JR's Blog: OKC RAW..Slobber Knocker on NFL Network..JR in Poker Tourney..Lawler update..Q&A's Updated

Heres hoping everyone is having a great day no matter where you are. As my Grandpa would say, "I've been busier than a fruit merchant" this week traveling to Albany, New York and promoting the OKC Raw that is this Monday night. Here's some quick random thoughts...

Sure hoping for a good crowd in OKC this Monday Night at the Chesapeake Arena, home of the OKC Thunder, for Jim Ross Appreciation Night. Not wanting to hear 'crickets.' Tickets start at $15 and are still available at Ticketmaster outlets and the arena box office.

One can only imagine what surprises might lie in store for yours truly.

I'm playing in a Celebrity Poker Tournament this Sunday at the Lucky Star Casino in Concho, Oklahoma which is just west of OKC with Alicia Fox, Kendrick Perkins and Russell Westbrook of the Thunder along with other NBA stars and former OU football stars plus most of the local news anchors in the OKC Market.

The public is invited to attend and it is a great opportunity to get autographs, etc as the Texas Hold Em competition begins at 1 p.m...

One of my Tweets from @JRsBBQ made the ABC world news this past week when speaking of the NFL officials strike.

Seems as if Slobber Knocker is a word after all. One of my oldest catch phrases is in the Urban Dictionary and was used multiple times Thursday night on the Cleveland-Baltimore NFL game.

Of course one of the NFL broadcasters who works in the studio, I think, had to tweet that he didn't watch wrestling because it wasn't "intelligent" enough for him. Typical, elitist attitude from a 'main stream' sports guy. He feels that wrestling is a program for children. @AndrewSiciliano has the right to his opinion even though I don't agree with it.

Not pleased with my Sooners home loss last week in their Big 12 opener losing by 5 to K-State. #BoomerSooner has ample work to do as their basic, fundamental mistakes (turnovers) cost them the game against the Wildcats. Football is a simple game that still and always will revolve around blocking and tackling not withstanding playing physical and aggressively. I'm not jumping off the Sooner Schooner no matter what happens but I am realistic enough to know that this is going to be an especially challenging season for OU in the competitive and balanced Big 12.

@americansoda in England and who ships regularly and conveniently through most of Europe will son be launching JR's bottled products. We expect this to occur this month and hope that our friends in that part of the world take advantage of the opportunity to sample our family brand of products.

WWE holding a tryout camp down in Tampa starting today (Friday) that I'm missing due to obligations here in OKC regarding RAW. I'm anxious to hear if there will be any viable prospects coming out of this multiple day camp. I hope that all prospects came to camp in great, cardio shape.

How to build a new WWE mega star? It's obviously not easy and takes a combined effort from many areas but getting said talent on a roll is a significant part of the process. Taking a few chances along the way is usually necessary as does steering the course with the earmarked talent who must be motivated, smart, and hard working. Ironically, some talents don't want the responsibility that comes with being one of the "top talents" as it isn't an easy assignment and only gets more challenging the more popular the talent becomes.

Plus, the talent has to have the elusive "it" factor which cannot be manufactured in my opinion.

The best market research that WWE has are the paying customers, IE fans, WWE Universe, etc. The fanbase is much more discerning in today's world thanks to all the information flow that's available and said fans are usually on the money when it comes to something that they like and things that they don't like. One just has to be careful not to confuse defiant/trendy reactions to those that fit the category of "I despise this and I want it to go away" angst.

Happy to say that @Jerry Lawler is feeling better each day. We communicated via text message during the Browns loss to the Ravens Thursday night. Jerry actually is making an appearance at an event near Memphis but obviously is not wrestling or being involved in any physicality. Apparently it is an autograph engagement of some sort. I've not heard a definitive return date for Jerry to come back to Raw commentary and the travel that goes with it. I suspect it will still be a while before his doctor's clear him for that job and all that goes with it.

@MichaelCole has so many more responsibilities as the lead announcer on Raw than I ever did. All the social media info, etc wasn't around when King and I were in our heyday. Michael stays highly organized with a multitude of information that he is obligated to distribute during any given Monday night broadcast.

Michael's role now on Raw and mine back in the day, even though we were both 'lead announcers,' are drastically different. Unless one does prep work with Cole, you just doesn't know how good a job he does especially with SO much on his plate.
