JR's Blog: FREE Main Event Mustard Offer Ends Tonite..Random Thoughts from Emails and Twitter @JRsBBQ
Posted: Jan 24th 2011 By: CMBurnham
What a NFL Sunday! Arguably the best NFL weekend of the year so let's kick this thing off...
Several folks have taken advantage of our FREE Main Event Mustard offer that ends tonight at 12 am central time. If you make a purchase of $13.88 or more you get a FREE bottle of our new, delicious Main Event Mustard which is a rich, honey mustard with a hint of Jalape?o. Any order of $13.88 or more will get you one FREE 12 oz plastic, squeeze bottle of our newest product. Again, this offer ends tonight at midnight Oklahoma (central) time.
Emailer...Why doesn't WWE utilize old, WCW themed PPV's? I assume just to be more original or contemporary. The titles of the PPV's seem to be being tweaked all the time but no matter the name of the event it is still and always will be the 'attraction' that sells PPV's not the title of the event.
I do expect to see ALL the WCW PPV's and Clash of Champions events utilized when WWE launches their own network down the road. You might even see some of them monetized via DVD releases at some point in time.
Emailer...I have ZERO interest in seeing weekly, 'Legends' matches on WWE or anyone else's TV. You might get away with it a few times and catch some lightning in a bottle but over the long haul there simply aren't enough big name vets that can still deliver as we all want to remember them when they were in their prime.
I do agree that Jerry Lawler is an exception to that aforementioned statement as King is today one of the best small handful of talents in all the biz and the reason is that Jerry understands the biz and has mastered crowd/ ring psychology. Bottom line is that King knows how to tell a story in the ring without doing silly, overused, gratuitous acrobatics.
Tweeter follower @JRsBBQ is upset that the Uso's aren't more prominent in the tag team scene in WWE. Where, might I ask, in the entire biz are tag teams utilized and drawing big houses and making the talents of those teams big money? I am not an opponent of tag team wrestling, far from it, but the truth is that tag team wrestling today is on the back burner, unfortunately. I can see that trend changing which is a good thing. What was once old in the biz will obviously be new again at some point in time.
Someone suggested that WWE Superstars be utilized to feature WWE's younger talents. I thought that was usually the case. The talents who don't get much time on Raw or Smackdown often time end up on WGN America's Superstars broadcast. These are the times when talents really need to elevate their game, maximize their minutes and not look at wrestling on Superstars as be exiled or some form of 'punishment.' These are the moments that game day players go out and turn heads and make positive impressions. It's like playing on special teams for a NFL team or being the 8th or 9th man on a NBA roster...always maximize one's minutes and opportunities.
Twitter @JRsBBQ...Yes I truly believe that many old school fans will love the new, WWE All Stars Video game. The roster of playable wrestlers from yesterday and today is big time. I'm thrilled that WWE decided to utilize the team of JR and the King for this game as well. I'm optimistic that if it does well that we might get to do a second version somewhere down the road. The game is going to be released March 29 while we are all in Atlanta for WM27. THQ has plans for a major event at WWE Fan AXXESS on Friday night of WM27 weeks which is the night before the WWE HOF Induction Ceremony.
Emailer...there is zero chance at this time that I will be broadcasting the Royal Rumble match this year and that matter has never been discussed for the record. As a matter of fact, I'm going to watch the Rumble at home as I'm not traveling to Boston later this month. I'll spend my PPV bucks on the Royal Rumble just like many fans.
Emailer...the biggest most important issue for any wrestling/sports entertainment company is the development of new stars which in turn makes said companies developmental programs the most important department that they manage, IMO. I feel that WWE's Developmental Program will continue to evolve in the future as preparing new, talented, athletic men and women for prime time TV is a must.
Twitter @JRsBBQ...Who's the best wrestler to NEVER hold the WWE Title? That's a very subjective question....lots of men fit the bill...but if I were making a list and checking it twice I know that Roddy Piper, Paul Orndorff, Ricky Steamboat and Jake Roberts would likely find their way on it.
Emailer...Most athletic, big man I ever called a match for? Another subjective question but Big Van Vader likely would be #1. Former Colorado Buffalo football center could moonsault at 400 pounds. One Man Gang in UWF was also really, really good for a super heavyweight. Big Bubba Rogers aka Big Bossman was also special. Bib Bubba's UWF Title bout in OKC vs Dr Death Steve Williams is one of my fondest memories.
Emailer...I have less than ZERO interest in becoming former Sooner Jack Swaggers ringside manager. I'm not looking to travel full time nor do I know if WWE wants Swagger to even have a manager. I'm not sure if Swagger needs a manager but if it's the proper person then Swagger would seemingly standout that much more. Swagger needs to simply be more Lesnar and Angle-like and commence to imposing his physical will on all that he competes with in a WWE ring. Perhaps he's too nice and needs to become more of a nasty SOB.
Twitter @JRsBBQ...Nope... not expected to be refereeing many matches going forward. Nothing is scheduled. However, Michael Cole is doing some refereeing I'm told in non televised, main events at TV tapings.
Emailer...Getting lots of emails re: a rumor of Vince McMahon thinking of buying the Newcastle United football club in the United Kingdom. I have no knowledge of this matter whatsoever but my gut tells me it's likely just a rumor. Again, I don't know.
I will doing several appearances at WWE Fan AXXESS during WM27 week. Will keep you posted.
When I mentioned that adding 10 people to the Rumble would earn 10 folks more of a Rumble pay day than them sitting on the sidelines and enjoying Royal Rumble catering in Boston. All the competitors that attend the Rumble will earn something but those that contribute the most, namely appear on the PPV in varying roles will earn more money than those that simply show up, have some food, are unused and watch the show from the back.
Still hanging my hat with the Packers and the Steelers today. I really think that both NFL Conference Title games are going to be close and a turnover or a big play here or there could tip the scales in one team's favor. I actually don't 'hate' any of the teams playing today. I do think that an AFC team will win the Super Bowl and I will be cheering for either the Steelers or the Jets for Super Bowl 45. If the Steelers make it, we hope to attend live as it's an easy car trip to Cowboys Stadium in Arlington from Norman. (Boy, how stupid were Dallas politicos to allow 'Dallas' Cowboy Stadium to be erected in another city?)
Emailer..Yes I fully expect to see the Undertaker at WM27. There are few men walking the face of the earth that are mentally or physically tougher than Undertaker and I can't see him missing the opportunity to go 19-0 in the Georgia Dome. 'The Streak' has become a vital part of every Wrestlemania promotion. To me, the mega event wouldn't be the same without the 'Conscience of WWE.'
Again, the FREE Main Event Mustard offer definitely ends tonight at midnight central time which is 1 am eastern and 10 pm pacific to those that have issues telling time. Thanks to those that have placed orders already and to those that will be doing so later today. We appreciate the support.
Boomer Sooner!
