Thoughts on the recent drug related deaths in Pro Wrestling
Posted: Jun 25th 2010 By: mikeiles
Buzz Sawyer, Miss Elizabeth, Bam Bam Bigelow, Bobby Duncam Jr, Rhonda Singh, Crash Holly, Sherri Martel, Brian Adams, Andrew Martin, Chris Kanyon, Umaga (plus countless other heart attacks drug related) and now you can add Trent Acid to the list of wrestling talent that has passed away 40-50yrs before their time due to drugs.
I have a question to everyone of the boys and girls in this business. When the hell are you going to wake up? When are you going to look at all of your friends dying in front of your eyes and lose the bullshit mentality "it won't happen to me?". Blaming the wrestling business is NOT an excuse to snort coke, pop pills and shoot heroin!! I've had 5 major surgeries and countless injuries and refuse outright REFUSE to take a painkiller solely off of the fact that they're addictive and will ultimately lead to your demise.
Why can't everyone take a look at one of your good friends in this business who has passed away (I'm sure you have at least one which sickens me to say) and use that as an example?
Every six months or so the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) will send me a letter offering there help in sending me to rehab If I need it (just as they do with all there current and past talent) or If I know of anyone who does need it. The only problem with that is I can unfortunately name dozens of people within the business who needs it but I know damn sure they would refuse it.
I'm not going to name drop but I have been asked countless times over the last 10 years by respected well known talent If I have or can get them coke to pills and everything in between. Its truly absolutely disgusting and disheartening to see people you idolized growing up resort to being a glorified crackhead. And if you think of the amount of money some of them make compared to the amount of drugs they use you understand why they're completely dead broke (Chyna is a prime example, ditto Scott Hall).
The one thing that has bothered me about the Trent Acid passing is this.. After Jac Sabboth's March show (where Trent was asked to leave the building due to his condition) I took it upon myself to speak to Johnny Kashmere (for the first time ever in 10yrs) and my first words to him and I kid you not were "Trent's going to die.".
And as I think about it now only 3months later it really blows my mind. I remember telling Johnny how Trent needs to go back to jail after seeing him in that kind of condition and worried for his own safety. And as HORRIBLE as this sounds I was actually happy when I heard he was going away for a little bit because at least there I knew he would be OK (as absolutely psychotic as that sounds).
After speaking with Johnny in length that day in March it really opened my eyes to see how much he really did try to help Trent. Kashmere was not only a good friend he was a TRUE friend. I really wish a lot of people would make HALF the attempt Kashmere made for Trent to their friends who currently have some "problems" I guarantee you the death toll will drop.
In closing everyone think of it, I mean really just think of it... Life is so brutally short as it is and with cancer being the #1 killer in this world and with car accidents on the rise every year, It's hard enough to AVOID death and make it to a nice elderly age why do you feel the need to roll the dice for NO REASON with your own life. With every pill that goes down your throat or powder that goes up your nose you literally are playing Russian roulette whether you admit it or not.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone but I really think this needed to be said.
Sincerely,
Kevin Matthew McDonald
