The Kingpin remembers "Pimptight" Kevin Lovejones

I was very saddened to hear about the passing of "Pimptight" Kevin Lovejones. I worked several shows with him in Arkansas for Mid-States Wrestling. His character was that of the ultimate frat boy. He was in a faction managed by Stephen E, who by the way is like The Kingpin character. I have stolen a lot of mannerisms and quotes from Stephen. Thanks buddy!
Anyway, Stephen E managed the faction and it consisted of the Heavyweight Champion Michael Barry and Pimptight. Eventually Pimptight broke away from Stephen and Michael Barry and turned babyface. I remember when he returned to Mid-States and came out to be interviewed. He got right to the point and aired some of his personal problems right there on camera and to the live crowd. He had spent some time in the local jail on some domestic complaints and was coming clean on everything. It was one of the first interviews I had ever done with a wrestler that basically pulled back the curtain on his personal life.
Later in the show, I interviewed Stephen E and he began talking about Pimptight's personal issues as well. Stephen runs a pawn shop and he said that Pimptight had called him about pawning his wedding rings because he needed the money. I was a little shocked until I found out later that Pimptight had given the green light for that. Again, I had never encountered a wrestler willing to show the world his personal life and personal problems. I also remember Stephen E saying "Pimptight Kevin Lovejones" 22 times during his tirade.
So that started a feud between Pimptight and Michael Barry over the Heavyweight Title. The night Pimptight won the title he was grinning ear to ear. I spent the night in Harrison that night and I remember talking to Pimptight the next morning on the phone. He said "Mike Iles, I am laying here in bed in a hotel with the Heavyweight Title next to me. I am hurting in my ribs and probably urinating blood. But it is the best feeling in the world because I am a champion." Sure we all know its a work but he was so happy to be champion.
Pimptight lost the title to Jason Jones in a Barbed Wire Match a few months later. I actually have that Barbed Wire Match on DVD. I got it for Christmas one year from Jason Jones. Pimptight bounced in and out of Mid-States after that. He came back once and the frat boy image was gone replaced by a tough no nonsense biker type. I think that gimmick was little closer to the real life Kevin Lovejoy (Pimptight's real name).
Unfortunately I hadn't seen Pimptight in probably two years but like I said his passing saddened me. We weren't real close friends but some of my closest friends in wrestling were his closest friends in wrestling. The past year has been tough for the Mid-States Wrestling family, first with Adrian Steel passing and now Pimptight.
Rest In Peace Pimptight.
