Unique and informative Ross Report podcast drops tonight at 9 pm ET on podcastone.com and on iTunes with TWO guests, famed, wrestling artist @RobSchamberger and acclaimed, wrestling author Brian Shields. They have some amazing stories of how they parlayed their passion for pro wrestling into a living without ever stepping into the ring. I really think that you will enjoy their stories and experiences with some of the biggest and most influential names in the business. Now...let's grill....
Talking to Vader today for a future, Ross Report podcast which I'm looking forward to without question.
Working on a HIAC feature for @FoxSports website and plan on talking to Mick Foley later today about it. Without question, it seems that HIAC match in Pittsburgh where Foley took flight has, arguably, become the most memorable match in WWE history. Had a great talk with Mick Foley about his memories of that night and hope to hear from 'Taker if time permits.
Shocked to hear of the release of WWE ring announcer Justin Roberts. I admit that I have no information as to why but Justin was always a professional, polite young man who loved his WWE job and did a great job ring announcing. No one will ever top The Fink but Justin carried himself well, had a great appearance, and seemed reliable. I treat people as they treat me and Justin Roberts always treated me respectfully and as a true professional. I'd guess that the Phoenix native won't have any issues finding work. I wish Justin the best.
With the WWE Network how easy would it be for WWE Superstars and announcers to organically mention what they've watched recently on the WWE Network via Twitter, etc. It would cost nothing and would be a valid testimonial from the WWE stars themselves. Somehow I get the feeling that some on air talents don't watch as much of the Network as many of us civilians.
Happy Birthday to Dangerous Dan Spivey who is 62 today and whose portrayal of Waylon Mercy was one of my all time favorite TV personas ever in WWE. Loved working with Dangerous Dan the Left Handed Man.
Raw Thoughts:
The Atlanta Raw was better than the Brooklyn RAW last week. There was no Hoda/Kathy Lee car wreck and the 'celeb' guests were kept in somewhat harmless, innocuous roles.
Curious as to how many international fans knew what the tomahawk chop and related chant done by the Atlanta Braves fans meant?
Dean Ambrose had a good night. His persona is growing but the constant referring to Ambrose as the "Lunatic Fringe" is borderline overkill. Nonetheless, Ambrose is evolving nicely ever since the spotlight was taken off Roman Reigns due to Reigns surgery.
It may be just me but the commercial breaks in the middle of really nice wrestling bouts is becoming more annoying by the week. When will two segment or more wrestling bouts become a memory and not the norm?
The IC Champion lost another non title bout on TV...by the way so did the US champ...later in the show. As I mentioned is it a blessing or a curse to be one of those two titleholders?
WWE has done a nice job of developing Rusev as a potentially, main event heel but having two 'faces take out one heel including another knockout did not work for me. It felt illogical when I first saw it and it still felt illogical when I went back and watched it again.
Michael Cole's call of the Show vs. Rusev match was really good.
Hopefully the Miz/Sandow tandem stays together as it seems to be working. Sandow is the wildcard in that particular scenario. Hopefully no one in creative grows bored with it and splits the pair a part.
Again, I may be wrong but if WWE wants to distance themselves from "Rasslin" then I'm not sure that 'Pole Matches' need to be on the docket.
In the final tally, I'd like to see Ziggler get on a roll, Cesaro turn 'face and work with Orton, and Sheamus lose the US Title to Rusev and then the Irishman turns heel where he's a natural fit.
Nice mention on RAW for Steve Austin's podcast. Steve is the lead dog when it comes to wrestling people in the podcast world. Interesting announcer banter associated with the mention for Steve.
I'm recording Chael Sonnen's new @PodcastOne podcast today to air soon. Chael should have great success in podcast-land.
Word on the street that WWE may be calling up some NXT talents soon. I hope that there are plans in place to properly introduce them as main event level talents and then a game plan to build them for the next 6 months perhaps leading to something at WM31.
Charlotte is certainly ready for prime time and her presence may help lend more credibility to the Divas group than merely being a promotional vehicle for Total Divas on the E Network.
