Brandon Bishop Pays Tribute To Matt Garza

Brandon Bishop Pays Tribute To Matt Garza

Posted: May 29th 2018 By: Brandon BIshop

Matt Garza is a kid I started training to be a pro wrestler back in 2004 I believe, I think he was 19 at the time and he quickly became like a little brother. Always eager to learn in the ring, First to show up and last to leave. Even made it from texas to Colorado for our first couple ACW shows here. For a couple years in Wichita Falls, TX I don’t think more than a couple days passed without hanging out. I’ve never allowed myself to have too many close friends, but somehow Matt broke through that and simply was one of the best pals I’ve ever had. Well things aren’t looking great for him. I woke up to a handful of friends giving me the news that doctors have basically given him hours left to live. His body just shut down... I’m not sure if I can make the trip to see him, or worse case attend a funeral, but time and money won’t hinder me from offering tribute to my friend. It’s impossible to stay in touch with everyone you’ve ever known and loved. I regret that we’ve rarely talked since I’ve moved to Colorado. But we’ve spent too many hours in the ring, at my place, in cars etc. to not have thought about him. I’m honored that he fell in love and married Sharon Garza because of ACW, I’ve always gotten a kick out of that. I loved watching him succeed in the ring, 3X ACW Tag Champ. He had a certain charisma about him that fans latched onto. He was always loyal to me and ACW, and just THERE... sometimes all you can ask of a friend is to just be THERE, and he was. This feels a lot like when I lost my other close friend Beau Rogers from that same time and place. I felt like an asshole because I didn’t stay closer. I miss Beau to this day, I miss all my Texas friends and the whole time ACW ran in Wichita Falls. It was a time of extreme struggle, but certainly a time that I’ll never forget, a time that taught me a thousand lessons and helped me grow. Matt was right by my side through most of it, and for just him being THERE I’ll be forever grateful to my Mexican little brother from another Mexican mother... (inside joke). So I truly hope everyone he knew in ACW, IZW and around the circuit that shared a locker room or a ring with him, if you can, share a little something about Matt. He’s not gone, maybe he’ll get to hear it, and if it’s his time, maybe he’ll leave us with a smile. Love you Matt... I still have hope...
