JR's Blog: JR's UK Tour Update, Sting, A Favorite Tag Team Rivalry, UFC 162, ESPN.com project, WWEshop.com sells JR's!!
Posted: Jul 6th 2013 By: CMBurnham
Greetings all and hopefully everyone is enjoy the usually hot month of July. Great time for outdoor grilling using JR's BBQ sauces and condiments from http://www.wweshop.com. With that said, let's get started with lots of random GRILLING.....
My 1st ever Spoken Word Tour of the UK is August 24-27 and with VIP tickets that get you a private meet and greet along with photo and autograph ops and are sold out except for the Cardiff show and they have only a few left. Regular seats remain for all the shows in Cardiff, London (less than 6 remain in total) Manchester and Glasgow. For Ticket info you can easily log onto http://www.psievents.eventbrite.com/.
Getting the opportunity to play the world famous, Comedy Store in Manchester on Monday August 26 is a bucket list type venue for me. I hope that we fill it up well in advance.
http://www.americansoda.co.uk will be at each of our shows selling JR's BBQ Sauces. Chipotle Ketchup and Main Event Mustard.
We fully expect all four dates to be sold out before I leave the States for these four, first ever events.
These shows will last over two hours and no questions are off limits during the Q&A portion of the presentation. I will also take the audience on a journey from the Oklahoma farm that I grew up on to accidently entering the biz via the proverbial backdoor, navigating the territory years for little to no money, discovering my 'calling' and continuing on through the Watts, Crockett, Turner and McMahon years. There are distinct messages in every turn in my personal 'road' that I think can serve all that attend well.
Just received an advance copy of the Legends of Mid South DVD, three disc set for my review. This long awaited collection will be released September 10 in the USA and about a week later in the UK as I understand it. I had the chapters and the full match lineup in a blog here on the site a couple of weeks ago but apparently my blogs are not widely read as the IWC is just now printing the list and crediting others for providing it. Drat...thought I had a scoop.
Excited to attend the annual festivities associated with the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Waterloo, Iowa on July 12-13. You can be a part of it to by calling 319-233-0745. It's a great event for fans to attend as it's causal and fan friendly. Plus, there will be an indy show on Friday night July 12 that Gerald Brisco and I will be observing for WWE. The meet and greet fan fest is Saturday at 1 at the Dan Gable Museum. Granted, Waterloo isn't easy to get to for many but it's like the Brisco Brothers Body Shop, worth the drive. Ticket info can also be obtained via emailing dgmstaff@nwhof.org.
I spoke with Bill Watts a day or so ago and he's not going to be able to travel to Waterloo due to lingering back issues that flared up after his trip to Amsterdam, N.Y. recently. The trip from Cowboy's Florida, panhandle home to Waterloo is three flights with two of those being small planes that do not accommodate a near 300 pounder with a bad back very well. .
Less than a week away from the July 11 grand opening of the new, WWE Performance Center in Winter Park, Florida. Invitations have been extended to many and I'm expecting this to be a huge event/turnout celebrating a milestone day in WWE. If we are able to consistently bring in charismatic, world class athletes into this facility the future of WWE will be even brighter.
Business will pick up for everyone remotely associated with the Developmental arm of WWE. The stakes in the game will be raised considerably in a matter of days in my opinion.
Big weekend in Vegas with UFC 162 in town plus the UFC Fan Expo activities. I'm going to try and attend this event some day.
I don't expect Anderson Silva to lose Saturday night but many 'experts' apparently do. At the end of the day, and this may be hard to fathom for some, but Silva losing would, over the long haul, be good for UFC business. A new star, Chris Weidman, wold be 'born' and a rematch would create another main event, PPV attraction. No one is unbeatable especially when they fight utilizing four ounce gloves inside an inanimate, eight sided, steel structure.
UFC 162, to the die hard's likely isn't a one match PPV, but to many novice fans it is. I am a Frankie Edgar fan and the Gracie name on a MMA PPV always adds some intrigue.
Great memories of one of my all time favorite tag team rivalries as on this date in 1992 Dr Death and Terry Gordy beat the Steiner Brothers in the Omni in Atlanta to win the World Tag Titles. I loved both these teams and personally feel that all four men are WWE HOF worthy without question. These matches weren't for the weak of heart and were right out of Idaho as all four men had respect for each other and were motivated to 'one up' the other.
My Twitter, @JRsBBQ, timeline is being hammered with the latest Sting rumors of him coming to WWE at some point in the future. Are these rumors of any significant difference than the basic, same ones that we've been hearing since WCW closed their doors or every time Sting's contract nears it's end? As best that I know, Sting is very happy where he is currently working and has no plans to launch a WWE in ring career at the age of 54. I've known Sting since day one and have immense respect for the man and do feel that he will be a WWE HOFer some day. There's some cool stuff on the Mid South DVD with Sting and his tag team partner Rock aka Ultimate Warrior in their Blade Runner incarnation.
I cannot predict the future but these daily, Sting-to-WWE rumors are merely internet dribble and are unfounded although they always seem to make for interesting fan chatter. Obviously, something as simple as Sting appearing in a WWE promo last week in the build to the WWE vs. World Title match featuring Cena vs. Del Rio likely fueled this fire, too.
The project that I worked on with ESPN.com on OU football will be published this coming Tuesday at espn.com. Five of our all had a fantasy draft to comprise an offense and a defense including specialists of former Sooners. There were actually two men drafted that had distinguished, pro wrestling careers.
Check out the poll that's ongoing now at http://www.awfulannoucing.com as one of my old calls is in the competition.
The MITB PPV apparently seems to largely be about the WWE Title MITB Ladder match but don't sleep on the other MITB bout featuring the World Title. Competition creates some unique opportunities and I'd guess that the WHC MITB match goes on earlier than the other MITB bout which might give the first one an advantage.
Q&A's updated elsewhere here on the site. Send me your questions there. Ask what you want. If they are profane or redundant I can always delete them.
Love for you to follow me on Twitter @JRsBBQ as I tweet on a variety of topics.
