Mark Henry recently spoke with the United Kingdom's The Mirror to promote WWE's new Attitude Era book. When asked about his time working with Mae Young, he said "I enjoyed my time working with Mae Young, she was one of the coolest, most respected people that I ever met in the industry. We both gave each other?s characters life and that is something that is hard for people to understand. There are thousands of wrestlers and there are thousands of really good ones, but to be able to join somebody that kind of fell off the map and both of you rise to the top of the card because of chemistry, and that last for not a week or two, but for a year, and here we are 16 years later still talking about it, it?s impressive. It?s unbelievable." To read the entire interview, click here.

Oklafan extends condolences to the family and friends of "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, who passed away June 11th due to natural causes. He was 69 years old. Rhodes, whose real name was Virgil Riley Runnels, Jr., was the son of a plumber and initially aspired to be a baseball player. But after meeting Gary Hart, the doors were opened for Rhodes to enter pro wrestling. Hart would give Dusty his name, taken from the Andy Griffith movie "Face In The Crowd" and Dusty would spend time in Texas forming his roots, learning from greats like The Kozak Brothers, Yvon Cormier, and The Great Mephisto. The first big break for Rhodes came in the AWA when he was teamed with Dick Murdoch to form The Texas Outlaws. That team became known as one of the best brawling duos in the country. Dusty would spend 5 years with Murdoch before heading to Florida, again under the tutelage of Gary Hart. It was there that Hart noticed that Dusty, even though he was a heel, was being accepted by the fans and in 1974. Hart and Pak Song turned on Dusty, making him one of the most popular wrestlers in the state and eventually in the world. The list of wrestlers that Rhodes would feud with is too lengthy for this space, but everywhere Rhodes went, he was a main event star. He is remembered for his charisma, his engaging promos, and his position as the hero of the common man. Dusty was a powerful force both inside the ring as well as behind the scenes where he was held a position as writer or booker in the NWA, WCW, and WWE. At the time of his death, he was active in NXT, the developmental league for WWE. Dusty held a massive amount of titles in his career, including the NWA World Heavyweight Title on 3 occasions as well as 3 different versions of the NWA World Tag Team Titles with 3 different partners. He was quite successful on the title front in Oklahoma as well. On April 25, 1971, he defeated Sputnik Monroe for the TSW Brass Knucks Title. One month later, on May 21st, he beat Bill Watts for the TSW North American Title, doubling his gold. He would lose both titles to Watts, the Brass Knucks title on August 23rd and the North American title sometime in October 1971. On Christmas night 1978, Rhodes teamed with Andre the Giant to beat Stan Hansen and Ernie Ladd in a 10 Team Tournament for the vacant TSW United States Tag Team Titles. Andre was unable to stay in the territory, however, and Rhodes was allowed to choose a replacement in the form of The Spoiler, sometime in January. Later that month, on January 25th, The Assassin & The Angel defeated Rhodes & Spoiler for the titles. In total, Rhodes as 37 documented Oklahoma appearances, the earliest being on April 16, 1971 when he lost to George Gaiser in Oklahoma City and his last on September 24, 2005, when he teamed with Vader and Brad Michaels and defeated the Impact, Inc. team of John Zorthos, Bernie Donderwitz & Aaron Neil at an IZW event in Lawton.

The NXT champion Kevin Owens put polka dots on his KO t-shirt as a tribute to the American Dream while Enzo Amore had Hard Times written on the sleeve of his arms, referencing the famous promo by Dusty during his feud with Ric Flair. Triple H, who was present at the show, also posted a video of the crowd chanting ?Thank You Dusty.? Dusty often referred to the talent down at the Performance Center as his ?NXT kids? and was present many times during the week helping the up and coming WWE Superstars and Divas. After his death was announced, many on the NXT roster and those at the Performance Center all tweeted their condolences with one common statement ? that Dusty was their mentor. ?To the @WWENXT Superstars and Divas on the road: go and show #NXTPittsburgh and the world why Dusty called you HIS NXT kids,? Triple H tweeted before the show. Following yesterday?s Pittsburgh trip, the crew now moves to Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio, for the final two shows.

There was a ten-bell salute for Dusty Rhodes, led by William Regal before Thursday night?s WWE NXT live event in Pittsburgh, PA. Triple H posted a video of the fans chanting "DUSTY".

The funeral for Dusty Rhodes will take place on Wednesday, June 17th in Tampa, FL.

On Thursday, Dusty Rhodes ended up being the third most searched item on the Internet with more than 1 million searches, trailing only Christopher Lee and LeBron James. On Twitter on Thursday, the only trends from pro wrestling and/or MMA were Dusty Rhodes (174,000), and Invicta (274). At the beginning of the "Money in the Bank" pay-per-view on Sunday, WWE Superstars, Divas, referees, and other employees paid tribute to the American Dream Dusty Rhodes who sadly passed last week unexpectedly. The bell rang 10 times as everyone stood at the top of the aisle including WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon and fans inside the arena kept total silence in honor of Dusty. Paige, Emma, Summer Rae and Rosa Mendes, who spent a lot of time with the Dream down at the Performance Center, were visibly shaken and cried throughout the 10 bell salute. After the final bell rang, fans clapped and Dusty?s WWE theme song kicked in with everyone inside the arena clapping to the beat. WWE is expected to pay tribute to Dusty Rhodes tonight on Monday Night Raw with several videos playing throughout the show. The company also created a beautiful video tribute set to Phillip Phillips? Raging Fire song and you can see both the tribute video and the tribute from the MITB opening by clicking here.

Goldust posted on Facebook about the death of his father, Dusty Rhodes, "Yesterday my father passed away with his four children, my daughter and his wife of 38 yrs. he was our hero and the greatest father in the world. He is the reason why I am who I am today. He taught me so so many lessons in life. He had 1 thing that he wanted to be and that was he wanted to be forever young. Now he is. Now he is dancing with angels in heaven. He was my mentor, my hero and a dad that I strive to be like. I love you dad. Thank you for all the overwhelmingly amount of love and support. He would have been on cloud 9 with this. Thank you all. Dustin Runnels".

Eden, the wife of Stardust and daughter-in-law of Dusty Rhodes, posted on Twitter "Virgil ?Dusty? Pop to us, passed yesterday of natural causes following a brief illness. His last moments were filled with love and surrounded by his family."

Paul Heyman posted several tweets about the passing of Dusty Rhodes. He posted "I've struggled all day to write something about @WWEDustyRhodes...And yet, hours later, I cannot possibly express my feelings for @WWEDustyRhodes in 140 characters? Not 140. Not 280. Not 420. @WWEDustyRhodes was not someone whose impact should be constrained by a limited number of words or characters. @WWEDustyRhodes embraced my passion to learn about the behind-the-scenes working of the business even before I started performing. @WWEDustyRhodes not only hired me for #SuperStationTBS when I was 23 ? how many TWENTY THREE YEAR OLDS get to play in the big leagues? @WWEDustyRhodes: "f 'em all, kid.Don't ACT like u belong in their locker room. KNOW they should be honored sharing the locker room w/YOU!" I've started on this multi-tweet diatribe, and I know in my heart I'm failing in my task of presenting my own eulogy for @WWEDustyRhodes. I told @SteveAustinBSR on the @WWENetwork the story of @WWEDustyRhodes trying to teach me to ask myself "where's the money" in every promo. @WWEDustyRhodes tried to teach me that in 1988. And now, 27 years later, I'm just starting to truly understand what he was teaching me. I find these "now that he's passed, I have something to say about him" messages to be so self-serving, self-aggrandizing. @WWEDustyRhodes. And ultimately, this message is no different. @WWEDustyRhodes meant so much to so many, and I was/am just one the many. As I am writing this, someone just sent me this clip from the #PaulHeymanDVD about @WWEDustyRhodes ?https://t.co/sWk2S8LcRn. If you have any memories about @WWEDustyRhodes, please feel free to send them over. We'll RT some. We'll post some on the Hustle website. And I promise to read every one of them personally. @WWEDustyRhodes. OK, I've been babbling for a while. I could on for days. And @WWEDustyRhodes DESERVED a several-days-long-eulogy, especially from me. I guess, after all these years, I still need to keep reminding myself to think about the "money statements" and not just AMOUNT of verbiage. Thank you, @WWEDustyRhodes. For all you did for this industry. For all you did for so many. And, selfishly, for all you did for me.

From creative ideas at WCW for ?Lenny Lane and Lodi? to allowing me to ?have the book? at his own wrestling company, TCW, Dream taught me so much. He once joked I was ?getting an education in wrestling that money could never buy.? Today, I realize how right he was. I posted a pic from my wall at home earlier of Dream, Chris Wright and I. As I now sit in my office at work, I noticed the pic posted below that hangs on my office wall at the gym? The word icon gets used a lot in the wrestling world but rest assured that today the wrestling world lost a true icon in Dusty Rhodes....... I had done a show in Florida and after the show I caught ride back with of the employees of the promotion and Dusty Rhodes. As we were going back to the hotel I asked from the back seat: 'Hey guys.....would be cool if we stopped at Burger King and got a burger to eat back at the hotel?' Dusty gave me the half eye glance from the passenger seat and said '*SIGH*...a burger? Meanie. You want a BURGER?! Here I thought you were going for say "hey guys! Can we stop somewhere and get some BEER!"...a BURGER he says'" To which Dusty follows up and uttered the sentence that would have me howling with laughter and forever be burned in my memory when he said....'Blue Meanie.....if Dicky Murdoch was in this car there would be a fist fight right now........a burger...' Needless to say I got my burger. Dusty got his beer........and the next beer I have will be raised in your honor Dusty. I love you and your family. Godspeed my
friend......
-Ted DiBiase: Today the wrestling world lost a great wrestler and an unbelievable entertainer. I lost a good friend. R.I.P. Dusty Rhodes. We took this photo during WWE WrestleMania weekend in March. Dusty, a #WWE Hall of Famer, was a three-time NWA Heavyweight Champion.

Dusty Rhodes death was reported on the front page of the BBC web site. Almost no wrestling deaths ever have gotten that treatment except for Owen Hart, but that mainly due to the circumstances of his death.

Condolences also came from those within the UFC. UFC Director of Marketing Ant Evans tweeted, ?So sad to learn of the passing of The Dream, @WWEDustyRhodes. I really wish this was a Dusty finish. Rest in peace.? Dave Sholler, UFC?s Vice President of Public Relations wrote, ?Wow. RIP to a legend.?

One of Dusty Rhodes? legendary opponents, fellow WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, gave a statement to TMZ Sports after Rhodes was announced dead. The statement was issued through Flair?s agents at Legacy Talent and Entertainment. ?Today I lost one of my greatest opponents and greatest friends. He was the definition of heart and soul and I?m honored to have shared the ring with him countless times,? Flair said. ?He became the ?American Dream? because wrestling needed a hero they could respect, and he was the man for the job. Dusty Rhodes, I will miss you my mentor and friend.? ESPN?s SportsCenter Headlines covered the passing of the American Dream Dusty Rhodes Thursday with a three and a half minute segment which featured a call from ESPN?s own Jonathan Coachman, who is also a former WWE commentator. The Coach, who worked for WWE for 10 years and worked with Rhodes, credited him for helping him throughout his WWE career. He said Rhodes was one of the all time great entertainers in the history of the business and was awesome when it comes to promos. Recounting a behind the scenes story of Rhodes, Coach told Dusty once in front of the whole family that he might be the third best talker in the Rhodes family now thanks to his two sons eclipsing him. The Coach said this while conducting an interview about the legacy of the family and Dusty told him - with Coach imitating his voice - that he will never be three in his own family, in fact he?s number one in the world. The Coach got a lot of flack on Twitter however for the final part of the interview where the anchor asked him if he was a better wrestler or a better talker. ?He was an awful wrestler. He was an entertainer,? Coach said bluntly. He then went on Twitter and wrote, ?I guess you really can't simply reflect on a friend anymore. You all ask us to engage and then the few ruin it for those that actually care.? You can see the full segment by clicking here.
