JR's Blog: Friday Blog..Corino Rocking Ross Report..NXT Takeover, OU-Texas, Order JR's Online for Fast, Home Delivery, William Regal, Sara Del Ray, Dusty Rhodes, James Storm
Posted: Oct 10th 2015 By: Jim Ross
Greetings all! One of my favorite weekends of the year is upon us as it's the 110th meeting of my Oklahoma Sooners vs. the Texass Longhorns in the historic Cotton Bowl in Dallas before 93,000+ fans. Games like this are the reason that I don't take bookings during football season that often. A man's got to his his priorities and after 40 years on the road, I'd like to think that I've earned this opportunity. Nonetheless, it will be a fun time including dinner tonight at Pappas BBQ in Dallas with my friends from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
ROH's Steve Corino @KINGCorino rocking the Ross Report this week at podcastone.com, iTunes and right here on the site's home page. Funny stuff, great stories about Dusty Rhodes, Japanese travel and wrestling, ROH's growth and future and so much more. Steve is a great guest and I hope that you check out our show....it's a FREE download.
www.wweshop.com and www.americansoda.co.uk the North American and the UK, Ireland and Europe respectively offer rapid shipping for home or business delivery of JR's delicious products. Great in the kitchen or the grill and our family's products also make wonderful holiday gifts and stocking suffers.
Great get by WWE to swoop up James Storm @JamesStormBrand as he debuted at NXT Thursday night in Orlando. James is a top hand who can work on any roster against any opponent and most importantly can teach, coach and mentor the pups. I'd love to see WWE hire Bobby Rood too as he's a modern day Arn Anderson, high praise, and can do the same, positive things that the Cowboy can do. If NXT is going to become WWE's third, touring brand then adding guys like Storm and Rood makes a ton of sense. James was my guest in Knoxville at RINGSIDE w/ Jim Ross Show and we discussed his possible tenure in WWE if an offer can through. I'm happy that it did.
NXT Takeover Thoughts:
An outstanding show on all fronts. Production values and the 'look' of the show typical, WWE standards which is always stellar. Solid, logical booking and a fundamentally sound, logical in ring presentation which was refreshing. The matches had the time to develop and how good is it to not have matches be interrupted by commercials? Plus, the show was a manageable two hours which is audience friendly.
I watched a load of pro wrestling on TV this week and for my BBQ Sauce/money the NXT Takeover Special was the best TV show of the week from any company.
Enjoyed the commentary on NXT. I'm cursed in that I likely listen to closely to the announcing and if I have any critiques they are often times misconstrued as me being bitter and/or angry which isn't true whatsoever but I thought the trio did a very solid job. I could tell they were grinding it out through the 30 minute Ironman Match which was likely the longest match any of them have ever done especially on live TV. They were well prepared and remembered that they were on TV, spoke in sound bytes and generally stayed on what I was seeing in the ring which lessens the viewer the opportunity to 'check out' and detach from any emotional investment into the presentation.
Sasha Banks is amazing in that she feels like a heel and enjoys finding and refining the nuances of being a pro wrestling villain. She wants to be disliked and not be perceived as cool. Bailey is the likeable, girl next door who has improved immensely since she first arrived at NXT. That's what hard work and a burning desire to be the best at what one does will do for anyone.
Enough credit can't be given to the @WWENXT staff for the work that they all do especially @RealKingRegal and Sara Del Ray. Regal has scouted and helped bring in many talents to the program and has a keen, educated eye for talent. Sara has been the driving force behind the development of the NXT women. She's an extraordinary asset to WWE.
Nice touch with the Dusty Rhodes tag team tourney. Dream was so proud of the NXT 'kids' as he called them. Finn Balor and Samoa Joe are ready for big things and I feel that Baron Corbin, among a handful of others, including Jason Jordan, a can't miss IMO, and Chad Gable are right there too.
Asuka is a player. Can't wait to see how she is utilized in the future.
Apollo Crews, good addition BTW, vs Lance Storm trainee Tyler Breeze, an underrated kid, worked for me.
Smart utilization of Rhyno in NXT as he has solid matches and can help the younger guys as one can't get better unless they work with people better than them as often as possible.

In your honor I will eat one, Fletcher's Corn Dog for you at the State Fair of Texas on Saturday. Just don't tell my wife or cardiologist.
