Interview With "Ky-ote" Joe Herell
Posted: Sep 12th 2007 By: CMBurnham
Awhile back before he left for Puerto Rico, Joe Herell and I had a conversation about what he was going to face going there and what the competion was going to be like. Today I want to ask him about his tour there and compare the wrestling there to what we have here.
Big Daddy Jones: Hello Joe, will you tell me about your trip there in Puerto Rico?
Ky-ote: First of all Mr. Jones, I want to be known as Ky-ote. That was how I was addressed in Puerto Rico.
BDJ: Sure Ky-ote, tell me about your matches there.
Ky-ote: There wasn't any real competition for me there. I didn't get to meet anything that I could not handle.
BDJ: How is wrestling there compared to our wrestling here?
Ky-ote: Well, for one thing they are more of a strict outlaw mentality. You can get away with a lot of things that would never be allowed here in the states.
BDJ: Gee, that would be right up your alley, you are the UWF06 Violent Division champion. You are considered a hardcore baby face aren't you.?
Ky-ote: A what? I don't consider myself anything. I will go in there and scrap with anybody. Having wrestled in Puerto Rico, I was accepted as a heel and having wrestled in Oklahoma City, there they saw that I would take no crap from anybody. So I am different things to all people.
BDJ: You know, years ago, I saw a young Jay Strongbow, and in a number of ways you kind of remind me of him. I know that you have been trained by the crown prince of crimson, Al Farat. A man known for his trickery, devious ways and his win-at-all-costs mentality. How do you feel about his ideas to win?
Ky-ote: (laugh) I am not sure how to answer that question. However, I find that what he has taught has made me much more able to handle the tough guys that I am to face. The "heels" are people too and being hard core just gives me an edge when facing them or anyone that comes my way.
BDJ: Where does Ky-ote go from here? I mean what is next for you, what are your goals?
Ky-ote: You know, my goal is to go all the way to the top. To take the heavyweight title in the Universal Wrestling Federation. Furthermore, I am looking into other federations as well.
BDJ: I see that you are on the card in Arkansas. You were well recieved in Puerto Rico, are you planning on returning any time soon there?
Ky-ote: Yeah. And I am on the card September 22nd in Oklahoma City.
BDJ: I am sure that your mentor, Al Farat has been a big influence in your life, do you have others that you can tell us that also has been an influence to you?
Ky-ote: Yeah, A. J. Styles and Sabu have been influences in wresting. I sort of like to combine their styles. My parents were the biggest influence in my life though. They told me that I could do anything in life if I would just put my mind to it. There were those in my life that told me that I would never amount to anything, well, I have shown them and most of all, I have proven it to myself. I have released the beast from within, confronting all comers.
BDJ: Indeed, so far you have. Thank you Ky-ote for your time.
My observation is that Ky-ote is tough and has a real future in the squared circle. Hard work and dedication coupled with a bit of luck will see him go a long ways.
This has been Big Daddy Jones, on the beat...
