The Return Of The Villain!

The Return Of The Villain!

Posted: Aug 12th 2020 By: CMBurnham, w/ J. Bloodworth

In wrestling, part of the business is to create a gimmick. A character. Something that fans can identify you with to make it easy to remember. Some of those characters are far from reality. Kamala. The Undertaker. Samedi.

Others are exactly who and what they say they are. And for many years, Tim Rockwell has told everyone that he is a Villain.

Rockwell, the founder and owner of WFC, makes no apologies for being a villain. It's brought him success. It's brought him notoriety. It led him to form the most successful faction in WFC: The Villains. And it brought him the WFC Championship on multiple occasions.

But Rockwell also has the kinder side. The side that fights for kids. The side that utilizes the villanous aspects, but keeps them in check to a certain degree. But those desires, those intentions....they are always there. Just waiting to get out.

Two weeks ago, Rockwell entered the annual WFC Freedom Rings Rumble match at #6. He would have to overcome over 20 WFC stars in order to win the Rumble, but he had his eyes on the main event of the WFC anniversary show. He wanted to show everyone that he had been to that mountaintop before and he was ready to head there again. And Rockwell's perseverance got him to the point of being in the final 4 participants in the match. But to get to the end, he would have to go through the man who trained him, Dexter Hardaway, and two men who had once been the most successful tag team that WFC had ever seen, Alex Royal and J. D.; Simply the Future.

Rockwell struck first blood by quickly disposing of Hardaway, one of several disappointments for Hardaway that weekend. J. D. then evened things up by putting his former tag team partner out of the match. That left Rockwell and J. D. and either man would have been successful in the fans' eyes. Bt a swift move by Rockwell left him in the ring alone, standing tall and victorious.

So the main event for the Anniversary show was set....or was it? Because as Tim was making his post-match speech, WFC Hometown Heroes and UWE Champion Jon Cross came out to the ring unannounced and unexpected. Cross was on a mission to rewrite history. He had successfully defeated Luke Langley after their Oklafan Match of the Year at OKX AND simultaneously stricken his biggest regret in WFC history, the WFC Hometown Heroes Title. That title signified everything that WFC stood for at the beginning. It was the belt that Cross arguably made famous during his feud with Mr. Nasty and the belt that Cross carried for over 300 days and never lost, as it was stripped from him by management. Cross had always maintained that no man could rightfully lay claim to tha belt because he was never beaten for it. But Cross had seemingly moved past that, focusing on the WFC Title instead. Now Cross, after a lengthy stay away, had come back to reclaim his position in the company and to avenge the stains and losses of his WFC career. And there was one final act in his journey to rewrite history. He had to avenge the loss to Tim Rockwell. In 2016, Cross famously lost to Rockwell inside a steel cage and then disappeared from in-ring action for three years. So Cross was out to goad him into a match right then and there, putting his newly earned HTH title on the line and enticing Tim by reminding him that even though he was the owner and founder of WFC, he had never held the title that actually embodied WFC.

Little did Cross know that this was a new Tim Rockwell. Or perhaps it's better to say, this was the OLD Tim Rockwell. The Tim Rockwell that had been laying in wait The True Villain, Tim Rockwell.

Rockwell accepted the match, despite having endured the exhaustion of competing in the Freedom Rings Rumble. And much to Cross's surprise took things to a whole new level by hitting Cross twice with Shirley, Rockwell's crowbar, before pinning him to become the NEW Hometown Heroes Champion.

So now, Cross has to accept some closure in the FACT that he has finally been beaten for the title he never lost. Will he be satisfied with the result of the match? We may never know, as rumours circulate that Cross is now secluded and focused on preparing for his UWE Title defence against Mr. Nasty, whenever UWE is able to begin running events again. As for Rockwell, he has what he has never had before. He is a Grand Slam Champion for WFC. And he has begun referring to the title as the HomeTown VILLAINS title, at least in certain social media posts. Rockwell seems thrilled to be able to fully embrace the legacy and expectation of being a villain again.

Because, in reality, he never stopped being one
