WWE News: Ric Flair's Royal Rumble Status Revealed
Posted: Jan 8th 2013 By: mikeiles
As we all know, the Royal Rumble is historically used as a vehicle for returning stars.
In the past, we have witnessed monumental returns from Triple H, John Cena, Booker T, and Curt Hennig. Many times these returns are comebacks from injuries. Although, there have also been a number of former WWE stars that have used the Rumble as a way back into the company.
The most recent example of this was in 2011, when fans witnessed the returns of both Diesel, aka Kevin Nash, and Booker T. Unfortunately for Nash, his comeback was not well received by many fans.
Meanwhile, Booker T managed to parlay his return into a job as a commentator for SmackDown, and now serves as GM for the brand.
Now, fans have been left to wonder if Ric Flair's one-off appearance at The Slammy Awards will lead to a spot at the Rumble.
According to F4WOnline.com (via WrestlingInc.com), "Ric Flair isn't expected to be back on WWE TV until after the Royal Rumble". This may sound like a tough break for fans of the two-time WWE Hall of Famer, but let's face it, we are talking about a guy in his 60's desperately attempting to hold onto the past.
Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Flair. I just wish he would come to terms with who he is now and move on. Ultimately, we all know he would be an amazing manager for some talented stars with awful mic skills.
However, it doesn't appear that "The Nature Boy" is looking to stop wrestling any time soon. In fact, according to WrestlingInc.com, he is currently booked to team with The Great Muta in Japan on January 26th, which is just one day prior to the Royal Rumble.
In the end, who knows if Flair will come back to the WWE on a regular basis?
Ultimately, as far as the WWE is concerned, he has been "retired" from their ring since 2008. So chances are he will remain that way and have to come to some sort of compromise with the company if he wants to return there.
