IHWE Sits Down With Kevin Von Erich!

Posted: Nov 22nd 2013 By: CMBurnham

IHWE Began the Texas Wrestling Hall of Fame as a way to honor the lineage of Texas Wrestling, It's a ceremony that was not made for profit, It was made for the Men & Women who gave the fans so many years.

A Huge Part of Texas Wrestling is The contributions of World Class Championship Wrestling & The legendary Von Erich Family. Fans around the world will always have a place in there heart for the dynasty that the family created, bringing wrestling in this territory to worldwide heights.

IHWE was honored to sit down with WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Von Erich & asked him about some memories with some Members of the Texas Wrestling Hall of Fame, here it is.

IHWE-Kevin, Thank for you joining us.

Question 1-Skandar Akbar is a legend here, You had so many years with Akbar, Can you tell the fans about what Jim Wehba (Akbar) meant to you?

A-That guy was so well read, he knew so much about everything, he knew football, history, science, He was fun to talk to, Brillant guy, You really dont think about how smart some of these guys were. Nice guy.

Question 2-Bruiser Brody was as bad as they came in Wrestling, Share some memories of wrestling with Frank Goodish & Against Him?

He was a guy, I owe a lot to him, we were like brothers, he was like 1 of us, We had tags with him, and against him, Thats when I realized this was a tough business, We had some hard hitting tough matches, He was a friend forever after that. We left it all out in the ring, It was good to wake up sore, He was one of those guys, who's image is what it was, he never lost his temper, Brody was always cool. Comes with confidence & experience.

Question 3-Terry Bam Bam Gordy will be most remembered for his run with the Freebirds against you & your brothers, but Terry also had runs in Japan with Steve Williams & a singles run as Bill Watts UWF Champion, How good was Terry Gordy in the ring?

He was as good as they get, Terry Gordy was not only gifted on the mic, he could talk, he could project that big monster, he also had the tools, the size, strength, he had the work ethic, he put 100 percent into his matches, Michaels' talk & Terry Gordy's work was fantastic. He went to Japan & made a huge name for himself. Puerto Rico as well. Almost everywhere we worked, everyone ate them up, They had the gift. The it factor.

Question 4-Maniac Matt Borne, What are some of your favorite memories with Matt?

Matt was a heck of a guy, loved to fight, always ready to go, Loved a fist fight, For sport. He enjoyed a fight as a sport, We respected each other, I always liked Matt, What a good guy he was, always ready, always felt good, what a good guy he was, Him & Buzz Sawyer, they were a great tag team. Hard Living guys, very good athletes. We had a celebrity deal down here, We had a track meet, They picked 4 of us to run a relay, Me Tommy Roders Matt Borne were a team, I started it off, We were looking good & I thought Rogers would be the fastest, Matt got the stick, and Matt took off.

Question 5-What advice would you give to the younger generation of Talent working today?

A-We tried to always, to be respectful to elders & children, Never hit a girl, don't talk dirty around ladies, That's the way to be, It really makes you stand out, Respect your elders, respect ladies, Say yes sir & no sir. Fight Fair like men if need be, Shake hands after. As far as the younger wrestlers go, Just like anything in the world, pur your guts into it, Work out, stay in shape, work on your agility, just like football, Good quick reflexes, Balance, You can never work out to much, You need to work out where you can, Don't get into the easy way, Long as you give 100 percent, all things are possible. If you don't have god, I wouldn't be anywhere.

Question 6-Do you have anything you would like to say to your fans in Texas?

A-Im a texan, I wasn't born here, but I lived most of my life in Texas, Good people, Good family people, Football coaches in Texas know how to make you a man, Young kids join the football team, If your not big enough, Do something with your life, get outside & do things, Youth is on it's way out. Don't Stop Running. To my older fans Thank you so much for remembering me & not forgetting me, I can't tell you how much it means to me that you remember me. When the book & film comes out, I hope I can do Texas Justice, I love Texas & Always will.
