When Boyd Bradford Speaks, People Listen. Ya Understand?

When Boyd Bradford Speaks, People Listen. Ya Understand?

Posted: Sep 14th 2013 By: mikeiles

I recently had the opportunity to ask one of the best managers in wrestling today a few questions. Even though he'll probably sic Roosevelt the Dog on me for saying this Boyd Bradford is a throwback to a bygone era. As you'll hear from Boyd himself, he's a manager much in the same style as Bobby "the Brain" Heenan or Jimmy Hart.
In an era of wrestling where wrestling managers seem to be frowned upon by companies like the WWE, Boyd is thriving in TCW. His stable of the Bradford Family is dominating TCW right now, holding the Tag Team Titles and engaged in a brutal best of seven series for the Junior Heavyweight Championship. I'll let the man himself tell you about the men he manages.
Does Boyd use questionable methods when he guides his wrestlers to victory? Of course but I won't be saying too much bad about him today because as you'll see he's already put me in my place a couple of times. Plus, Cerebrus is a lot bigger than me, Kincaid could tie me into knots and I really don't wanna be Roosevelt's new chew toy. So I'll sit back and be quiet now and let one of the best mangers in wrestling today tell you just what makes him so great. Ya understand?

Boyd, you're one of a dying breed in wrestling, an old school style manager of a wrestling stable. Who did you look up to in managers as a wrestling fan and who inspired you to get into wrestling? The men who inspired me to become involved in the pro wrestling industry is an endless list. The sport of pro wrestling itself inspired me to become involved, because it is the greatest sport known to man, Ya Understand? I was a competitor long before I managed the most successful & COPIED faction in wrestling today, The Bradford Family, so I know this sport from all sides. I get compared to a lot of managers, Bobby Heenan, who was the best ever, Cornette, Heyman, Gary Hart, etc. But the one manager I would compare myself too is the General Skandar Akbar. The General always managed a group of guys that were not GQ models, but were psychotic, dangerous freaks that would seriously hurt people.
You have a unique character that resembles a gangster from the 1920's. How did you create the character of Boyd Bradford? I am not now, nor have I ever had any involvement or ties with any organization involved with any type of criminal activity, Ya Understand? As far as my character is concerned, I attribute that to my parents. They were both people of fine, moral character.
You have a pretty distinctive voice and laugh, where did you come up with the "voice" of Boyd Bradford (assuming of course, that's not your realvoice. *laugh*)? Are you making fun of my New York accent? That's a good way to get on my bad side, Ya Understand? My accent is as authentic as my rotary phone & my house servant, Rufus.
Sorry. Moving on, your Bradford Family feature wrestlers who stand out from everyone else, some may even classify them as "misfits" yet you've led them all to Championships in one form or another. Out of all these unique individuals, who have you most enjoyed working with? I enjoy guiding the careers of all the men that I manage, otherwise I wouldn't be managing them. I have referred to Kincaid on many occasions as the Best Wrestler in the World. I say this for the simple reason that there are several men that claim to be "The Best" & none of them are even 1/8th as talented as Kincaid. He is now a 3 time TCW Jr. Heavyweight Champion & there ain't noobody in the sport that's man enough to take it from him. The man is near impervious to pain & he conjures up moves on the spot. Then, of course, I have the Hounds of Hell, the TCW Tag Team Champions. There has never been a more vicious and dominating tag team in the history of this sport. That's because there has never been a tag team consisting of Lycans. I've known Roosevelt since he was a pup. He was always a talented wrestler, but he was domesticated. When his brother Cerebrus came along, he taught Roosevelt the ways of their breed. Now, they are an unstoppable force that is bringing Tag Team wrestling back to prominence. And it's long overdue.
During your time in TCW you've also worked with some genuine legends in the wrestling business. Have any of them shared any pearls of wisdom? Any fun stories to tell from meeting any of them? Well, Danny Hodge socked me in the face. That wasn't much fun. Jake "The Snake" Roberts DDT'd me, shoved my fedora down his pants, & confined me to a wheelchair for a month. That wasn't much fun, neither. I very much enjoyed bringing Doink the Clown, Matt Borne into the Bradford Family. Borne added another element of maniacal violence that complimented the Family perfectly when it was myself & Killer Nikels. I will always cherish the fact that Borne's last great run of work was with the Bradford Family in TCW. He was an amazingly talented man. Another legend I have the utmost respect for is Beautiful Bobby Eaton. Bobby is a class act that has been TCW since the beginning.
Is there any moment that stands out in your wrestling career the most? Many moments stand out, some I've already mentioned. Being pushed around in a wheelchair by Doink the Clown, the cooking show I had with Killer Nikels, Kincaid winning his first Jr. heavyweight title in Memphis, putting Jon Michael in a body bad & carrying him out of the arena, HoH defeating the Good Ole Boys for the Tag Team titles, strolling around a graveyard with Nikels trying to find a vampire, hitting Bushwacker Luke with my Flying Elbow Drop & the general destruction caused by the Bradford Family on a weekly basis are all highlights. You can witness them all, and many more by checking out the TCW Wrestling archives on YouTube @ TCWWrestlingOnline. You can view 2 years worth of TV, and witness the evolution of the greatest wrestling promotion going today TCW.

With that comment, I ended the interview, politely excused myself and got the heck out of there. If you're wondering why I didn't ask any more questions imagine yourself sitting in a very dark room with only one small light hanging high above me. While Mr. badford was talking Kincaid was looking at me the entire time. He had a look in his eyes that said he hadn't eaten in weeks and he was hungry NOW! Then there were the scratching sounds. So yea, I got out as quickly as possible.
I would like to thank Mr. Bradford for taking time out of his busy schedule of completely taking over TCW to answer a few questions from me. He is a great manager and one part of a truly awesome wrestling company. I hope you will all join me in watching TCW the next time the Bradford Family distributes their unique brand of chaos and destruction. I'll be watching from safely behind the guardrail, hoping Boyd doesn't recognize me when he sees me. Thanks for reading.
