The Scoop

NEWS
For the first time since this last Monday when the WWE announced that The Ultimate Warrior was going in the Hall of Fame, the man himself commented about it on Twitter. ?Predictions, speculation, guesses...even after 18 years one UW power has not diminished at all...His power to fascinate imaginations,? Warrior wrote with the hashtag #WWEHOF at the end. ?First time in my #WWE career everyone is in total, absolute agreement: ?You don't want to miss the #UltimateWarrior #WWEHOF speech.? I agree,? he added, before ending his short comment with a funny statement. "Statement? Sure. First one to try to limit #WWEHOF speech to 140 anything - characters/words/pages/minutes/hours - gets clothesline."
WWE is releasing Ultimate Warrior merchandise as part of their new deal with him that is more extensive than a usual legends contract.
TMZ caught up with Hulk Hogan in New York and asked him about The Ultimate Warrior being inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame. Hogan acted like he didn?t know that WWE announced Warrior?s name and then said, ?Good choice for the Hall of Fame. He?s a good man.? Hogan and Warrior have quite a long and bad history together and Hogan was on the receiving end of a harsh commentary by The Ultimate Warrior a couple of years ago which he delivered via an online video. Warrior often claimed that he was brought into WCW so Hulk Hogan could get his win over him in return for Hogan jobbing for him at WrestleMania VI in Toronto. Hogan got that pinball on Warrior at Halloween Havoc 98 in probably one of the worst matches in professional wrestling history. You can see the TMZ video by clicking here.
Earlier this week, Jake Roberts made the following comment regarding The Ultimate Warrior going into the WWE Hall of Fame, "I know, man! I know that [their careers can't be compared]. But maybe they?re taking in a**holes and not great talent. I don?t know." Warrior responded with "Question for former talents now ?hypocrite? born-again Christians. Where do we go to find you practicing the beliefs of Christianity? Hell? One a-hole instills honor and pride, The other horror and pity. One grows wise on great stories. One reads bathroom stalls and still grovels."
The appearance from Jake Roberts at "Old School RAW" was a one-time deal. That doesn't mean he won't be in the Royal Rumble or the WWE Hall of Fame but no deal has been put in place for either yet. Regarding his return on RAW, Roberts was telling people that the reason Dean Ambrose was smiling when Jake put the snake on him was because the snake defecated on his chest. CM Punk mentioned this to Ambrose and that's why he couldn't help but laugh.
Ted DiBiase has pulled out of the Mid South Wrestling fan fest over WrestleMania weekend because WWE has just booked him for the weekend. A replacement will be announced shortly.
WWE is working on a Paul Heyman DVD. Jim Ross has agreed to participate in it and will be at WWE headquarters in Stamford, CT soon filming for it.
Jim Ross posted on Twitter "Start Podcast One in February. Will drop on Wednesdays I'm told. Going to be very interactive. You ready ?"
Jim Ross announced a new podcast deal with Podcast One, which hosts the Chris Jericho and Steve Austin podcasts.
Jim Ross posted his opinion on Twitter about TNA's most recent eipsode of Impact "Bad acting & too many promos especially those out of eye shot of a live audience are a kiss of death in pro wrestling."
Tommy Dreamer worked as an agent at Thursday's TNA tapings. It was the spot opened up when Jeff Jarrett quit the promotion.
According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has entered into discussions with wrestling icon Sting, who has yet to renew his TNA deal.
Sting's time with TNA Wrestling looks like it's up as well, as the former champion and Hall of Famer is in a title vs career match for next week's Impact television show against current TNA champion Magnus. Sting's one year contract with the company is expiring and if you recall a few years ago he was very close to sign with WWE to take on the Undertaker at WrestleMania. Vignettes were airing to promote the match that looked like they were pointing to Sting but eventually he signed a new deal with the company and all WrestleMania plans fell apart. In later interviews he admitted that he was close to going to WWE for the first time in his career. Sting has been with TNA since 2003 and won the NWA World Title, the TNA World Title on four different occasions, the TNA World Tag Team Titles once with Kurt Angle, and was the first person inducted in the TNA Hall of Fame. He is not being advertised for the upcoming tour of the United Kingdom which will see TNA tape a month worth of Impact tapings overseas. At 54 years of age, this would be probably Sting's final chance to ever make it to WrestleMania. He is the last big name wrestler in recent history who has never stepped foot inside a WWE ring.
Gunner was a recent guest on the "Shining Wizards Podcast" and he spoke about about A. J. Styles, Jeff Jarrett, Hulk Hogan, The future of TNA, Dixie Carter and more. On A. J. Styles leaving TNA: Superstars leave promotions all the time. It doesn?t mean he (AJ) won?t be back. He may have some things going on that he wants to take care of first. All it is, is giving somebody like me the open door to be the new poster child for the company. On Jeff Jarrett leaving TNA: That was kind of out of left field with a lot of us. On a personal level, Jeff helped me a lot also. He was always there for me to ask questions about promos or anything and as far as that, he?s a guy I consider a friend. And on a professional level, I don?t know why he left. Jeff Jarrett is a smart man. He?s a smart business man when it comes to wrestling. He?s been around it his whole life. I wish him luck and hope I get to work with him again someday because he?s always been there for me. Kevin Von Erich has agreed to come to Insane Hardcore Wrestling Entertainment's Texas Hall of Fame induction in 2015 for a Von Erichs induction.
Cowboy Bill Watts has been added to the Mid-South Wrestling Legends Fan Fest on April 4th in Chalmette, LA at the Sigur Centre during WrestleMania weekend.
Superstar Billy Graham, Jimmy Valiant, and Lanny Poffo are scheduled as guests on Wednesday night for a Scott Epstein tribute show on Evan Ginzberg's Legends radio at LegendsRadio.net.
From live reports at Wednesday night's UFC show, Herschel Walker and Ric Flair were the two big celebrities there to those live, bigger than Shaquille O'Neal. Walker was very nice, taking photos with everyone. Flair was kept away from fans. The two sat together and all the fighters and staff seemed really excited both were there. Flair loved the show and was hanging around with the fighters at the hotel the last few nights. Fans were whooing, very audibly, throughout the show, during almost every match. They were going crazy for Walker until Flair arrived. For those wondering why Flair was there, it's because his girlfriend Wendy Barlow lives in Atlanta and he splits time between Central Florida (where daughter Ashley is training) and Atlanta.

Oklafan congratulates Lynx & Terry Montana, whose granddaughter Kalisynn was born Thursday.
Chuck Hinds was involved in an automobile accident just outside the venue for the OWA event Saturday. His vehicle was struck from behind by a truck towing a backhoe. Hinds suffered injuries to his neck and what was reported to be a broken collarbone. Oklafan wishes him a speedy recovery.
Oklafan learned last week that former pro wrestler Luis Martinez passed away back in September at the age of 90. Martinez was a star in The Sheik's promotion in Detroit, Dick the Bruiser's World Wrestling Association in Indiana, the National Wrestling Federation, the National Wrestling Alliance, and right here in Oklahoma in Tri State Wrestling. Somewhat of a tag team specialist before that term was even first coined, Martinez held 6 different regional tag team titles with 6 different partners. He had been confined to a wheelchair and in a nursing home for many years and had no memories of his time as a wrestler. Oklafan has 5 documented matches for Martinez, all in TSW. The first coming on May 2, 1960 when he defeated Jack Donovan in a 2 out of 3 falls match in Tulsa. The last coming on June 6, 1960 when he lost to Jack Donovan in a 2 out of 3 falls match in Tulsa. Oklafan extends its condolences to Martinez's family and friends.
Oklafan extends its condolences to the family and friends of Mae Young who passed away on January 14th at the age of 90. Young was originally from Sand Springs, OK and graduated from Sand Springs High School where she also wrestled on the boys wrestling team. She became a professional wrestler after challenging Women's Champion Mildred Burke at a show in Tulsa. She was told by the promoter that she couldn't step in to the ring with the champion, but the next day, Burke and Elvira Snodgrass were brought to Young's high school and Young pinned both of them shoot-style in a matter of seconds. Despite boasting a career that spanned 9 decades, Young did not make her WWF debut until 1999. She is well remembered for being one of the toughest women in professional wrestling as she took a powerbomb through a table from Bubba Ray Dudley when she was in her mid-70s. She is also notorious for being involved in a storyline where she and Mark Henry had sex and she ended up giving birth to a plastic hand (again, in her mid-70s). Young had only 2 documented appearances in Oklahoma, both for TSW: A victory over Barbara Galento on May 25, 1969 in Tulsa and a loss to Jessica Rogers on December 5, 1969 in Oklahoma City. She was inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2004 and the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008.
Funeral information for Mae Young was announced. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm at Dunbar Funeral Home in Columbia, SC. Funeral services are Wednesday at 2pm at Dunbar Funeral Home.
Tributes for the great Mae Young started pouring in on Twitter as soon as WWE.COM made the official announcement that the Hall of Famer had passed away. "There will never be another Mae Young," said WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon in a message on WWE.COM. "Her longevity in sports entertainment may never be matched, and I will forever be grateful for all of her contributions to the industry. On behalf of WWE, I extend our sincerest condolences to her family and friends." Vince also posted a photo of him hugging Young during her last birthday with a message on Twitter saying, ?Thanks for the memories Mae. We loved you.? McMahon?s daughter Stephanie, who Young always said she want to wrestle when she hits 100 also wrote a message of condolences. ?A true pioneer and legend
has passed tonight. Long live the memory of my friend and @WWE Hall of Famer.? Triple H, who along with Vince McMahon presented Young a replica Divas title for her birthday last year wrote, ?Thank you for your example to my girls on how to get all you want out of life!? The Rock, who shared a kiss on the lips with Young during an episode of RAW also called her a pioneer. ?She's a wrestling pioneer. I truly had deep affection & respect for "Aunty Mae" Young. RIP.? Rock attached a photo of him hugging Mae with his message. Mark Henry is probably best known for his angle with Young, where the two had a ?baby hand? in one of the most outrageous and funny angles during the Attitude Era. ?Johnnie Mae as I knew her was part of my wrestling family. She will be missed as much a anyone I've ever known! Lots of people are calling Mae a diva. She was a WRESTLER an a damn good one. Wow I'm still in shock, what a kick in the stones,? he wrote. Fellow Hall of Famer Jim Ross called her an inspiration to all in his tweet. ?The legendary Johnnie Mae Young has passed. The Oklahoman lead an amazing life. Her mental/physical toughness is an inspiration to all. RIP? Several other current and former WWE Superstars and Divas also praised Young in their tweets, showing the love and respect they had to their friend.
WWE posted a tribute video on Mae Young's career on Twitter with the post of ""There's been only one Mae Young, and there will be only one ever!" - Pat Patterson WATCH: http://trib.al/HOoVn2C #ThankYouMae"
WWE also ran a video at the beginning of last night's RAW to remember Mae Young. Bully Ray posted on Twitter "Once again, HONORED to be included in the Mae Young tribute video tonight on #RAW. So much respect for her and proud to be in same ring."
Greg Oliver of SLAM! Wrestling wrote a story entitled "Mae Young, 1923-2014: 'That's my life, the wrestling world'" which you can read by clicking here.
Among the numerous tweets about the late Mae Young yesterday was this gem from Jim Mitchell, which pretty much sums her up the best: "Just got the news about the passing of women's wrestling legend, The Great Mae Young. I will never forget taking the late Chris Kanyon to Fabulous Moolah's training compound on a weekly basis in his early days and watching Mae Young repeatedly beat, kick, and stomp him into submission, while ripping the hair out of his head and smoking a big stogie without even dropping an ash. She was in her seventies then. Mae was one tough broad and a real character. The last of a breed. Rest In Peace."
Others in the pro wrestling world paid tribute to Mae Young:
Natalya: "I'll always remember Mae Young. We shared wonderful memories of my grandfather. She made me want to fight. There was no one like her."
MVP: "Every time I saw Mae Young, EVERY TIME, she would greet me with a BIG smile & hug & then say "Now what was your name again?" & laugh! RIP"
Mickie James: "A fighter until the very end! Forever in our hearts, memories, & fighting spirit! A true HOF legend! #RIPMaeYoung"
Todd Grisham: "Rest in Peace Mae Young. One of the greatest female wrestlers ever. She was always very nice to me and was forever smiling."
