Girl Meets World...and Mick Foley

Don't you love those occasional moments when worlds collide on social media? You know, those moments where you see that interaction - a tweet, a facebook message - between two people you like for very different reasons, who seemingly would have nothing in common. I love those moments too - especially the comments that spring forth from them. Comments like "Wow, Mick Foley knows ____? Mind blown!" Well, in my history of mind-blowing interactions, none strikes people as odder, or cuter than my interactions with Danielle Fishel of the iconic coming of age program, "Boy Meets World" - and, as of June 27, the sequel, ‪#‎Disney‬ Channel's "Girl Meets World."

How is this possible, you might ask.How did this mind-blowing friendship begin? Well, back in 1999, I was a guest star on "Boy Meets World", in an episode called "For Love and Apartments". I enjoyed myself thoroughly on the show, was made to feel very much at home, and even exchanged numbers with Danielle - having no idea of the cultural significance of a phone call from Topanga, who a good portion of American teenagers had their first major crush on. So, I kept in touch for a couple years, got her tickets to WWE events in LA a couple times...and then time just kind of marched on, phone numbers changed, lives went different directions, and Daniel and I lost touch.

That might have been the end of the story had Twitter not lent a helping hand! A considerate Foley follower was kind enough to point out a tweet from Danielle where she mentioned that my guest appearance in 1999 was one the cast's favorite episode. I sent her a message thanking her, she sent one back, and BAM! - just like that, for the past four years, this unlikely friendship has been making thousands of people simultaneously go "awww" every time we interact.

After all these years - 15 of them, I finally got a chance to see Danielle again, on the set of her new show ‪#‎GirlMeetsWorld‬. As you can see from the photo, she looks amazing - like time just stopped in 1999 and left her looking exactly the way you knew and loved her. She could not have been nicer or more generous with her time, made me and two friends feel like we were the most important people in the world, and as I walked away from the set, I completely "got" why half the American teen population had their first crush on Topanga.

Since then, I've been watching old ‪#‎BoyMeetsWorld‬ episodes, and have really enjoyed seeing my younger kids get so involved in the trials and tribulations of Corey, Topanga, Mr Feeney and the rest of the BMW cast.There's some great stuff there; so much of the magic, power and awkwardness of the "first love" is mixed in with the laughs and shenanigans. Check out her new show, "Girl Meets World", premiering June 27th on Disney Channel, catch up with the lives of Cory and Topanga as married adults with a child of their own - and fall in love all over again.
