WWE legend Ric Flair thinks Undertaker needs AJ Styles rematch before he retires

Ric Flair thinks The Undertaker has another great match left in him – and it should be against AJ Styles.

The Nature Boy has grown close to the Dead Man over the years, and while he has no idea if the WWE legend will lace up the boots for one more spectacle, he would love to see him clash with the Phenomenal One in the squared circle.

Speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk, he said: ‘Whatever he elects to do – and I feel like he’s gonna wrestle again, I have no idea, I haven’t asked him. But I think he’s gonna want to go out one more time and tear it down.

‘This year, prior to the health issues and the COVID – when I saw he was gonna wrestle AJ I was like, “Man that is the guy!” ‘

In the end, Taker and Styles did face off at WrestleMania 36 in April, but rather than a straight-up contest they clashed in the epic Boneyard Match.

The bout breathed new life into Undertaker’s career, while also proving to WWE bosses that cinematic wrestling has a place in its world.

However, Flair – who has grown close to Taker over the years – wants to see the two opponents go at it one more time to give the Phenom the defining match he wants to retire on.

‘[Styles is] the closest guy to Shawn [Michaels] in our business right now, and it’ll be everything and more because AJ gets it,’ Ric said before the final chapter of Undertaker: The Last Ride on the WWE Network.

‘He wouldn’t be out there trying to have a wrestling match, he’d be out there to enhance this phenomenal character that’s a once in a lifetime entity in this business.

‘I hope to have the rematch because that’s the match. That to me – I wouldn’t miss it and I don’t think anyone else would. I just feel like it’s not done yet.’

The 71-year-old Hall of Famer isn’t sure whether Undertaker – or even his wife Michelle McCool – would be open to one more match, but he’s certain he wants to watch it.

He said: ‘He can make that decision but personally I’d like to see it.

‘If he feels comfortable enough to do it, and he and Michelle decide that’s what they want to do I know I’d like to see it. That remains to be seen.’
