NEWS
The WWE Hall of Fame 2016 ceremony is sold out as the last couple of block of tickets were snapped in no time Friday during the general public sale on Ticketmaster. The pre-sale kicked off two days earlier and the majority of the tickets were gone quickly as well, leaving only a limited number for Friday?s sale. It?s likely that more seats will be added as soon as the set and production areas are figured out completely. So far only Sting has been announced for this year?s Hall of Fame. Just his name alone managed to sell out the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX last year.
There are currently no plans to bring Zeb Colter back to WWE TV, according to F4Wonline.com. Zeb hasn?t been seen since getting dismissed by WWE United States Champion Alberto Del Rio when he ended their MexAmerica stable.
WWE has confirmed that Ric Flair will be in Charlotte?s corner as she defends the WWE Divas Title against Becky Lynch on Sunday. They wrote the following teaser ?Which Diva will be savvy enough to escape with the butterfly-emblazoned title this Sunday? Will Becky make the champion submit to her painful armbar, or will The Nature Boy ensure Charlotte remains the titleholder??
Ric Flair mentioned on his recent ?Wooooo! Nation? podcast with Chris Jericho that Vince McMahon wants Shawn Michaels to come out of retirement to work the 30-man Royal Rumble main event this Sunday. Flair said, ?They [WWE] want him so bad for Royal Rumble, but he ain?t budging from that ranch down there in Texas.? Shawn retired back in 2010 and has been adamant about staying retired. No word yet on how much money WWE has offered Shawn but a return to the ring is unlikely.
Ric Flair was on Dan LeBetard?s ESPN show (47:00 minute mark) promoting an upcoming Comic-Con appearance. He talked about a lot about his robes (he said his ex-wives stole 40 or so, claiming they were gifts and said that he sold some to WWE and a belt for $100,000) and a lot of history.
WhatCulture caught up with A. J. Styles at the 5 Star Wrestling event in Newcastle, England this past Wednesday night in a video you can see by clicking here. After mentioning the recent WWE website article on The Bullet Club and Shinsuke Nakamura, Styles was asked if he would be open for bookings on January 24th, which is the night of WWE's "Royal Rumble" pay-per-view. He replied with a ?sure.? Styles talks about WWE and NXT around the 6:30 mark. Styles was also asked if he were to go to WWE and join NXT, which opponents he might want to work with. He replied, ?You ask that question already knowing the answer. That?s funny, you know? Finn Balor is one most people would like to see me wrestle. Prince Devitt if you will, from New Japan Pro Wrestling. And the guy?s very talented. Samoa Joe?s in NXT, I would do that all over again. There?s definitely up and coming guys I?d love to work with but there?s also guys I haven?t worked with in TNA and WWE. There?s a lot of guys I haven?t worked with. Hopefully I?ll get to wrestle them before its over. Great things are happening, crazy things in my life. I have a 1 year old daughter? I?ve got to add another tattoo and I don?t have a place to put it. It?s the crazy life of A. J. Styles but it?s a good one.? When asked what?s next for A. J. Styles, he said, ?I love what I do. I?m going to do what I do, best I think. I?m definitely not an artist but I can paint with the wrestling brush. I think I got some kind of thing going on with that. And I?m going to keep doing that as long as I can. Keep in mind, still gonna be able to walk away from this business. Will I have surgeries? Of course I will because I?m going to get old and I?ve hurt myself but that?s just the nature of the beast. I wouldn?t change a thing.? As noted via The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, at one point WWE wanted to bring Styles in as a surprise entrant in the 30-man "Royal Rumble" main event but those plans may have changed once the news got out that the four from NJPW were coming in.
A. J. Styles teased an appearance at the "Royal Rumble" during Saturday night?s packed Revolution Pro Wrestling show in the United Kingdom after his match against Zack Sabre, a match with Styles lost and dropped the company?s title. ?If I?m not recovering from some weird armbar submission and there?s a spot in the Royal Rumble?? Styles said, getting interrupted by ?Yes! Yes! Yes!? and ?You deserve it? chants? ?I don?t deserve it, I don?t deserve you, but I tell you, you put me in that Royal Rumble and I?m gonna kick some ass for you guys,? Styles continued to a massive ovation. Styles noted that he doesn?t have a job there, referring to the fact that no contract has been signed yet with WWE. He along with Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson are rumored to be on the way to the company. You can see Styles? promo after the match by clicking here.
Ring of Honor is advertising A. J. Styles? appearance this Saturday in Duluth, GA as his last ROH appearance, adding more speculation that Styles will be debuting during either at WWE's "Royal Rumble" or the following night on "WWE Monday Night RAW". The ROH website reads ?In addition to the hard-hitting, fast-paced professional wrestling that only ROH showcases, fans in Duluth with have an opportunity to send off ROH Legend and hometown star ?The Phenomenal One? A. J. Styles.? The former ROH and TNA champion will be singing autographs and posing for photos at ROH's "Winter Warriors Tour" at the Infinite Energy Center on Sugarloaf Parkway. Styles will not be wrestling during the show however.
Ring of Honor has announced that A. J. Styles will make his final appearance for them on Saturday night in the Atlanta, GA area, the night before WWE?s "Royal Rumble" pay-per-view in nearby Orlando, FL. There?s been a lot of speculation about A. J. being in the Royal Rumble match and at one point WWE wanted to debut him as a surprise entrant, but it?s still unknown if Styles has completed the required medical testing that has to be done before he signs a deal.
TNA reportedly made a big play for A. J. Styles to return to "Impact Wrestling" on their Pop TV premiere earlier this month but the two sides were obviously unable to agree on terms.
Bobby Eaton attended the Ring of Honor event in Collinsville, IL on Saturday night.

It was finally confirmed this morning that Jim Ross has signed a deal with AXS TV to do voice over play-by-play for New Japan Pro Wrestling starting in March. Ross takes over for Mauro Ranallo, now the host of "WWE Thursday Night SmackDown!" and will work Josh Barnett beginning on the show airing March 4th.
FOX Sports has confirmed that Jim Ross has signed on to call New Japan Pro Wrestling matches for AXS TV. J. R. will work alongside Josh Barnett beginning March 4th at 9pm Eastern. That episode will feature matches from the "Wrestling Dontaku 2015" event and it was noted that Ross is doing the voice-over work from Los Angeles, CA. Ross commented on working with AXS and NJPW saying "This opportunity to work with AXS TV is attractive on many fronts. The travel won?t be weekly but approximately 8-10 trips to Los Angeles in a year?s time. While there, in a two-day, voice-over session, we will hammer out up to six shows. I?m happy OKC now has non-stop flights to LAX. I?m a big fan of the New Japan product as they have been one if the most highly regarded brands within the genre for decades. New Japan has a unique opportunity with AXS TV to grow their brand in North America. The more fans sample the athleticism, physicality, no-nonsense presentation of NJPW the more they?re going to like it. For me, the New Japan Pro Wrestling business philosophy reminds me of my earlier years in wrestling. I?ve had numerous other offers, some serious and others just flirting to return to TV Wrestling broadcasting but none have had the appeal that AXS TV offered me. We think my style will fit the NJPW in-ring presentation well. We?ll know that conclusively in early March. Plus, AXS TV and I discussed other potential projects outside NJPW.?
The trial of ?Superfly? Jimmy Snuka in Allentown, PA is being delayed as the judge now has to decide if he is mentally fit to stand trial according to The Morning Call newspaper. Snuka?s attorney, Robert J. Kirwan II, told the judge that Snuka does not understand the charges brought against him and doesn?t remember being arrested. Snuka did not recognize his lawyer either. Snuka is recovering from stomach cancer and six years ago was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome and shows signs of dementia as he doesn?t remember his family members? names or where he lives. The Chief Deputy District Attorney said he will challenge the motion brought forward by the defense as Snuka?s mental health issues were brought up earlier during the grand jury process and was deemed fit to stand trial. The 72 year old Snuka is being charged with third degree murder and involuntary manslaughter from a case dating back to 1983 involving his mistress Nancy Argentino.
Jimmy ?Superfly? Snuka will not be going on trial on March 22nd after all. Snuka was scheduled to face involuntary manslaughter and third-degree murder charges in the 1983 death of then-girlfriend Nancy Argentino but the court case was delayed after a hearing last Friday in Lehigh Valley, PA, where Snuka?s lawyers argued that he is not mentally competent to stand trial, according to The Morning Call. The judge ordered Snuka to be tested on his mental competence and the trial has been canceled until the results of his tests are available. The prosecution argued that Snuka is acting, after a career as an entertainer, and that caused the judge to order the testing. The competency hearing is scheduled for March 18th and if Snuka is found mentally competent, he will stand trial at a later date to be decided.

Rancid had hand surgery last Tuesday. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.
Oklafan extends condolences to Tyson Jaymes, who's uncle passed away last week.
Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of "Iron" Mike Sharpe, Jr., who was found dead in his apartment over the weekend. He was 64. Sharpe was a second-generation wrestler, the son of Mike Sharpe, Sr. and nephew of Ben Sharpe. After briefly contemplating a career in boxing, Sharpe began training with Dewey Robertson and made his professional debut in 1977. Sharpe had considerable success at the regional level and was eventually noticed and brought into the WWF in 1983. He was initially managed by Lou Albano and given enough of a push that he earned a WWF World Title match against Bob Backlund. But most fans remember Sharpe as the loud-mouthed preliminary wrestler who so many stars defeated on their way to greater glory. Sharpe's signature black trunks and his leather arm-brace (allegedly supporting an injury that lasted almost his entire WWF career) were weekly sights on WWF TV until Sharpe left in 1995. After leaving the WWF, he opened a training school in Canada, but after it closed, he became something of a recluse. Sharpe was fastidious about training as well as about hygiene, sometimes showering as many as 5 times a day and earning the nickname "Mr. Clean" from some of his fellow locker room competitors. Sharpe has 17 documented matches in Oklahoma. The earliest on February 19, 1979 where he defeated Randy Tyler and the last on March 6, 1987, where he lost to Tom Magee. During his time in Oklahoma, Sharpe captured 3 championships. He defeated Ron Bass for the TSW Brass Knucks Title on March 12, 1979 and held that until he lost it to Angelo Mosca on July 9, 1979. Later that year, he won the MSW Louisiana Title from Mike George on September 5th. Two weeks later, he would defeat George again, this time for the MSW Mississippi title. He would hold the Louisiana Title until January 18, 1980 when Ernie Ladd beat him for it and it would be over 2 and 1/2 years before he regained, on July 6, 1982 from Killer Khan. That second title reign would last a little under 2 months before he lost it to Jim Duggan. As for the MSW Mississippi title, Sharpe would drop it back to George sometime before the end of 1979, but regained it on January 17, 1980 (the day before losing the Louisiana Title to Ladd) and held it until sometime after April, 1980 when he lost it to Bull Ramos.

WWE issued a statement on the passing of "Iron" Mike Sharpe, Jr. It read "WWE is saddened to learn that Michael Sharpe, known to WWE fans as ?Iron? Mike Sharpe, has passed away at age 64. Long before ?Iron? Mike Tyson entered a boxing ring, self-proclaimed ?Canada?s Greatest Athlete? ?Iron? Mike Sharpe was battering opponents in a wrestling ring. A second-generation Superstar whose father and uncle both competed in sports-entertainment, Hamilton, Ontario?s Sharpe was a champion in his native country as well as several regional American territories in the United States. Managed by WWE Hall of Famer Captain Lou Albano, Sharpe used the mysterious (and often loaded) black brace on his right forearm to defeat opponent after opponent while simultaneously berating them. Sharpe?s winning ways were enough to earn him a WWE Championship Match against Champion Bob Backlund in Philadelphia in April 1983, a mere four months after his WWE debut. Like so many others, Sharpe was unsuccessful in defeating Backlund. Sharpe then regularly competed on and off for both WWE and New Japan Pro Wrestling. Sharpe?s final WWE match occurred in 1995 against Billy & Bart, The Smoking Gunns. Following his retirement, Sharpe had a school in Brick, NJ, where he trained many aspiring competitors. His students included former WWE Superstars Charlie Haas and Simon Dean (also known as ECW?s Nova), as well as WCW Superstar Crowbar. WWE extends its condolences to Sharpe?s family, friends and fans.
