NEWS
Brandon Bishop recently announced the reopening of Asylum Championship Wrestling on his Facebook. “Tonight I made the announcement. I have recently purchased Primos Wresting in Denver. On May 2nd Primos will promote its final show, in June ASYLUM WRESTLING returns. I understand that some that have followed Primos for years aren’t exactly happy, especially former owner Joe. But it’ll be an upgrade in every aspect, from talent, to creative, production and advertising. I look forward to bringing Asylum Wrestling to ASY TV and to venues all over Colorado. Stay tuned!”

Arena security, which included former Oklahoma referee Donny Brooks, had a big "oops!" moment yesterday on Raw after they tackled American actor Rick Malone in the ring, not knowing he is part of the show as Lana's and Lashley's wedding officiant. The incident occurred after the match between AJ Styles and Akira Tozawa ended. Malone rushed to the ring under the bottom rope and security followed, tackling him and keeping him on the mat. For some reason, the camera angle switched to the hard cam, showing the "ring invasion" and then switched to the ringside camera which turned away to the crowd as the commentary by Vic Joseph came to an abrupt stop. The show then went to break. During the break, a WWE employee is seen rushing in a ringside fan video telling security that Malone was part of the show and that's when they released him. Sure enough, after the commercial break ended, Malone was there in the ring ready for the Lashley and Lana segment, so all he was trying to do was actually get ready for his cue - albeit early - but someone forgot to alert security. Malone noted in a post on Facebook that he was trying to get to the ring for the segment but security prevented him so he had "no other choice but to dive into the ring headfirst," noting that security were "not pleased." But he looked at the bright side of it and joked about what happened, saying, "It was all just a simple misunderstanding!" You can see the videos at here

Quite a few Oklahoma-connected wrestlers appeared as members of No Way Jose’s conga line at the WWE RAW broadcast in Oklahoma City. Amongst those members were Flex Zerba, Damon Windsor, Doc Black, Prince Mahalli, Niles Plonk, Belvedere, Urn Stoke, Latrell Upton, Erica, Killista and Skylar Slice

All Elite Wrestling paid tribute to the legends of Memphis Wrestling Wednesday during Dynamite at the Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi. Those being honored were Angelo Poffo, Randy Savage, Lance Russell, Eddie and Tommy Gilbert, Brian Christopher, Austin Idol, Dave Brown, The Rock-N-Roll Express, and "Handsome" Jimmy Valiant. Doug Gilbert, Shane Russell (Lance's son), Lanny Poffo, The Rock-N-Roll Express, Austin Idol and Jimmy Valiant all appeared on the live broadcast while Dave Brown had a guest spot on the commentary table for AEW Dark.

The first Monday Night Raw of 2020 saw an average 2,390,000 viewers this week, down 40,000 viewers from last week’s broadcast, which featured the Lana-Lashley wedding. The first hour drew 2,560,000 viewers, followed by 2,410,000 viewers in the second hour, before dropping to 2,195,000 in the third and final hour. Raw was #1, #2, and #3 in the top 50 cable chart among the 18-49 demographic.

Sammy Guevara and the former Luke Harper appeared at the Corpus Christi IceRays’ Pro Wrestling Night on Friday.

Oklafan is saddened to report the death of Charlie Cook, who passed away January 8. At the time of his death, his age and cause of death were unknown. Cook was a journeyman wrestler, competing in several prominent federations in the Southeastern US. While many of his achievements came in the early 1980s, his time in Oklahoma preceded that as he entered TSW and quickly won the MSW Arkansas Title on March 24, 1979. But he had to relenquish that belt when he was injured. Cook would go on to substitute for Jack Brisco and beat Terry Funk for the Florida Title, a belt he would hold twice. He would also hold the WWC Carribbean Title in 1982. No information is available regarding Cook after that. Cook competed in 9 documented matches in Oklahoma. The earliest was a win over J. J. Dillon in Tulsa on February 19, 1979 for TSW. The last was also a victory over Dillon in Tulsa. Oklafan extends condolences to Cook's family and friends at this time.

Oklafan is saddened to report the death of Pampero Firpo, who passed away January 9 at the age of 89. At the time of this writing, the cause of death was not listed. Firpo, whose real name was Juan Kachmanian, was the son of a boxing promoter and grew up around sports in Argentina. He began wrestling in his home country in 1953, but moved to the United States and became a star in Texas under the name Ivan the Terrible. He would use this name until the 1960s and his time in Oklahoma was spent under that identity. His debut in Oklahoma for TSW saw him defeat NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion Angelo Savoldi for the title on February 20, 1959 in Oklahoma City. He lose the title back to Savoldi just a few weeks later, on March 6, 1959 in Oklahoma City. He was also responsible for unmasking The Great Bolo [1st] and revealing him to be Al Lovelock in a match in Tulsa on February 15, 1960. That would prove to be the last of his 11 documented matches in Oklahoma. Firpo, who initially spoke no English, would go on to master 8 languages and develop a promo style that was a heavy influence for Randy Savage. His wrestling style was very proto-Hardcore and he would be a top star in practically every territory he went to, though arguably no more popular than the time he spent in Detroit. All totalled, he wrestled on 5 continents, 21 foreign countries and had 6881 matches. But Firpo considered his greatest accomplishment being able to bring his family to the United States, part of which he was able to do because of working for the US Postal service for over 30 years after retiring from wrestling. He was inducted into the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2018. Oklafan extends condolences to Firpo's family and friends at this time.
