News:
Most of the comedy on TNA shows comes from Dutch Mantel, who handles the Eric Young and Kevin Nash material, as well as the Abyss storyline, while Vince Russo's main projects are Ron Killings, The Voodoo Kim Mafia, and Christy Hemme. A lot of the X Division guys are unhappy with Mantel about the Nash segments, feeling they benefit nobody but Nash. Mantel feels they should get more comedy onto the show and at the moment there is nobody on the booking committee who is a big proponent of the X Division.
A. J. Styles and Rhino were very concerned about the Elevation X match. The width of the platform on the X shaped scaffold was only 20 inches and the structure was very unstable.
Ron Simmons and A. J. Styles were backstage at the United Wrestling Federation show in Gainesville, GA on March 2nd. Simmons was visiting Kishi. Styles is actually a Gainesville native. The UWF date was originally booked with the idea of building it around his appearance. When NWA-TNA and the UWF parted ways late last year (at least in terms of the UWF running TNA-branded events), Styles was removed from the booking by TNA. Currently, TNA sets a limit of six talents per event promoted by Hermie Sadler. The loss of Styles (who was never advertised, but would have been the centerpiece of the show) was believed to have hurt the crowd in the Gainesville market. TNA has intentions of running the market down the line and wanted to save Styles for when they do.
TNA hasn't been using Shane Douglas since several weeks back when he fell asleep backstage right before a taping started.
Bill Goldberg this past week said that he's accepted the fact that with his age, he will never shoot fight, but he is open to wrestling again for TNA specifically, but only if they give him the right offer.
Speaking of Goldberg, he served on Greg Biffle's pit crew on Sunday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the UAW Daimler-Chrysler 400. He also promoted his new show Bull Run, which debuts on 3/13 at 10 p.m. on Spike. A brief mention of Goldberg and his new show is in the current issue of Sports Illustrated.
Shoptna.com has just put up a brand new autograph special. You get the brand new Best of A. J. Styles Volume 2 DVD a month before hits stores plus it is autographed by Styles. 8x10 autographs of Rhino, A. J. Styles, Christian Cage and Samoa Joe. Plus volumes 1 and 2 of The Best of the X Division DVDs. Only 300 of these are being sold and the entire package is only $59.99.
The idea of an ECW authority figure was recently suggested, and believe it or not, Paul Heyman's name was mentioned by Dusty Rhodes, but it wasn't even considered by Vince McMahon. The suggestion had also been made to send Heyman back to Ohio Valley Wrestling, but that was also turned down.
The current edition of MAD magazine has a few pictures of Jerry Lawler in it visiting the MAD offices.
Dusty Rhodes has successfully lobbied for WWE to add tag team titles to ECW. New belts have been ordered and are expected to be ready by the end of the month. There was much opposition to this because many feel that the company already has enough championship belts. Rhodes pushed Vince McMahon hard, saying that ECW is too one-dimensional and shallow when it comes to talent. The tag team titles would give more purpose to different people on the show and allow more variety in booking. As far as talent is concerned, La R?sistance (Rene Dupree and Sylvan) were the first team brought over. However, their profiles were recently removed from ECW.com due to the suspension of Rene Dupree and Sylvain is now back on Smackdown. WWE also plans on calling Vito back up to the main roster so that he could go back to his old gimmick; teaming with Little Guido Maritato to reform the FBI. Vito won't be wearing a dress when he returns. Rhodes is also pushing for Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch to move over to ECW after WrestleMania. There are no plans at the moment as far as a time or place to crown the new champions is concerned.
On ESPN College Gamenight, during the North Carolina vs. Boston College ACC Semifinal highlights, the commentators made a Mankind reference in regards to Taylor Hansbrough's facemask saying: "From Parts Unknown, off the top rope.." "...somewhere, Mick Foley would be proud."
Backstage, people are comparing Batista to the Ultimate Warrior. He is resented because of his lack of love for the business and his not paying enough dues. However, HHH is still a big supporter of Batista because he made Batista a star.
Hillbilly Jim announced on his Sirius satellite radio show "Moonshine Matinee" that WWE will induct Jim Ross into their Hall of Fame at Wrestlemania 23 next month.
Despite not having been on RAW for over a year, Beth Phoenix's entrance video is still up on WWE.com
There is talk that WWE might make Brad Armstrong a road agent.
During USA Network's telecast of WWE RAW on March 5th, a commercial ran with Wayne Berman, a WWE Fan and a dentist. Missy Hyatt and Nicole Bass were guests at the Berman home for his 30 seconds of fame.
Jimmy Hart is trying to put together a Jerry Lawler vs. Hulk Hogan match in Memphis, TN
Kishi was working as the head booker for the Nu-Wrestling Evolution promotion in Italy, but Vampiro convinced the powers that be to give him the reigns, with the idea that Vampiro (with Wrestling Society X) could get guys exposure on MTV worldwide
Chris Harrington has a podcast at
www.d101.blastpodcast.com/indeedwrestling/15285_1173274786.mp3 covering wrestling related movies including "Mr. Universe", "I Like to Hurt People", "The Wrestler", "No Holds Barred", and the new Mil Mascaras movie.
The Ultimate Warrior posted ring worn gear on eBay last week. The actual duster he wore to the ring at Wrestlemania XII for his match with Triple H was posted received 24 bids with the highest bid reaching $1,550 but the reserve was not met and therefore the duster was not sold.
CORRECTION:
