Interview With Josh Smith
Posted: Sep 23rd 2007 By: CMBurnham
The following is an interview of UWF06 ring announcer Joshua Smith conducted by UWF06 beat writer Big Daddy Jones
Big Daddy Jones- After a one show disappearance Josh, you returened to UWF06 with your own musical fanfare, you were anounced before your entry and then, "what an entry", you came in wearing a beaver top hat. You were a show all your own. What made you decide to do this?
Josh- Well, after being away, I felt that I would need to come back with a flair.
BDJ- You certainly did that.
Josh- Ideas come to me, but I won't use them unless they are right for the show and in good taste.
BDJ- Having observed your workin the ring, your demeanor shows that you must have some experience as an announcer. You are very professional and seem to be comfortable in the the ring.
Josh- Actually, I haven't any experience announcing, in fact my first show was over in the UWF06 warehouse, our first show there.
BDJ- Yeah, I remember that show, I called that place, the cave. Probably what impressed me most was that you were working on an injured foot at the time. I was first told that you had broken an ankle, but later found that it was a severe ankle sprain. What made you go on, weren't you in a lot of pain?
Josh- Oh yes, it hurt, it hurt alot, but I had a job to do, so I just wrapped it up tightly and limped around on it.
BDJ- Wow, what dedication. I didn't notice the limp. Somewhere along the way you had to have had some help to be so profession in the ring, who helped you or where did you learn this?
Josh- I guess that I could say that I owe my ring presence to Howard Finkle for his colorful way of announcing and to Vince McMahon for his flair in his early announcing days. I must also give credit to my brother coaching me as well as my practice before the mirror working to get it right.
BDJ- You have been called Oklahoma's best dressed ring announcer. I must say that you are indeed well dressed. Why go back to the early days of wrestling and dress so well?
Josh- I have always had a natural since of style. I take pride in the way I look and dress. So when I took on the position of ring announcer, I brought back the well dressed ring announcer in that sense.
BDJ- While observing the matches, your work, and the crowd one evening, sitting near some young women and some not so young, I was listening to their comments about you. They were quite interesting. They were unabashed when speaking about your backside and good looks. How does it feel to be a sex symbol here at the UWF06?
Josh- I wouldn't say that I was a sex symbol. I am merely here to do a job and present the real stars, the wrestlers in the show. I am of course, flattered that the ladies feel that I am attractive. I work hard to hone my craft. I want to do a good job and do it professionally.
BDJ- I hear from management that they are impressed with your work and that you are going to be the guest announcer for Mid South (MSW) Arkansas on October 6th. Has other federations contacted you to work for them?
Josh- There have been inquiries as to my availability, but nothing is set in stone. I am afterall the voce of UWF06. I would consider guest appearances for special shows if contacted. I will never say never.
BDJ- So tell me, who is Josh Smith, what makes you tick?
Josh- You can find out about me on my space, in my bio at the UWF06 website or come to the matches. I work a regular job like most everyone else. I sing and then I am a ring announcer. Mostly, I stay busy with my friends and family.
BDJ- Thank you Josh for this interview and the insight into the real you.
I think that Josh Smith is a throw back to the old days of wrestling, but with an added flair as he says. Howard Finkle would have been flattered that he used him as an example and embelished his character. Watch for him to continue to develope and evolve. He was a joy to interview.
Until the next time, this is Big Daddy Jones on the Beat.
