Big week for yours truly as I head to Baltimore soon for our first ever RINGSIDE w/ Jim Ross Show there this Saturday night May 16 at Rams Head Live with the VIP meet & greets starting at 6pm, doors opening for general admission ticket holders opening at 7 and our show starting at 8. We'll have JR's products available including BBQ Sauce, Chipotle Ketchup, Seasoning and Main Event Mustard. Stock up and pay no shipping. @RamsHeadLive made a few more VIP tickets available and all tickets are available online at ramsheadlive.com or at the venue on Saturday. We have plenty of general admission tickets remaining and they are only $22.50 in advance and $25 dollars the day of the show at the venue. I'm looking forward to bringing our show to one of my favorite cities this Saturday evening.
We're getting great feedback on our Ross Report Podcast that is currently airing with @OfficialTaz as many feel it's one of the funniest and most entertaining shows that we've done. Listen for FREE at podcastone.com, iTunes and on the homepage of this site. Subscribe for FREE at iTunes and never miss a show plus go back and listen to some of the shows you may have missed including my conversation with @RondaRousey, Jim Cornette, Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin and many others.
Next week I will be joined by @MarkMaddenX former WCW broadcaster, "Super Genius" and current Pittsburgh radio icon to review this Sunday's WWE Payback PPV that emanates from Baltimore the night after our show there Saturday night.
RAW Thoughts:
Thought the Cena-Neville match was stout. Lots of good things accomplished in the match most importantly giving the Brit a great 'rub' from WWE's top star. Great example of sound, logical booking that helps all involved.
Solid Daniel Bryan interview where he unfortunately had to relinquish the Intercontinental Title. I'm just guessing here but I would not be surprised if DB didn't have concussion issues but it certainly could be a neck issue as many speculate. I don't know his diagnosis but I do that his health is his most important commodity and if he's essentially done with his career it will be ill timed, as are all career ending injuries, but Daniel Bryan is the type of individual that any wrestling company should want to associate with and he can help WWE in a variety of ways. Hopefully Daniel Bryan can get a clean bill of health to resume his career but he will have to change some of the things he does in the ring whether he likes it or not and embrace the 'less is more' philosophy of in ring, bell to bell activity.
The 'less is more' philosophy, taking unprotected and unconventional bumps, wrestling too fast while taking higher risks and not stopping long enough to sell what has been done, isn't doing any one in the business any favors. It's the current trend within the business that sees very few wrestling holds properly applied in a business with wrestling in its name.
Enjoyed the renewed focus on Dean Ambrose who's been slipping off the radar much like Bray Wyatt. Who gets advanced Sunday when Wyatt faces Ryback? I'd love to be surprised at how this match performs. Both talents are keepers in any event.
Rowan & Harper back together gives Cesaro and Kidd some potentially excellent tag team matches down the road.
I will be back from Baltimore in time to watch Payback from the same city but I don't feel the 'buzz' for the event that one would generally prefer. Perhaps it will overachieve and be a 'sleeper' event. It should not be an enhanced version of Monday Night Raw only with it being on Sunday night instead of Monday.
Thought TNA Impact missed a rare opportunity Friday night on their live broadcast to feature what they do best and that is to wrestle. The show had too much talk for my taste but I also realize that I am not in their target demo. Do today's fans really want long, promo segments where the same thing can be accomplished in a much more succinct fashion? It's the old, 'tell me what time it is and not how to make the watch' theory. I'm still pulling for this group to succeed in a big way.
Check out my 'run in ' on Steve Austin's Tuesday podcast on podcastone.com where he did part 2 of his @TNADixie interview and finished up his show with me. It's always great to talk to Stone Cold who is missed on WWE doing his monthly on interviews on the WWE Network. Nonetheless, that matter could easily be remedied. Everyone wins when Steve Austin is on the WWE Network, IMO.
In today's TV Wrestling marketplace, are disqualifications and/or count outs really necessary at live events? I think not. Most markets are only promoted a minimum amount of times per year and aren't even closely related to the weekly territory philosophy where each week's finishes lead to next week's card. Plus, I don't feel that the vast majority of the live event matches should necessarily feature a 'happy ending' either. That line of ing is really 'old school.'
www.wweshop.com where to score JR's delicious products for grilling season plus the packages make great Father's Day gifts. Many orders are shipped the same day that they are received and WWE Shop ships JR's to the USA and Canada.
Ronda Rousey adorns the cover of Sports Illustrated this week and no matter what is speculated, I still feel she will be in AT&T Stadium next April to be a special attraction at WrestleMania Texas. STill thnk Ronda vesus Stephanie McMahon, and her stacked deck, would make a sensational 'special attraction' and is a creative booker's dream.
The Q&A's elsewhere here on the site are updated.
