J. W's Dirty Dozen Interview: The Jake Boulder Edition
Posted: May 8th 2010 By: CMBurnham
Maximum Wrestling Alliance star, ?Big Country? Jake Boulder, is a guy that is as real as you can get. In the ring and in front of the fans, he is one of the nicest and truly toughest men a person could ever have the pleasure of meeting (unless it?s an opponent). Away from the ring, he is no different. With success in every wrestling federation he?s ever wrestled in, Jake Boulder is an amazing and talented competitor. As one half of the MWA Tag-Team champions, Old School Express, with partner ?Space Cowboy? Jason Jones, he is continuing to reap success inside the squared circle. I had a chance to sit down and interview Jake with twelve of the toughest questions he has been asked in this special edition of J.W.?s Dirty Dozen-Question Interview.
J.W. McGillicutty: Late last year, it seemed as if you and your tag-team partner, ?Space Cowboy? Jason Jones, weren?t on the same page, and there were rumors circulating that the Old School Express may be pulling into the depot and parking the train for good. However, you?ve managed to remain the MWA tag ?team champions for the past seven months (as of this interview). What has helped maintain that tag-team unity and success.
Jake Boulder: We go back a long ways, and have been traveling a long time together. We are going to have our disagreements, but when it comes down to it, we?re brothers. I was at his wedding, and we have that amazing bond like brothers.
JWM: What are your thoughts into venturing into singles competition and possibly capturing your first singles title here in the MWA?
JB: Right now my main focus is to keep the tag team titles with the Old School Express. But, I have been champion in other states and feds, but right now we?re the tag champions, and we?re gonna keep rolling with that.
JWM: With guys like Michael Barry, Blake Albright, Max McGuirk, Tim Rockwell, Jeff Starchild, and the newest #1 contender, Jack Legacy (as of this interview), do you think you could possibly win the MWA Heavyweight title?
JB: Oh yeah. Michael Barry and I have had our share of matches. He?s beaten me, I?ve beaten him. The same thing goes with Legacy. I can fight or I can wrestle. If I put my focus on winning the heavyweight title, it doesn?t matter who you put in front of me, I would be able to beat them. Bottom line.
JWM: Some people may argue that the best days for Old School Express are gone. How would you respond to that?
JB: I really don?t see that. Every tag team that we?ve fought, we?ve gone through and beaten. We?ve got our hands full with the Foreign Legion, and we?ve got them in a flag match next month. If people think we are down, we?ll surprise them. That?s when we are at our best.
JWM: Having defended the tag titles only twice since winning them, once against Jack Legacy and your new trainee, S.L.U.G.G., do you feel that the Old School Express have brought prestige to the tag-team titles?
JB: Not as much as we would have liked. However, we wrestle whomever the booking committee books us to wrestle. Whether it?s Compound Varsity, Foreign Legion, or Texas, Inc., we?ll fight them. So, I think that brings prestige to the tag-team titles.
JWM: You?ve been in some amazing battles, since coming to the MWA, including two Old-School Butt Whoopin? matches, one of which led to your current title reign with Jones, and a steel cage match. To date, what has been your toughest battle in the MWA.
JB: The first Old School Butt Whoopin? match against the Gentleman Thugs. That match was also geared toward their style, and it was an alley fight. Those guys are hard-hitting, and it was a really tough fight. Those guys put up a tough fight.
JWM: You?ve obviously had to fight Boris Saarikoski in the past. What does ?Big? Stevie Caballero?s newest acquisition, The Luxembourg Beast, do to the tag-team division and the Old School Express?s reign as the champions?
JB: They?re definitely a threat. Boris is a guy that I?ve never seen beaten. The Luxembourg Beast is a real nightmare. He?s a big, tough man. Like I said, when you stack the cards against us, that?s when we are at our best. Don?t ever count the Old School Express out.
JWM: If given the opportunity, who is the one person, while in their prime, would you most like to wrestle and why?
JB: I would say Abdullah the Butcher. I grew up as a kid just literally afraid of him. He was really tough, and he still wrestles to this day. In his prime it would have been my toughest match, but it would have been an honor.
JWM: How about the person you would least like to wrestle?
JB: Probably Sonny Myers (former NWA World Champion), and it may sound weird because he was my trainer. But, when he trained me, he was 78 years old, and he could really whip us and stretch us out. I could only imagine what kind of pain he could inflict in his prime.
JWM: Is there anyone in the Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, or Oklahoma wrestling area that you haven?t wrestled, that you would, in fact, like to wrestle?
JB: That?s a good question, man. Wow. Angel from the Baldies (ECW) because I prefer to wrestle the hardcore style, and it would be a really tough fight, but it would give me a chance to prove myself again. I think I would be able to prove myself in that match.
JWM: If you were to retire from wrestling right now, what would you want the fans to remember most about you?
JB: I guess that every night, I gave 110%, and I wrecked my body and tore it up. I put myself through so much pain, but it was all worth it. For the people to cry when I get hurt or to stand a cheer?the emotion you get out of them. It makes it all worth it.
JWM: Now, let?s do some name association: Michael Barry.
JB: Awesome talent!
JWM: Jason Jones.
JB: Like a brother. I love the guy.
JWM: Shane Morbid.
JB: Double tough.
JWM: Jeff Starchild.
JB: Unlimited potential.
JWM: Jack Legacy.
JB: Knows all the tricks.
JWM: Max McGuirk.
JB: Awesome future in the business.
JWM: Tim Rockwell.
JB: Cagey and dirty.
JWM: Blake Albright.
JB: Stole my woman. Just kidding, just kidding. Super athletic.
JWM: Jake, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule for this interview. On behalf of the MWA and its fans, we do appreciate it.
JB: Oh, thank you. It was a pleasure and an honor
