Crane Gleeful To Personify The Evil That Men Do

There are expectations that come when you refer to yourself as the “Self-Proclaimed Satan”.

Cheating, bloodthirstyness, a willingness to sacrifice your own body for the victory.

All of these things describe Wesley Crane. For much of the past 8 months, Crane has been increasing his visibility. While before he was a mainstay in Oklahoma and primarily thought of a tag team competitor, 2019 saw him break through to the top of the singles division in Metroplex Wrestling in Texas, capturing their Heavyweight Title. And so Texas became the priority for Crane and Oklahoma saw him less and less.

That may be changing as Crane has competed twice over the past two weeks. May 30th saw him venture to Guthrie to take on Kyle Hawk, another individual with extensive knowledge. Also like Crane, Hawk was long looked at as a tag team competitor, together with Ky-Ote forming the Arrow Club. But those days are long over and Hawk and Crane looked to make the encounter at the inaugural NCWO event memorable. It was a highly athletic competition which seemed to start out as friendly and honorable, but quickly devolved the hard hitting style that Crane seems to enjoy. And with the shift in physicality came the change to the trash-talk that Crane takes pleasure in. The insults, the dares. The the demeaning comments. Nonetheless, Hawk persisted and was able to kick out or reverse everything that Crane came at him with, including a Hellstomp and an attempted Goblin Driver. With the frustration mounting, Crane got his spiked mallet and positioned it in in the corner, preparing to drive Hawk’s face into it, but Hawk avoided that and went to the outside, catapulting himself back in with the Scalper and cradling Crane for the victory.

For many opponents, the final moment of defeat often brings a sense of despair. But for Crane, it seems like the the defeat makes him smile even wider. Because he knows that the victory will be that much more glorious. Perhaps Hawk wasn’t the right opponent for him. And so Crane bided his time and waited until the following week when WCP brought wrestling back to Tulsa. And the opening match apparently drew interest from Crane as WFC Tag Team and BPW Lion Heart Champion Tommy Dean put his singles title on the line against Spyder. This match, in some ways, resembled Crane vs. Hawk on the surface. Two wrestlers that the fans wanted to appreciate, but the added stake of the championship. And the crowd wasn’t split too long as most of them quickly turned their support to Spyder. This didn’t deter Dean, but did bring out a side of him the fans weren’t accustomed to seeing. Both men began to pull out their bag of tricks in hopes of walking away with championship gold. And then, Wesley Crane appeared out of nowhere, diving into the middle of the match and bringing it to an abrupt and unsatisfying end. Crane went after both men until the locker room emptied and many of the younger members of the WCP crew tried to get in and restrain Crane. That didn’t help as he fought off 6 or 7 people and only came to a stop when WCP acting commissioner C. M. Burnham threatened to have WFC Head of Security Chief Red Eagle restrain him. At that point, Crane asked if he could just go to the back and Burnham agreed. But that was not the end of the story.

After an intermission, Burnham returned and announced that while in the back, a wrestler had stepped up and asked to take on Crane, since it was apparent that he wanted a match. That wrestler: Brandon Groom. And now fans would see a real conflict. With Crane representing the satanic side of things and Groom bringing his faith and belief as his defense, it was almost like a real moral tale being told in front of the fans. And much like the Devil in the Bible, Crane immediately began to challenge Groom, forcing Groom to lower himself to Crane’s level with insults, profanity and a willingness to pull out all the stops. Crane quickly found himself overpowered (as almost any opponent of Groom does) and had to resort to speed and deceit. And it appeared that every time that Groom would appear to be on top of the situation, Crane would find a way to avoid defeat and carry on.

The end of the match was much the same mentality that Crane had with Hawk, but execution was very different. Unable to outwrestle or outpower Groom, Crane resorted to the cheap tactics. With Groom down, he pointed frantically to the entrance way. Referee Jesse Beeler turned and even C. M. Burnham directed his attention there. But nothing happened. No one appeared. And while Beeler and Burnham had all their focus on the entrance, they completely missed Crane spitting mist into the eyes of Groom and rolling him up for the eventual victory.

The celebration was short lived a Groom cleared his eyes and called the victorious Crane back to the ring, hitting him with the Fall From Grace and taking the microphone, admitting that sometime he has to sink to Crane’s level on things, but that he always brings his faith with him. So a Pyrrhic victory can be chalked up for Groom when it was all said and done. But wins and losses don’t seem to mean as much to Crane. Sure, the championships are nice. The money for winning is certainly attractive. But Crane is a chaotic agent. Someone who is here to stir up trouble and see how far he can goad other people in to doing things. And whether he has come back to Oklahoma to continue that or whether he returns to Texas (or perhaps other areas new to him), Crane is sure to continue his disturbances as long as he can get away with it.

The biggest mistake mankind ever made was being convinced the devil isn’t real. Wesley Crane is here to prove that wrong.
