JR's Blog: The Ross Report Podcast News, JR to Toronto?, More Punk in UFC?, Bravo CWC, Come Home, Paige!
Posted: Sep 16th 2016 By: Jim Ross
One of the great benefits of living in a college town are weeks like this one when my Oklahoma Sooners get set to host powerful, 4th ranked, Ohio State in a nationally televised game on Fox at 6:30 pm CT. Our small city is abuzz and loaded with positive energy and hopefully so will be the newly redesigned stadium during game time Saturday evening. Can't wait to be stationed on the OU sideline and ready to cheer on our team in a legit, 'must win' game so early in our season.
I think that you will enjoy this week's The Ross Report podcast with guests Chavo Guerrero talking Lucha Underground and Bull James aka Bully Dempsey who discusses his time in WWE development, NXT and his plans for the next chapter of his career. Plus, I opine on CM Punk and UFC 203 as well as my Backlash review from bumper to bumper.

Next week ROH Champ @AdamColePro will be my guest for a super sized conversation with ROH's top dog. A new The Ross Report drops every Tuesday night at 9 pm ET. But if you already subscribe for free at iTunes, you already knew that.
We are working diligently to finalize the details for a RINGSIDE with Jim Ross Show in Toronto on Sunday afternoon November 20 just prior to WWE's sold out Survivor Series mega event and at a venue within easy walking distance of the arena. If all the details are finalized, as expected, we hope to have tickets go on sale, and they will be limited, later this month. We are looking forward to hopefully being a part of the big, TO/WWE weekend.
Because of the success that CM Punk brought to UFC 203 and, more importantly, the PPV buys, I don't find it creatively impossible to to see Punk continue training, and be utilized by UFC in another fight, and/or other tv opportunities as he has an audience that will seemingly support his new, MMA endeavors. There is likely additional, new monies in Punk even after his loss as his 'story' can easily be continued on TV.
If the UFC faithful could find a way to embrace Punk to some degree, the U/fc might discover that they have a potentially, excellent broadcaster on their hands.
WWE did a terrific job in launching the development some new, athletically talented stars during their presentation of the Cruiserweight Classic. There is absolutely no reason that these new talents can't 'get over' if they continue to work on improving their game, further developing in ring psychology and are creatively supported to allow them to do what they do best and that is seemingly inside the ring, bell to bell at this time.
The Cruiserweights who can add strong verbal skills to their game will be the one's who will most likely ascend up the cards and be in line for the most earnings. These talents will be valuable additions to Monday Night RAW and their ever challenging, three hour format.
BTW...the TJ Perkins story is tremendous because it's real/authentic and the average Joe can easily identify with many elements of it.
BTW2..how logical and non, eye rolling is it to focus on one's opponent's leg as aggressively and diligently as possible and then ultimately beat said opponent with a leg submission I.E. Perkins's knee bar?
Any athletically oriented, pro wrestling presentation is more long lasting and meaningful IMO than is one steeped with bad acting and illogical creative and, as a rule, Cruiserweights bring a truck load of athleticism to the product.
The CWC on the @WWENetwork was a good example of thinking outside the traditional, WWE box and looking farther down the road and squarely at the 'big picture.'
If the WWE Cruiserweights are perceived as 'stars' from the get go, then there are big days ahead for these deserving and skilled performers.
Good to hear that Paige is returning to work at WWE as she's one of my favorite women athletes in WWE. She's grown up in the wrestling biz and has many organic instincts that can't be easily taught. I hope that she can make her way back and get back to the business of what she came to America to do. She's young and it would be so unfortunate if she had to go elsewhere to work in the biz as WWE offers her much more money and exposure than any one else IMO.
I highly recommend to Paige that she get back in the saddle in WWE and show the other women how it's done and push them to their limits.
Competition inside any pro wrestling locker room is good for business and having multiple talents shooting to be the "top hand," male or female, is ideal in my eyes.
A fresh, New Japan Pro Wrestling show on AXSTV airs this Friday night with @JoshLBarnett and me at 9/8 CT. Yes, I still do pro wrestling play by play and AXSTV is on satellite TV I.E. DirecTV and som cable systems.
