J.W.'s Dirty-Dozen Question Interview (Tim Rockwell Edition)
Posted: Oct 20th 2008 By: mikeiles
Being one of the hardest assignments I've had in my short wrestling journalist career, the MWA higher-ups had me catch up with MWA heavyweight champion, "Terrific" Tim Rockwell, after his October 10 match with Blake Albright. Though he was more cordial than I expected, it is still an assignment I don't wish to repeat.
J.W. McGillicutty:Last year, you were named Oklafan?s #1 wrestler, and there were some that thought you weren?t deserving. After the first of the year, it seemed like they might be right, but you?ve rallied in the second half of the year to be on track to be Oklafan?s #1 wrestler again. How do you compare the Tim Rockwell from the first half of the year, to the Tim Rockwell from this second half of the year?
Tim Rockwell: Well J-Dubb, the first half of the year, I gave the fans what they wanted. I got nothing in return. No title shots nothing. So, I decided to do what I do best...go back to my old routes, and that got me 3 different Championships. (this year)
JWM: You?ve been an accomplished wrestler for a little while now, however, you had never been able to win the top singles title in any federation until you won the MWA heavyweight title. What was the thing that elevated you to that new level?
TR: Well I figured Bernie and I did the tag team thing and rocked the tag divsion. I just recently rocked the X-Divsion [in Compound] and I'm not an X-Divsion guy. I've held the Oklahoma Herritage Title in another fed [Tornado Alley Pro] for 6 months now. So, the only thing left was to win the big one. And where I came from you have to crawl before you walk, I think I've done enough crawling!
JWM: Had Blake Albright not gotten pummeled by Jack Legacy and Michael Barry, and if Barry hadn?t interfered in the finals match, do you think Albright would have been the first MWA champion?
TR: Impossible, I'm unbeatable. Blake is NOTHING like his older brother, Brent. NOTHING!!!! I could beat Blake on any given Friday.
JWM: At the October 10 show, he challenged you for the MWA title, and some say you were seconds away from tapping out, had the time limit not expired. Do you feel Blake Albright has Tim Rockwell?s number?
TR: He sure the hell isn't number 1! Is he J-Dubb? Blake will never have my number, I was never going to TAP out. I was actually getting ready to reverse that move, until the bell rang, and once again Blake was saved by the bell!
JWM: Getting back to Michael Barry and Jack Legacy, is there a stable forming with you three men, and why did you choose Michael Barry after he defeated your uncle and former tag-team partner, Bernard Funk, in the opening round?
TR: I have no idea what you're talking about. All Stevie did was ask Michael Barry if he wanted to make some money. He said yes. He came down to ring side to see a great match, got a little thirsty, saw that I was about to win, choked on some water, and it accidently landed in Blake's face! No harm, no foul. Now for Uncle Bernie, he can handle his own. He's now living in Las Vegas, he'll someday be back in Texas!
JWM: Are there any hard feelings between you and your uncle Bernard, now? Also, does this put a permanent end to Texas, Inc., one of the greatest tag teams in Oklahoma wrestling history?
TR: Texas, Inc. will never be finished. We were the greatest tag team to hit Oklahoma. There's no hard feelings between family. He just has a problem with wanting to win a lot of money at this time.
JWM: Let?s do a Tim Rockwell comparison to other Oklahoma stars when they were in their prime (or currently in their prime):
JWM: Rockwell compared to Chief Red Eagle:
TR: He was once a Texas, Outlaw. And well, I'm the pride of the lone star state!
JWM: Rockwell compared to Anthony Jackson:
TR: Thats a hard one. Its hard to compare yourself to All Action, but I'd say now that he's retired, the torch has been passed! Stevie now can do 20 min promo's!
JWM: Rockwell compared to Al Farat:
TR: We both love cheap heat. We're both dominant in this state! Lets just keep it at that!
JWM: Rockwell compared to Rocco Valentino:
TR: Oklahoma Legend. Texas Legend. Triple-crown champion. Triple-crown champion. Hated by many, loved by few.
JWM: Finally, Rockwell compared to Brent Albright,
TR: Blake Albright?s older brother?! Why would you compare me to an Albright?! I'm a Rockwell! I have more class than an Albright! I'm the MWA Champion! What are they?!
JWM: Going back to earlier this year, you and your manager, Big Stevie Caballero, had some problems. Can you elaborate on those problems? Also, what healed the wounds, so to speak?
TR: You see thats a question that everyone has been asking Stevie and me, and we've never given an anwser. But I'm going to tell you NOW! Stevie and I never had problems. That's what we call playing possum. We set the fans up for a rude awakining. We built them up only to tear them down. Some people say it's harsh. I say, I don't care!
JWM: Is there anyone you haven?t wrestled yet, that you would like to get into the ring with, here in Oklahoma or some of the indy feds in the surrounding states?
TR: I've wrestled a lot of the wrestlers here in Oklahoma, There's a few more guys I'd still like to get a good match with like Seth Allen, Dustin Heritage, Cast-Iron Cothern, Kenny Campbell, Jason Jones, and a few others.
JWM: If something happened and your career got cut short, God forbid, what would be your greatest memory to date, and what would you want people to remember about your career?
TR: How I single-handedly won the MWA Championship! And how my hard work, got me to be the number one wrestler in Oklahoma. No politics. No ass kissing. Pure hard work!
JWM: How would you want people to remember you as a wrestler?
TR: The Pride Of The Lone Star State, that wrestler that was just Terrific!
JWM: Finally, with the level of competition in the MWA, do you think you can hold onto the title for very long? If so, can you do it without help?
TR: You can bet your ass I'm going to hold on to this title, even if I have to take out your precious 3rd generation superstar Max McGuirk! I never need help!
