NEWS
TNA had a back up plan in place in case Jeff Jarrett couldn't work the main event at the Lockdown PPV. Jarrett continues to spend time away from TNA with his ailing wife. With Jarrett away, the creative meetings involve Vince Russo, Dutch Mantel, Scott D'Amore, and announcer Mike Tenay.

TNA and Pro Wrestling Guerilla has severed ties meaning that although A. J. Styles and several others were booked for upcoming PWG shows, they will not be appearing.

It has been rumored that A. J. Styles will face Samoa Joe at TNA's "Sacrifice" pay-per-view on May 13th in Orlando, FL.

Jim Cornette worked as the agent for the Jackie Moore vs. Gail Kim and Chris Harris vs. James Storm blindfold matches at Lockdown. Poor guy.

The current story line with the New Breed has not been paced the way it was laid out by writers Dave Lagana and Dusty Rhodes. The eventual CM Punk turn on Elijah Burke was going to be teased for awhile before actually happening.

Although it has been teased on TV that Dusty Rhodes may be replacing Teddy Long as Smackdown GM it appears that Vickie Guerrero will actually be named as Long's replacement.

It has been reported that Mick Foley's Make-a-Wish deal on Raw was only a one time thing. Make-a-Wish approached WWE with an idea of allowing a kid to be involved with the television show.

Mick Foley's "Hardcore Diaries" was number ten in last week's New York Times bestseller list.

On the WWE-Deep South Wrestling front, several things have been reported as of late. WWE had made deals with several buildings for Deep South house shows, but wouldn't subsidize the shows. The Macon Coliseum was a building WWE wanted Deep South to run, but it wasn't cost effective for Jody Hamilton to run. WWE supplied the ring and talent, paid Hamilton a salary and paid a minimum of other costs, but ultimately Deep South was owned and operated by Hamilton. WWE has obviously not pleased that Hamilton made a television deal with Canada's The Fight Network without their permission. WWE doesn't even allow talent to do interviews with the Network.

Ring of Honor announced this past Wednesday that it will debut on pay-per-view, with coverage on the inDemand and the Dish Network (no DirecTV) with taped shows. The first show will air on July 1st, and will be a tape of the May 12th show from the Manhattan Center. There will be taped shows airing every other month with the original contract being for six shows between July 2007 and June 2008. Announced for the show is Takeshi Morishima, Nigel McGuiness, Mark & Jay Briscoe, Bryan Danielson, Deliriuos, Roderick Strong, Davey Richards, B.J. Whitmer, Brent Albright, Erick Stevens and Claudio Castagnoli. This will mean no more TNA talent would be able to appear on at least certain ROH shows that are PPV tapings.

Bill Murdock of Eblen Charities was selected as the first recipient of the Lou Thesz World Heavyweight Championship Award in recognition of meritorious public service by the Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute. The award is given to someone connected with wrestling who has taken the skill, courage and mental toughness that are essentials of wreslting and applied those same characteristics to public service. Murdock, who co-wrote Jack Brisco's autobiography "Brisco," is director of the group in Western North Carolina. Lou and wife Charlie Thesz were involved with Elben Charities for years. Charlie Thesz said, "Lou often said that you judge a wrestler by what's above the neck, not below. In Lou's mind, Bill Murdock was the world champion." Murdock will be awarded on 7/14 at the Hall of Fame inductions in Waterloo, IA

It was announced last week that the NFL's Minnesota Vikings agreed to terms with Georgia Tech defensive tackle Joe Anoai, son of Sika and nephew of Afa, both of The Wild Samoans.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune at www.startribune.com/462/story/1159783.html has a story on a new World War II Memorial that will be dedicated on June 9th. Stan Kowalski, who served in the Navy during the war, and played with Verne Gagne and Leo Nomellini on the University of Minnesota football team and wrestled well into the 70s as The Big K as well as Krusher Kowalski, will be one of the major participants in the opening ceremonies. There was a funny story in the 70s when Russ Francis was a star tight end and was wrestling in the AWA in the off-season and they were doing a story on his wrestling and mentioned him beating "Killer Kowalski" when it was actually Stan.
Killer had a field day, because in those days, top stars guarded their jobs generally only to other top stars and Killer Kowalski made a major fuss and got a retraction.

On April 28th, King Kong Bundy, Bruno Sammartino, and former NWA referee Dick Woherle were inducted into the American Wrestling Federation at their event in Plymouth Meeting, PA

When talking about the Golden State Warriors, Max Kellerman on Friday started playing songs related to Warriors, such as "The Warrior" (by Scandal) and Ultimate Warrior's theme song.

There was an autograph session on Sunday in New York that included, among others, Hulk Hogan, Bruno Sammartino and Ultimate Warrior. Iron Sheik was there and asked to take a photo with Warrior. Reportedly they wound up in an argument and things escalated from there.

This past Saturday's San Diego Union-Tribune has a story on going to Tijuana's Auditorio every Friday for Lucha Libre. The story lists Santo, Mistico, Rey Misterio Jr., Volador Jr. and L.A. Park as the top five babyfaces and Dr. Wagner Jr., Perro Aguayo Jr., Ultimo Guerrero, Cibernetico and Blue Demon Jr. as the top five rudos. Actually Wagner is one of the top faces these days, and Cibernetico is more a babyface than heel although he's kind of tweenerish. It lists the top local wrestlers as Super Astro, Rey Misterio Sr., Rey Jr., Psicosis, Konnan and Medico Asesino, and Mexico's biggest legends as El Santo, Blue Demon, Perro Aguayo, Mil Mascaras, Canek, Rayo de Jalisco and Huracan Ramirez. You can read it at www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20070505/news_lzlc05lucha.html.

Former Tulsa Driller and current Cleveland Indians star Travis Hafner said during a recent interview that he would be interested in wrestling a match or two after his baseball career comes to an end.
