NEWS
The Puerto Rico based World Wrestling Council will be holding their 34th anniversary events on July 14th & 15th and the shows are dedicated to Abdullah the Butcher. On July 14th, they will hold a 20 Man Battle Royal with the winner receiving the Bruiser Brody Cup and a shot at the WWC Title.

On WWE 24/7's "Monday Night War" show, they showed the Nitro from 2/10/1997. Some cable and sattelite companies edited out a Kevin Sullivan/Miss Jackie promo where she threatened Woman and Sullivan mentioned they lived together. Also, the Chris Benoit & Steve McMichael vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr. & Jeff Jarrett match was also edited out as well as a post match Horsemen interview.

The day WWE received word that Chris Benoit was found dead in his home along with his wife and son, WWE was in Corpus Christi, TX getting ready for a three hour RAW special focusing on the funeral of Mr. McMahon. A "Daniel Beck? was scheduled to arrest Linda McMahon on the show. Linda would be deemed a murder suspect. All the wrestlers were told to bring black suits for the ?funeral.? As they were scripting eulogies, the sheriff?s office called around 4PM to inform the company that Benoit and his family was dead. In weird irony, the RAW set was already decorated with a casket and a hearse. WWE booked a choir for the funeral, and flowers and wreaths were being loaded into the arena. WWE was also setting up memorial candles and photos of Vince. Ted DiBiase was brought in for a cameo for the funeral. DiBiase helped to counsel people, many were described as basket caskets.

"J. R.'s Family Bar-B-Que" owned by WWE's Jim Ross opens on July 11th just off I-35 and Main Street in Norman.

A BBC interview column on BBC Sport with rugby star Jon Wilkin talked about his fondness for pro wrestling, particularly Ric Flair.

In a television interview with channel 13 in Memphis, TN, Jerry Lawler actually said that steroid use in wrestling is rare. Whatever. The King may have never done steroids himself, but saying that only shows he can lie with the best of them. One of the reasons wrestling will always have problems is because so many of the people in wrestling deny even the most obvious problems

Frank Gaddy sent word that John Bradshaw Layfield recently donated the funds to completely cover the cost of new admissions building to Safari's Animal Sanctuary in Broken Arrow. Layfield has frequented Safari's on several occassions when in Tulsa, along with other WWE Superstars.

Cody Runnels, son of Dusty Rhodes who recently appeared on WWE Smackdown, won the Ohio Valley Wrestling Television Title on July 6th in Louisville, KY by defeating Sean Spears.

Former Tulsa Driller and current first baseman for the Cleveland Indians Travis Hafner did a Cox commercial wearing an ECW t-shirt. Hafner is a known WWE fan.

Sean Hannity announced in the last five minutes of his show on Monday (July 2nd) that "Unforeseen Technical Problems In Studio" prevented The Warrior from appearing on the show. They instead focused on Debra Marshall (former wife of Steve Austin), Mark Fuhrman (from the O. J. Simpson fiasco), and Dr. Badin (made famous by the HBO series "Autopsy").

Matt Morgan was backstage at the TNA TV tapings on July 2nd. This is the 3rd taping he has attended at the request of TNA. It is rumored at this point that Dutch Mantel and Jeff Jarrett have big plans for the 7 feet tall "Blue Print" as he was known in OVW. It should be noted that Jim Cornette historically a huge fan of Morgan's work and even went as far as to take him under his wing during his time in OVW. It should also be noted that Cornette managed Morgan at the Christian Wrestling Entertainment event held in Tulsa in October 2005.

The Toronto nightclub magazine "Rage" has a three page story on the Von Erich family.

Saturday's "Rocky Mountain News" has the state of Colorado's all-time team based on player numbers, such as No. 7 being John Elway of the Denver Broncos, which was an easy one. They listed the best No. 63 in state history as Leon White, four-year letterman as an offensive lineman at the University of Colorado and went on to a career as a pro wrestler (Big Van Vader).

The movie "My Super Sweet 16," which Roddy Piper is one of the lead characters in, playing the father of a spoiled 16-year-old son, comes out Tuesday on DVD.

There is a story on the Waterloo, IA based Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame inductions on Saturday Night at the Dan Gable Wrestling Museum. They noted Baron Von Raschke, Gable, Rich Folkers, Danny Hodge, Ron Stander and others will be playing in a celebrity golf tournament. It said every year, Hodge squashes an apple before playing the first hole. Harley Race will be promoting a show Friday night in Waterloo featuring Steve Williams, Joe Hennig, Ted DiBiase Jr. and Trevor Murdoch, plus signing autographs at the show will be Hodge, Dick Beyer, Larry Hennig, Brad Rheingans, Red Bastien, Gene LeBell, Bob Geigel, Tom Drake, Mad Dog Vachon, Nikita Koloff and Gerald Brisco.

Former World Class announcer and long-time North Texas State journalism teacher Bill Mercer is releasing a book in a few weeks called "Play-by-Play Tales from a Sports Broadcasting Insider." In noted he began his sports broadcasting career in the 50s as he voice of local pro wrestling.

Texas Promoter Devin Storm (www.MySpace.com/Devin_Storm) did a Independent Wrestlers Top 100 Male Wrestlers, Top 25 Tag Teams, Top 25 Female Wrestlers, and Top 25 Managers/Valets as voted by the fans and people of MySpace, he allowed people to add him as a friend or simply send him an email message giving there picks, he tallied the voted up on July 1st and these were his final lists. Unfortunately no Oklahoma based female wrestlers made the list. The popularity seemed to play more to Independent wrestlers in Texas (simply because of the promoters booking area I am sure) but there are multiple wrestlers from across the globe in this list, either way this is an interesting list nonetheless.
