would rejoin the roster in on April 12, 2009, this time engaging in a feud with Shane Rawls. But again, after that feud was over, Carnage found himself facing random opponents and while successful, it never seemed to get him any closer to a title shot. Even matches against top stars such as Bernie D and Johnny Z didn’t help Carnage here. His last IZW match was July 11, 2010 where he lost to Aaron Neil by Countout. But Carnage was not finding it difficult to get bookings. In October 2009, he entered NWA-Oklahoma and on October 18, 2009, Carnage defeated Spoiler 2000 for the NWA Oklahoma Title. He would keep that title until January 23, 2010 when he lost it to Dane Griffin in a Triple Threat Match that also included Chad Thomas at an NWA Southwest/Panhandle Wrestling Federation event in Amarillo, TX. But Carnage was not done with the NWA. On December 17, 2011, Carnage won a one-night tournament to become the first and only NWA-Full Throttle Action Champion. He defeated one of the people he helped train for pro wrestling, Dakota Storm, in the first round, then Tom Donovan in the second before defeating Al Farat in the finals. But that was the only show that company ran. With GPCW shut down and NWA-Oklahoma out of his possession, plus with physical injuries mounting due to the hardcore style that Carnage chose to utilize, his wrestling career seemed to be put on hold. He would return to Oklahoma rings two more times, both for SWCW, defeating Shawn Sanders in the first appearance and having his match against SWCW All-American champion John E. Stone stopped for medical reasons. At that point, doctors told Carnage that he had suffered so much head trauma that he was already exhibiting signs of advanced dementia. That, combined with his size, made it impossible and unwise for him to compete in a ring again. And Carnage did not hide his battles with depression. His lack of time in the ring saw him find favor in other aspects of his life, including music, motorcycles, and his family. His friendships he made in wrestling grew. He would check in on his friends randomly to see how they were doing. As quite the Seinfeld historian, he would often quote the show in text messages and on Facebook. His caring heart drew him to help people. The motorcycle club he belonged to did toy drives and met with kids in need. He said on several occasions that he wished he could have had one more match, but he knew medically that was not possible. He talked about possibly being a manager for his long time friend "Super Beast" Chris Crotte (another one of his proteges). There was even a possibility that he would take on some other role within BCW, possibly in October. And while even he was aware that he was essentially on borrowed time, no one expected that time to be as short as it was. In total, Carnage competed on 70 documented cards in Oklahoma and leaves a legacy of blood, brutality, and violence that supports the nickname of “The Oklahoma Nightmare”.
