WWE News: Beth Phoenix Storyline Leading to More Injury Angles in the Future?
Posted: Apr 26th 2012 By: mikeiles
Beth Phoenix suffered a painful leg injury on this week?s episode of Monday Night Raw.
Or did she?
While many believed the injury to be legitimate, WrestlingNewsWorld.com reports that the injury was a work and that Beth is not actually injured.
Although it may come as a surprise that the WWE would book an injury angle to one of its top Divas, this will reportedly be the start of a new trend in the WWE.
From F4Wonline.com (via WrestleNewz.com):
As seen on Monday night, WWE did an injury angle with Beth Phoenix that appeared to be legit. Expect to see more of this as WWE is trying to do more ?plausible? injuries where they initially don?t reveal that it?s a work and report it on their website like they would a real injury. The idea is for the talents to use Facebook and Twitter to help get the injuries over.
Well, that?s, um, interesting.
Although I?m not crazy about the WWE putting the Divas Championship on Nikki Bella, having Beth work an injury could pay off in the long run if it leads to some sort of interesting storyline down the road.
Still, I?d prefer not to see worked injuries happen so frequently that they become overdone.
I just don?t see the long-term benefit of consistently having wrestlers faking injuries, unless it?s going to really add to a storyline like it did with Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho back in 2008.
I mean, if that?s not going to happen, why take someone off of TV when it really isn?t necessary?
The WWE has been plagued with a number of injuries over the last year or so, so I would think that they want as many stars on TV as they can possibly have, considering that guys like Sin Cara, Wade Barrett and Rey Mysterio are already sitting on the sidelines.
Like I said, I?m fine with Beth?s injury angle and other future injury angles.
All I ask is to make sure that they serve a storyline purpose and aren?t overdone.
